What should be done?

i can't help but think marvel already have their films and characters planned out for the next few years and with spider-man being with sony the question is if there was some truth to it all would sony give the rights back or basically keep him and loan spider-man back to be part of a cross over

there is alot of factors here

Someone mentioned alternate dimensions and how Spidey can be taken from his ''universe'' to join the Avengers against a galactic threat. Not necessarily Thanos. I think this would be the best approach since it doesn't screw the MCU timeline.

Did y'all know Dawn of the Planet of the Apes made 707.3 million? TASM2 made only 709 million.

Lol. After hearing what Black Panther's role will be in the civil war storyline , I can't help but think that Spiderman would probably have been the one to play that role . No doubt they were always gonna include Panther but given that his role sounds much more pivotal as the one caught between Cap and Iron man, something tells me that that was probably gonna be a spot open to Peter Parker had a deal to lease out the character went through.

But, this is what alot of fans of the ASM series wanted so they're gonna get it. I think its a big missed opportunity for Spiderman and Sony given that DC, Marvel, and Fox or gonna be doing some great stuff over the next decade but whatever, alot of fans got what they wanted, so that's that.

I definitely agree with the bolded. But given what was said today at the Q&A, negotiations could still be ongoing.

And I agree with others that say a Sinister Six movie makes no sense.

Sony is on a tighter schedule than Fox. They have to get a Spidey movie out there withing five years. Not 7-8 years like FF. This was part of the original deal. That's why they had to release ASM by 2012. That means Sony will be competing against all of PIII.

What good does it do Marvel to lease Spidey for a few films? Which of those projects need Spidey? Spidey doesn't fit. He could come on TV or Netflix, but does Sony want to see their pride and joy relegated to television?

Marvel cannot use Spidey in PIII at this point. Sony cannot keep him beyond 2019 without a film somewhere in there. The only play is to buy time with spinoffs, or continue with Webb's current series.

To be fair, Spider-Man was involved in the Infinity War.

If you overlay Marvel's movies, DC's movies, Fox's movies and Sony's movies, you have the potential for 6 or more CBM as year. Yikes!

This perfectly describes Spidey and Sony's relationship.

Love this. Haha!

There was never any doubt in my mind that Sony's Spider-man was never coming to the MCU. Marvel doesn't need him.

What Spider-man fans need is Sony to run the series into the ground and either sell or allow the rights to revert back to Marvel.

It's crazy, but (love them or hate them) they've made it clear A-tier heroes aren't necessary for good stories and big money.

EDIT: Looking at that .GIF, it bums me out. I really enjoyed what Sony and Raimi did with the original Spider-man series with Tobey. Crappy as S3 was, I was more than game for a follow-up. Unfortunately I can't say the same for the ASM series...

How many characters will be involved in that movie and would he even fit in?

it could work if it is garfield since the audience know him but if it's a rebooted guy he would be abit of a weak link in a lot of already developed characters

Unless sony really do reboot the character with a new guy from now and 2018

And that's not including Sony or Fox movies.
That is a LOT of movies. Spider-Man is in his 5th iteration, Sony has a job of not only making Spider-Man feel fresh and new, they have a big job of making him feel relevant in the tidal wave of comic book movies.

I feel a little sorry for Sony because the CBM landscape changed around them. When they released Spider-Man in 2002, not only was there a buzz for Spider-Man because it was his first movie (not counting the limited release TV movie) but there was hardly any competition. Now Spider-Man has been putting out movies for 10 years plus AND there is now a SEA of competition he is up against and the competition efforts are all interconnected that gives them a epic grand feel to them.

Sony have their work cut out for them to stand out in the crowd and the likelihood is he'll get lost in the shuffle because even lessor know characters like Black Panther will be riding on the coattails of the Avengers.

I don't feel sorry for Sony. They took Spidey for granted, and ignored the importance of getting the reboot right

If Spidey gets to be in Infinity War or Civil War, it still wont probably make anybody forgive Sony, but it will without a doubt create a new wave of fandom for the web slinger

Fox has Apocalypse coming out and people are excited about that. Spidey has none of that. More and more people just want him back at Marvel instead of a new Sony movie. And who could blame them. ASM2 felt like a demo you show at a corporate meeting.

