What Is The Right Religion?

As for Mary, why do catholics worship and pray to her, catholics/christians aren't supposed to do that. Mary was merely the vessel that gave birth to Christ, thats where her level of importance begins and stops, other than that she's pretty much insignificant to the cgristian faith.

They're not supposed to actually worship her, that's a idiosyncratic thing common to cultures where folk beliefs (which were often matriarchal, or at least less patriarchal) are still around more, like Hispanic and Polish people. They also tend to focus on saints a lot more than other Catholics.

And as far as just considering he important, a lot of the older churches do that, like the Orthodoxies and the Coptic Church, so it's a tradition thing in general too. It's Protestantism and other faiths that actively broke away that tend to deemphasize her.

As for the theological reason, aside from the immaculate conception thing, she also had a big role in his life. She and Joseph (who's also an important saint) raised him until he was how old, and Mary was around during his adult life too. She hung around with the apostles, and was there helping him at the crucifixion.

in my opinion, the correct religion (if you even end up choosing one) is one where:
no money EVER is spent
no building is required for worship
doesn't require a hatred of others for their belief(s) (or even looking down apon them)

i'm agnostic (leaning towards athiesm), though see no problem with people having a belief in a higher power.

That is word for word, exactly how I feel.

Of course, she was his mother but thats it, she's not vital or important, especially during his adult life. Jesus knew who he was from a very early age, his wisdom and knowledge kicked in when he was still a kid, technically he could have taken care of himself BUT as a mother Mary has an obligation to do right by her son.

Well he still needed to get to the age or 8 or 9 or whatever when he found out. Also He didn't instantly get knowledge and everything, it's the during the unaccounted-for years that he really came into being the Messiah. Being Christ didn't really kick in or anything.

Also, disregarding that, she was practically an apostle, so she is definitely important outside of being his mother. As important as many people in, say, Mexico consider her, maybe not, but she certainly did other things aside from birthing him.

Also, a lot of difference from Protestantism derives from extra-Biblical scriptures, so the two groups obviously wouldn't come to the same conclusions with different scripture.

No religion is the right religion.

No religion is the right religion.

Did you read the rest of the thread? Did you even look at any of it? Barring the fact this statement alone adds NOTHING to the thread, like 5 people have already said the same thing.

The only religion that is correct is the one that tells you the following:

"We'll be honest with ya. We made all this **** up during one hell of a bender, where vast amounts of alcohol, halluciongens of all kinds, and tons of grapefruit for vitamin C were consumed, and during our alcohol-drug induced haze, we had this amazing experience of oneness with the universe and everything. So that book you're holding is the stream-of-consciousness of people no different than yourself who are trying to make some good scratch.

At least we're not bull****ting ya."

Needless to say, there is no religion in existence on this planet that meets that requirement.

That's a religion I could get into.

For anyone who's interested in what the "great" Muhammed said about Jesus (from The Hadith):

The Prophet said, "On the Day of Resurrection the Believers will assemble and say, 'Let us ask somebody to intercede for us with our Lord.' … 'Go to Jesus, Allah's Slave, His Apostle and Allah's Word and a Spirit coming from Him.' Jesus will say, 'I am not fit for this undertaking, go to Muhammad the Slave of Allah whose past and future sins were forgiven by Allah.' So they will come to me and I will proceed till I will ask my Lord's Permission and I will be given permission."
