Aliens definately for me, though Empire and T2 were superb as well.

The Godfather Part II
Empire Strikes Back
Terminator 2
Aliens
Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan.

Oh, and TDK I guess.

TDK
Star Trek II:Wrath of Khan
Toy Story 2
The Lost World: Jurassic Park

There are some great contenders on that list, but it would have to be Empire. That moment of "I am your father", will never be repeated in movie history....unless you get rid of the Internet.

My favorites and in no order at all, as I love them all:

Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Predator 2
Aliens
Alien 3
The Empire Strikes Back
Return Of The Jedi
Ghostbusters II
The Dark Knight
Batman Returns
Iron Man 2
Spider-Man 2
Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom
Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade
Die Hard 2
Die Hard With a Vengeance
Phantasm II
Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn
Army Of Darkness
Saw II
Saw VI
Friday The 13th Part 2
Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter
Friday The 13th Part VI: Jason Lives
Friday The 13th Part VII: The New Blood
A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors
New Nightmare
Halloween II (1981)
Back To The Future Part II
Tremors II: Aftershocks
Child's Play 2
Gremlins 2: The New Batch
U.S. Marshals
The Lost World: Jurassic Park
Jaws 2
RoboCop 2

glad spidey 2 got a vote. a movie that tops the original in every way

The Dark Knight is ahead of Godfather 2, The Empire Strikes Back, and T2? Somebody please shoot me...

I was looking at it in terms of how superior it was to BB. I don't feel ESB is superior at all to ANH, and I don't think GF II or T2 are as superior to the originals as TDK was to BB. That's also why the winner to me is Bride of Frankenstein, as the original Frankenstein was great but Bride is one of the greatest genre movies ever made.

No...can someone really shoot this guy. Its an opinion on a SUPERHERO message board...are you really that surprised?

For me its a close tie for a few:
Empire Strikes Back
Terminator 2
Aliens

Wrath of Kahn *

Aliens, the best sequel, and my fave movie of all time! It has action, romance, suspense, horror......covers many genres.

I voted Empire Strikes Back... it really expanded the Star Wars universe and added more characters like Yoda

There's a lot of great sequels. T2 , Aliens , The Dark Knight , Empires Strikes Back , Patlabor 2 , Innocence , Election II , A Better Tomorrow , Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom , Alien 3 , Evil Dead II , Godfather Part II , Kill Bill Vo.2 , Mad Max 2 , The Color of the Money , Superman II , Drunken Master 2 .

I voted TDK.

Well it wasn't very hard to be better than Batman Begins :funny: Other than Bruce Wayne's origin that movie was average with horrible hacked up, poorly framed action scenes.

And there's no way I can choose between Godfather II, ESB, or Aliens. Those are the very best. The rest of the sequels in the list fall quite a few notches below those three.

The fights may have been shot in a bad way, but that was not an average movie. It's a very tasteful, intelligent superhero movie.

What annoys me about Aliens is that the most interesting part of the movie is coasting on the tails of the original, and after that it's just another big, dumb action movie, it truly boggles my mind that people rank that movie so highly.

Intelligent in what way? After the origin it's a standard superhero movie. The guy becomes the hero and starts doing typical hero things. The villain shows up. monologues his whole plan, stupidly leaves the hero for dead (like we haven't seen that before) and the hero saves everyone in the end. There's nothing special about Batman Begins and the third act is beyond stupid. I think BB is looked at so highly because the Batman movies before it were so horrible. TDK really didn't have to do much to be better than that. And honestly, Heath Ledger carried TDK on his shoulders because the Joker was the only interesting character in the entire movie. Hell, even Batman bored the sh** out of me in TDK and he's the title character.

Ok, if you didn't think it takes inteligence to film the 'supernatural' presence of Batman and the machinations of his world the way Nolan did in the film, then that's fine.
But I have been reading the books since I was a way little tyke, and for me he truly captured that pov of the criminals. That's why a few not so great martial arts scenes do not matter much to me, what counted was the vibe and presence of Batman, both at the docks and Arkham Asylum.
His interrogation of the corrupt cop was awesome, the pure righteous fury of Batman on screen for the first time.
The imagery of Batman Year One captured on film....the great chase with the Tumbler....the tasteful imagery of the hallucinations induced by the Scarecrow fear gas, not to mention seeing Batman from the pov of the affected as a monstrous demon.

If you don't think it takes intelligence to adapt and create those types of images onto film, then you must be some kind of genius that does crossword puzzles while sitting on the toilet without looking at the questions or even the toilet. If so, I bow to your superior intelligence and as penance will give my lunch money to the students of mensa next time I see them so they can buy more toilets for their crossword puzzle experiments.

You seem to be focusing on the very last part of the movie for your critisicms, the finale, which I agree is the weakest part of the movie.
But, before that? when he is investigating etc...you seem to be expecting Batman to what in the movie? Join a brass band? go to McDonalds and run around it on rollerskates while reciting James Joyce and chewing on a bagette? lol, just what do you expect from a Batman film except him doing 'typical hero things'....it's all in the execution these movies, not the content so much, they are *superhero* movies, and this was a very well executed superhero movie, flawless? no, but far from average...average would be Fantastic Four imo.

How is Batman Begins a standard superhero movie? Its the movie that started the whole term "nolanize". It took a somewhat fantasy based story and made it seem plausible to exist in our real world. Maybe now its standard because many are trying to ape Nolan's vision of superheroes but back then it was really unique.

each to their own but I personally think aliens is one of the best sci-fi movies ever made.

It is a very well made movie, and I used to enjoy it a lot when I was younger.
but the thing is, as a sequel to the classic original, it annoys me, annoys me because it took a truly fantastic new movie monster and diminished it's effectiveness. In the original movie, it's not an action fest, it's a very smart horror movie with a very smart monster at the heart of it, it's very hard to kill.
In Aliens, they are far less scary and Cameron turns them essentially into cannon fodder, it just bugs me, lol, sorry.

The Dark Knight just barely beats out The Empire Strikes Back for me. Both are ridiculously awesome films.

I saw aliens before I saw alien, so the genie was already out of the bottle. I think that's why I prefer aliens because when I eventually got around to seeing alien it was one single alien. the acting is amazing though as is the set desgin.

Ah, i saw Alien when I was a little kid, it really scared the crap out of me back then, and has been a favourite ever since.
I do have Aliens on dvd, I used to watch it when it was on tv when i was wee and i think i must've had it on vhs too, because i saw that movie a lot when i was growing up.
But, i tried watching it recently for the first time in many years, and...I was really into it up until they got to the base and start going after the aliens, I just kind of switched off from the movie at that point and went online while it was playing.
edit: See, in aliens, I liked the characters because they were all played very naturally, and felt like real people in danger to me. I still like Ripley a lot and Bishop is interesting to me, but I don't care about any of those cartoonish marines, I was more convinced by the 'real people' of Alien and concerned about the danger they were in as a result.

If you think the Aliens in Aliens are not scary, then we have a different idea of fear. Granted, the suspense wasn't the same as in the first movie, but there were some noteworthy scenes where you jump, and can't help it.

When Burke puts his face next to the jar the face hugger is in, where Cpl Hicks climbs up and sees the Aliens using the pipes of the level above them to climb into the room....there are more, but those were the best ones.
