Predator: Badlands

Probably the most violent family friendly film to come out this year, with plenty of alien goo and synthetic blood on display. Dan Trachtenberg's hot streak continues.

Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc

Man, my boy Denji can never catch a break. Showcases how confusing and exciting young love can be amidst thrilling sequences of hyperviolence. Iris Out is a TUNE.

Frankenstein (2025)

Andrew Garfield dropping out was the best thing to happen to this film, because Jacob Elordi absolutely knocks it out of the park. Gorgeous looking movie, digital Netflix sheen be damned.

Returning to 1970s TV Horror , I stopped to watch another of Kolchack's adventures, this time on a cruise line , where Werewolf is ravaging the passengers and the ship's crew.

Colossus : The Forbin Project and Daytime Soap Legend, Eric Braeden , guest stars as the moody, and volatile Werewolf , as Darren McGavin's Kolchack , has to fight the ship's Captain, and a allude an single woman looking for love , on a dating cruise.

The episode is hysterical , while at the same time, the fight scenes are actually pretty good .

While they clearly don't have the money to pull off an expensive Werewolf get up, the episode is nevertheless, entertaining , and Darren McGavin has a way of cracking me up with just a look that he gives and a line delivery.

Another solid , fun, and entertaining adventure in the Kolchack Canon.

Airing on Halloween in 1974 , A Song by Bad Company was in the top ten.

Wasn't that bad
JLC was clearly having a ball, and Manny Jacinto and Julia Butters also gave solid performances (Jacinto's dodgy English accent aside)
Had all the Very Important Life Lessons (TM) one would expect from a movie of this type, but not in a super painful Disney TV kinda way. I was also impressed it looked like Lohan actually learned to play the guitar part for the end.
So, not bad for what it was, 7/10

Nightmare (AKA Nightmares in a Damaged Brain ~ 1981)

American 'psychological slasher', directed by Romano Scavolini.

Convicted murderer George Tatum (Baird Stafford) has spent years in a mental hospital after being diagnosed with a whole range of psychological disorders, After undergoing an experimental treatment to 'reprogram' his brain and turn him into an upstanding citizen, he is released (for the record, two minutes with this guy would tell any sane person not to release him) - on the condition that he continue his treatment as an outpatient. However, a visit to a Times Square 'peep show' soon has George drooling and slobbering (not for the usual reasons) and generally freaking out. This awakens memories/flashbacks of a violent murder of a man and woman engaged in an S&M sex session. Next thing you know George does a bunk from NY and goes on a murderous road-trip (to Florida - for reasons which become apparent). As George embarks on his killing spree, his psychiatrist and a shady figure known only as 'Man with Cigar' (who's been overseeing George's treatment) frantically try to track him down before word gets out that they've 'lost him'.

This was one of the most notorious of the 'video nasties'. It's gory, to be sure, with graphic axe murders, throat slashings, garrottings, and a lot of stabbing - but the main reason for its notoriety is that two UK distributors actually went to jail. When the BBFC viewed the film (it was originally submitted for big screen release) they demanded 48 seconds of cuts. Instead, the distributors released it - uncut - straight-to-video. The film was prosecuted for violation of the Obscene Publications Act (director Scavolini's background up to that point was largely in hardcore pornography, hence the mount of sex/nudity and the (very fitting) overall tone of sleaziness), and the distributors were sentenced to 18 months and 9 months imprisonment, respectively (tough for them - but great publicity for the film).

Baird Stafford (in one of his only two acting roles) gives it all he's got, frothing at the mouth like... well... a lunatic, and the makeup/effects aren't bad for the time. It's often compared to the 1980 film Maniac (starring Joe Spinell); it does have the same kind of feel, and the early scenes around NY strip joints definitely call it to mind, but I think Maniac is better. This does have its moments though, and some of the kills are brutal. 6/10

Very good retelling of a true story, excellent cast and not over dramatized for effect just a tense and very well shot movie that keeps things simple and is all the better for it. Well worth a watch and a short run time keeps things focused and brisk paced.

Id definitely recommend this one if you enjoy cosmic/lovecraftian inspired horror films. Its also a Brazilian film which adds a bit of uniqueness too it as well which I also liked.

(Night Shift)

A pretty decent Spanish/Mexican horror film but it definitely won't be for everyone and it's honestly one of the few films I've seen this year that made me feel fairly uncomfortable at times due to the brutality of the violence and some truly horrific imagery.

An interesting witch film with some really top notch performances and direction but I do wish we got a bit more out of it. I don't think I've ever seen this level of acting from Patricia Heaton but she did a great job playing such a dark and creepy character. The ending is also something I never saw coming and it's such a huge swing that it honestly might put most people off but I enjoyed the boldness of it.

Solid Indian horror flick although I was surprised at how action heavy it became at times which didn't always flow well for me in combination with the supernatural stuff but I can't say that I didn't enjoy it for the most part despite the wild tonal shifts.

Blood Delirium (1988)

Italian gothic-horror starring John Phillip Law (Barbarella), directed by Sergio Bergonzelli.

Painter Saint Simon (Law) is commercially successful. He lives in a huge old castle, and exhibits his work to public acclaim. His chief inspiration is his wife, Christine (Brigitte Christensen). However, she dies - leaving 'maestro' without his muse. After struggling for a year to regain his form he decides that to have any chance of further success he needs his wife. So, one night he and nutty butler Hermann (Gordon Mitchell - former star of umpteen sword-and-sandal pics) exhume his wife's skeletal corpse and stick it by the piano in the living room. Then he meets Sybille (also played by Christensen), who bears an uncanny resemblance to Christine, and invites her to his castle. But despite his wife's corpse and a living lookalike he is still unable to paint! Fortunately, nutty Hermann has raped a local girl and accidentally killed her. When Saint Simon sees her blood he realises this is the inspiration he has been seeking! He drains the girl's corpse and mixes her blood into his paint. But to resume full-time painting he's going to need more...

John Phillip Law looked back on this as a bad film. In fact, his agent blew a gasket when he heard he'd done it. It's made on a shoestring. Law was grateful for a lead role after failing to have the mainstream success he'd hoped, Mitchell was way past his prime (although still imposing) and taking more character parts, and Christensen was a virtual unknown. As for Bergonzelli, he'd been largely a porn director (he certainly makes sure every actress here strips completely). The story is a mishmash, with supernatural communications from the future, reincarnation, necrophilia, rape, and murder. The dialogue is downright awful in places (although some of that may be down to translation). But you have to give Law and Mitchell credit for going all-in; Law is maniacally over-the-top, whilst Mitchell is skin-crawlingly disturbing. Some of Law's wide-eyed looks wouldn't look out of place in a b&w silent melodrama, such as when he catches Hermann trying to have sex with the corpse of his beloved Christine - followed by the line "Hermann, you bastard!" (which I can absolutely imagine on one of those old full-screen dialogue caption cards!)

It's worth a watch for a laugh - 5/10
