What made you happy today? - Part 1

Getting a workout in after slacking off for a week.

Getting prepared to send a script to my mentors at Universal this Friday. I have good feelings about this one. They're looking forward to it, everybody who has read it has liked it, and the concept behind it is intriguing everyone and I feel like I delivered what I promised in spades. So, here's to Friday.

I got my screenplay up to 90 pages and I like what I have a lot. I'm not sure what to do now but I'm happy.

Best suggestion I have if you're serious about pursuing it as a career is, if you're able to, intern at a development company and get in tight with everyone there. I've found that when you prove yourself to them they're looking to help in any way they can. From there things fall into place.

That's awesome congrats! I am also an aspiring filmmaker so that makes me happy whenever I get the chance to work on a film. Unfortuantely for me, I live in Virginia one of the WORST places to live if you want to purse film or television productions in the U.S in my opinion. We only have one film school here and very little film productions that happen in the area. I usally just help out on short films whenever I can, either doing grip work, or cinemtography, PA, or video editing etc. I have written a few short film scipts but haven't gotten around to getting them shot yet. My ultimate dream is to move to New York or LA and work with a film or television production company.

The biggest film that I worked on, happened this summer. Its a short film called " Habeas Corpus" starring Chad Coleman (from AMC's The Walking Dead and HBO's The Wire) Tim Reid ( Sister, Sister and That's 70's Show) and Jamie Hector ( HBO's The Wire). I was the key grip on that and it was fun and intense. We had stunt coordinators here and everything. The short film is gonna be screening at Sundance in September. I even got the chance meet the actors. I tried to pry some info from Chad about the upcoming fourth season of Walking Dead but he was tight lipped ha ha but a really cool guy.

Thanks man. I'm a little bit older than most on these boards so I might be over aged for an internship.

Would I have to go to an agent, get a copyright and then pay to have it assessed? The people that have read my script like it but I would want more of a pro opinion. I found a web site that will read it and give their thoughts for $50 per 130 page script.

BTW happy again. Hockey season is just around the corner.

To get an actual and good agent is hard. You copyright it using the WGA website. You could have it assessed. I would say try posting it on contests and websites. I also once knew an intern where I was at who - believe it or not - was 30 years old so it is never too late. The key though is it's all about who you know, so you've got to find a way to 'know' somebody. It's like high school all over again almost, without the bullying. And you get to the head of the class and exposure by knowing people - that's really key.

ADDING: As I tell everyone here, keep me in your contacts and in a matter of a couple of years I might be able to do something for you. The people I know are the only real reason I've been able to get to where I am at just 25, so I really want to 'pay-it-forward.' Also another note on contests is that they're all "blind" - except for the blacklist - meaning that those are the types of ways to get noticed where you can by-pass the connections part.

I got to chat with Jim Behnke, the production manager on Drive, in class today. He was our guest speaker for the day and I really got to pick his brain on different stuff. Very exciting

I was able to order the Batman: Arkham City SDCC 2013 Hugo Strange figure for a pretty good price, the best price I've seen yet.

I got the pay rate I wanted, and I'm being moved back to my original location which is a 15 minute walk from my house, as opposed to 90 minutes of trains and buses.

Offered a training contract by my top-choice law firm. Job I've always wanted. Don't know what to do with myself.

I've just found another breakthrough project to work on to follow something I've been working on. I've never been one for found footage films, in writing that is, and it always needs to have some level of excitement and challenge behind it for me.

I've previously wanted to make a found footage film about a haunted house for a college thesis before I heard about Paranormal Activity, had ideas about a superhero found footage film before hearing about Chronicle, so I feel confident enough in this one going forward. And due to positioning, it's dealing with something I have no fear about tackling head on because the content is now readily accessible.

Had an amazing birthday weekend with the girlfriend, apartment-hunting and also looking for a puppy as well.

Bern's Steakhouse, birthday dinner with the family tonight.

Well, I bought The Sims 3: Seasons. It's nice to actually have weather and seasons in my game because the game gets rather boring with just one weather pattern all the time.