In retrospect Sony made a HUGE misstep retelling the origin again in ASM. Everyone that saw ASM (regardless of whether or not they enjoyed the movie) would have felt a feeling of deja vu. That feeling of familiarity isn't going to inspire the general audience.
Batman Begins showed an origin not seen before so it was new and fresh and the same goes for X-Men: FC. We had ALREADY seen the Spider-Man origin and that origin was done well and didn't need retelling.

The second (and for me unforgivable misstep) was the parents storyline. C'MON SONY!! Think of all the storylines in Spider-Man canon, think of all the directions they could have gone in. They decided to focus on the parents storyline that showed up in the comics ONCE and was a lacklustre story at that.

So ASM opened with the origin that people were already familiar with and plotline that was uninteresting in the comics and had no lasting impression on the mythology of Spider-Man. Really poor decisions from Sony and they are now backed into a corner.

Hindsight is 20/20 but they really should have opened 6 months or 1 year into Spider-Man's career. Thrown out the origin and used a storyline that was far more impactful in the comics than the parents storyline. At the very least the parents storyline should have been concluded in the first movie.

Sony needs a (critically acclaimed) home run with Sinister Six. If there is good word of mouth for S6 the general audience will want to see them again AND they will be paired against an already iconic and popular Spider-Man. A lacklustre S6 will hurt ASM3 no doubt about it.

I personally would've started the movie with him just starting as Spider-man. acknowledging the fresh start, without the pesky origin

like first a very quick recap of the origin, the cut to Peter in the basement testing web shooters that he finished up, recording an audio journal mentioning his progress. he walks upstairs, where Aunt May is just finishing up breaking in a new stove. She like "Peter! I finally managed to save money for something!"(I'm not a great dialogue writer but anyway)and she's like "I figured I'd make your favorites, wheat cakes! take this baby on a little field test" and Peter responds "field test huh... why not"

cut to Peter on a roof, talking to the tape recorder, saying something witty, and then jumps of, shoots a web, swings to the camera - cut to the car jacker scene, where it establishes the relation ship of him and the police, not to mention how this Spider-man behaves around criminals

On the basis of quality, Apes sucked. So, I would call it a one-off if anything.

Imagine if the very first scene we see of Spider-Man in the ASM was Spider-Man falling from the sky to take on the runaway truth with him quipping up a storm. THAT is how you should have opened he new direction. I like your idea of the webshooters but I think the audience are smart enough to catch on the webshooters are no longer organic, or at least the movie shouldn't slow to show them.

Wow. Opinions. I thought both Apes movies were excellent. Not watch it several times/buy it on Blu Ray excellent, but worth my time and money to see in theatres excellent.

Meh. If I would rant about the apes, my hatred would be as strong as Levi's hate for ASM2 or Joker's. But I won't, since I have a life. So sayonarah, folks! Ain't coming back for a while.

I would've found that quite acceptable too, but still, I think the one thing we can agree on that it'd be best if it was from the beginning of his Spidey career, be it practicing stage or six months in.

if that version still had Lizard as the antagonist, it'd be cool if the story was about Peter feeling a little lost. Like even after his big successful start as a hero, he still misses Ben a lot and naturally is looking for a mentor, some guidance through this that maybe Aunt May can't provide. Then he starts looking in to the spider thing and finds out that the lead of the research is none other than Doc Connors. Peter goes to see him and they kinda hit it off immediately. Peter has lost his parents and uncle and since Connors knows a few things about loss, he sympathizes. He offers an intern job which Peter accepts. and THERE he meets Gwen, who is at the same school but they haven't officially met yet

I wish they had taken a leaf out of Spectacular Spider-Man's book. Mob boss, Spider-Man is ****ing things up, they go to Norman to create super villains to keep Spider-Man busy and off the streets. You get the immediate threat of the super villain and the over arcing plotline of the mob boss. I wouldn't have touched the parents storyline with a barge pole. Seriously, what does it add?

that sounds good for a series, but i dunno, a movie in that fashion could quickly turn into "Zack Snyder's Spider-man"

Spectacular Spider-Man was the first time I was engaged with regards to Spider-Man in years. That was tight story telling and I think that could translate to movies with ease.
