The Amazing Spider-Man What Raimi Really Messed Up!

Actually, I don't find it funny, I find it the reason we need a new director, we've got a director so entrenched in Peter Parker that he doesn't even want Spider-Man in the films--without Peter's face being seen by whomever.

Jeeze. You are one heck of a "glass is half empty" kind of guy.

Quips is the least of Raimi's spidey problems.

an an experiment to yourself, watch the cock tower/train sequence and in the style of 'mystery science theatre' add quips and wisecracks where you think there is a break in the action and see how easy it is to do.

elaberate please.

I thought SM2 was pretty dead on if you ask me, I've been reading spidey since I was 8 and the essense of the character is there, at least in my opinion. I'll conceed he dropped the ball in SM3 though.

Biggest mistake:

Sam Raimi: "Hmm, I really want to make a great third movie... but I REALLY wanna do Sandman! I might not have another chance to do him, because I'm only signed on for the third one and that's it, no guarantees! But I don't want to sacrifice a good story or a story that logically occurs after parts 1 and 2... And I don't want to crowd a movie that already has to have Harry Osborn's story come to a close, plus this "Venom" character that everybody says the audience REALLY wants to see... but I REALLY REALLY want to do Sandman! =(

"I know! I'll make him Uncle Ben's TRUE killer! That way, everybody wins!" =)

Audience on May 1st, 2007: "...WTF??"

A horrible choice by raimi a supposed spider-man fan.
so no one could come up with a better angle for pete wanting to take down the sandman?

:lmao:

But anyway, yeah, it isin't so hard.

PS: I know that you meant the "clock tower". :cwink:

Yeah, I wasn't going to touch that one.:o

Yeah, this was the biggest mistake in the franchise. All he had to do was have Sandman knock Aunt May over when he was sandblasting through the city and put her in a coma. She was missing for the whole movie practically anyway.

As for quips...I think they started out with the idea of doing more quips, but they either weren't funny enough or got in the way of the action.
I say this because the first set report I read of spider-man was in a uk sci-fi mag and it went into detail on the 1st fight with the Goblin.
There was a scene that was filmed with the Goblin saying 'What do you want?'
and Spidey replied 'World peace, but I can't have that I'll have a piece of you.'
So glad they cut that out.
I'd rather have no quips/puns than average or bad quips/puns.
The best one so far i think has been to the wrestler 'That's a nice outfit. Did your husband make it for you.' Because it did the job of winding up the opponent whilst showing that Spidey's confidence was increasing in that early fight.

As others have said, there are certain types of fights where quipage would just get in the way, and even if some lines work on page , they may not stand up to repeated viewing or work onscreen.

If someone comes up with an alright line that isn't some bad pun, fine, but it would be awful if they tried too hard to make him funny and we just got something akin to a McBain line, like the 'world peace' line.

sam thinks too much.

does peter HAVE to have a motivation for chasing a crook?
does a crook HAVE to have a motivation for being bad?

look at the joker in TDK, you didn't know where he was from or way he was doing what he was doing, and guess what? NO ONE CARED.
I agree sympathic villians are good (when done correctly) but it should feel natural not forced. take lizard for instand. symapthic villian. sandman is just a petty crook and should have been treated as such with giving him all this convoluted backstory that served only to anger the fans.

Why?

I thought Sandman was wonderfully conceived in the film but having him be Ben's killer was nonsense.
agreed.

And stop with MJ getting Kidnapped by the Villain in EVERY spider-man movie

Raimi can't fix what he doesn't see as broken, that's the problem. Hell, at this point, there's nothing left in the class. :o

Ch-Ching. Thank you. My thoughts exactly. There are more important problems with the character than him cracking jokes on the villains.

i'll admit, it was kinda stupid, yet, it didnt "ruin" the movie likr others said.but i was just glad it wasnt some random dude that peter didnt like for no reason *looks at spider-man 3 for PS2.* this is just my opinion, and i'm SOOO ready for this but...
