YAKUZA ( 1974)

Not easy to find this, excellent film.

A decent drama with a strong central performance from Julianne Moore and a really strong performance from Sydney Sweeney. I honestly wish the two of them had more scenes together because Sweeneys character pretty much disappears halfway through the movie and I felt like the movie became less compelling because of that although Domhnall Gleeson plays a great scumbag in this too and a character you really hate.

6.5/10

I quite enjoyed this and honestly don't get the low ratings. It's not flawless but it's a nice combination of similar films like Cube and Escape Room with some pretty interesting and likeable characters as well as a really solid mystery that kept my attention.

7/10

Yeesh this was rough and I know most people seem to like this film but man was this awful IMO and a complete waste of time. I enjoyed the first film and thought the trailers for this looked like dumb fun but this wasn't very entertaining at all and a good majority of it was filled with nothing but lame cringe inducing jokes and even lamer, tame action scenes that were super forgettable. I still like the Megan character overall but she deserves better than this and eventhough this flopped at the BO if they somehow decide to make more films in this franchise I hope they go back to their campy B horror movie roots.

4/10

Apparently this was Morbin time and made Morbillion dollars at the box office but I dont see how considering its bland, boring, generic superhero/anti hero flick that had absolutely no redeeming features with the last 1/3 of the film being just a mess of CGI smeared across the screen that you cant see whats happening, I doubt it was anything interesting anyway. The only thing that got me through this slop was Adria Arjona who I didnt even realize was in it, she didnt have anything interesting to do other than play love interest/nurse to the lead and her character dies then comes back to life for the inevitable sequel, lol, but at least she was the only thing that was pleasant on the eye's in this garbage that didnt make me want to rip my own eye's out.

Interstellar - Love this movie to death. Huge thanks to Zimmer's chilling, haunting & emotionally captivating score. The movie would not have been the same in the hands of a different composer.

Contact & Interstellar are my two favourite sci-fi movies of all time.

Madame Web. 1/10

I was hoping it would be hilariously bad; the type of movie I could just get drunk and laugh at hysterically for two hours. Instead it was just BAD bad. So dull and it just felt like nothing was happening. I gave up after half an hour. I think maybe I would give it another shot if there is ever a Rifftrax on it. Maybe that would make it a little easier to sit through.

Rings (2017)

I remember seeing this third US entry in the Ring franchise not too long after it came out. It got slated back then and didn't do well financially. It pretty much ignores the Naomi Watts movies and starts out as its own thing - an obvious attempt to relaunch Ring as Final Destination type teen horror. It doesn't work. The two 'name actors' - Johnny Galecki and Vincent D'Onofrio - are good (shame they don't share a scene); the rest of the cast are young, charisma black holes, playing characters we don't care about because we know next to nothing about them. The colour desaturation is waay overdone, as though the director saw it somewhere and thought it looked 'cool'. And the story is a mess; anyone not familiar with the Ring mythology - and maybe even some who are familiar with it - will probably be confused as hell. Bonnie Morgan - the actress/contortionist portraying Samara - does a good, creepy job (no digital effects on her contortions, they're all done for real; the girl must be quadruple-jointed or something!), but doesn't get much to do. Typical - the best thing about the movie is underused. Not surprisingly, there was no follow-up. Galecki, D'Onofrio, and Morgan get this 4/10

The road to Predator:Badlands starts here but before the Predators, doing a general 80s/90s action re-watch and catch up some that I missed back in the day starting with Total Recall which I had somehow never seen.

While not the best of Verhoevens or Arnies extensive works I can see why its pretty popular and a classic to many. It has a lot of cool sci-fi, Bond-esq gadgets and ideas, the plot twists are also pretty well done too. Perhaps if it wasnt an action film with some dodgy Arnie one-liners thrown in it it could be closer to something like Bladerunner being based on a K.Dick novel but it is what it is. The action and sets arent as slick as Robocop or Terminator but still a pretty damn good blast and violent.
