In your opinion: What is god?
1) is God a 'person', who started a game of chess that plays itself, and is just watching. (that's a metaphor people, don't take it too seriously)
2) is God the Random variable in our world, with no conciouness. Is god the thing that would explain why things we don't understand, happen the way they do? The random aggregate of all unexplained factors in the world summed up.
IMO, I like option 2). It makes much more sense to me, than God actually being like the Wizard of Oz. It also means that the more we learn about the universe, and how it works, the closer we become to god.
I prefer to think of God as everything in Nature(regional, continental, global, galactic, universal etc) we do not yet understand.
why this thread? I don't know. Everytime I read a religious thread on here, I read: God does this, and God does that. But I don't think God does anything, not with a consious thought atleast. It is just nature doing what it does.
take genesis for example: Adam and Eve, I don't think so. But I can believe in a chain of random events (that one can call god) that lead to the first amino acids forming the first protein bubbles in a puddle of goo zillions of years ago, in essence, creating the first adam and eve (they just weren't people, but bubbles of protein in a very inhospitable world).
debate (and anywhere where I state an opinion, but didn't put an IMO, put it in there yourself).
