BvS What Stylized Colour Scheme do you Want/Expect for Gotham City?

I much, MUCH prefer the Gotham in TDK/R. The fact that it looks real only helps make it more threatening, and it feels so BIG. BB's felt like a set to me a lot of the time... a good set, but a set none the less. Plus, Gotham has looked just like that (a real city) for the vast majority of it's existence in the comics. And I just like that aesthetic better.

It looking "real" isn't the issue. It looking exactly like Chicago and New York and Pittsburgh and LA is the issue with Gotham in TDK and TDKR. BB used Chicago as well, but Nolan at least made a small attempt to give Gotham it's own character. That was entirely lost in TDK and TDKR.

In TDK the shots of the Chicago bridges and Sears/Willis tower pulled me out of the film pretty hard, and in TDKR the shots from Pittsburgh and LA and Chicago did the same thing. Gotham shouldn't look like any of those cities. I'm all for location shooting, but real world locations serving as fictional locations should be dressed up little bit during the shoot or altered in post-production so the viewer isn't reminded that it's Chicago or Pittsburgh or LA that they are looking at.

Nolan got lazy with Gotham in TDK and TDKR.

Another thing that irks me is Nolan's treatment of Wayne tower.

Batman Begins its this building:

In TDK that building loses the Wayne name:

And Wayne enterprises now occupies this building:

And in TDKR, Wayne enterprises occupies this other building and Nolan didn't even bother to make the Wayne name visible. The letters are there but they are a barely visible black color:

I enjoy Nolan's films immensely but some stuff was diluted or down right lost between Batman Begins and TDKR.

I just don't want this sort of thing to happen to the DCCU's Gotham.

yeah, Gotham became very generic in TDK and TDKR

i don't want to see that again

I hope we get to see more of Gotham in the next trailer.

Yes, that's Batman Begins. I don't remember seeing that part of Gotham in the other two movies.

It was odd to completely ditch the place that was a big part of plot in the first film.

Gordon at the end of Begins; "The Narrows is lost"

They didn't ditch or retcon anything. The island was irrevocably trashed.

Lost, yes. But it didn't disappear from the face of the Earth. It should still be seen in those aerial shots of the city, yet it isn't... that was my point.

It was a small island connected to the city by bridges at one side of the city;

Look at the size of it compared to the buildings of the city. They tower over it and could easily obscure it at different angle shots. It wasn't even part of the main city. Did TDK/R have loads of aerial shots from all angles of the city that should have covered this little island? The whole thing could even have been demolished 8 years later in Rises and re-zoned as part of the main city.

It wasn't something that stood out in any way, IMO. To me it's more daunting to see stuff like Wayne Manor change from this for no reason;

Well, there was plenty of aerial shots in both TDK and TDKR, but fair enough, the island is small.

Didn't someone involved in the film say that Gotham would look very gray? Either way, that's what I'm expecting.

I'm hoping it will retain some of the fantastical gothic elements that Burton used. His Gotham is still my favorite, with Nolan's BB Gotham in second.

I wanted something similar to this for BvS's Gotham city,

I don't really want it to look so modern like it did in Nolan's trilogy. I want it to look more like a mix of a modern/Victorian style city.

And going by that empire cover with Bruce and Clark, the city behind Bruce has a similar design to those so I'm happy about that so far.

I doubt BVS' Gotham will look quite so Fritz Lang/Metropolis, but I do hope it's not as basic looking as Nolan's was in the last two movies.

Different angles of the building?

I love something about Schumahers Gotham... I dont know what or why maybe its my nostalgia :D

Those are beautiful drawings and Gotham in vein of Lang's "Metropolis" would actually be something really special, but, yeah, it is a bit too out there for this DC universe.

Anyway, I also like how the city looks in that "Empire" cover. I assume that it will indeed feel like a real city, but with older buildings and many industrial areas. I recall that Affleck mentioned in some of the interviews that Detroit has a lot of old buildings that are fitting for Gotham.

I see a Gotham in the vein of Lang's Metropolis fitting well in this fantastical DCEU. :) It may be a bit much but I can see it. But so far, I like what we've seen of Gotham in BvS. This is still one of my favorite set pics of a Gotham location; the theater on the night of the Wayne Murders,

And it looks great in what we could see of it in the trailer too.

Well, maybe it would fit... I'm coming from the fact that the universe is still grounded to an extent, even though it's certainly more fantastical than Nolan's world was, but I'll be damned... I'm trying to imagine it and can't decide whether it would work or not. :funny:

Anyway, I love that picture. The set pic looks like the shot from the film itself.

I totally understand if it can't be seen for some, haha. Maybe a less busy version of it could work? That's doable.

And yes, I really like how the theater looks in the photo and the film. I'm really happy we've got Fong's cinematography this time around with Batman involved. We're in for some sweet visual goodness.

That's why I hoped they would use this building for the movie.

I remember... this building is insane, would look great for Gotham. They might use it in future films, if they don't in this one. What is it, by the way?
