Days of Future Past what would improve a sequels chance of making more money?

Release it on 1st weekend of May with a better marketing campaign.

I think this movie has already increased the next movie's chances of making more money. The film had good reviews, and once it hits DVD's and more people start watch it, the buzz for the next film could grow considerably.

BB had the same kind of thing happen. of course, Begins still had much better legs then FC did. But a similar thing could happen.

- Better release date, far away from other Marvel Movies, other Comic-book movies or similar movies;
- Better marketing;
- Hire new cast members, well-know along with the "first" cast (McAvoy, Fassbender etc);
- Make a viral marketing campaign;
- Take That's Love Love has helped to sell the movie. So use another song from a well know band and make a damn music video;
- Make a videogame. Videogames helps to sell movies.

Overseas 3D could help, but domestically the balance has tipped - 3D is now a financial liability. Americans do not want to pay for it any longer (and I suspect that's case for a lot of Europe too).

Just kidding. Yeah, I agree with Infinity... I think good word of mouth will reap good Blu-Ray/DVD sales and rentals and build buzz for a sequel. And add at least one character who (visually) provides a major spectacle. Someone like Apocalypse.

Yeah, spectacle is a big box office draw now. People are more apt to skip films in the theater if there's not a reason to see it IN the theater. And films with spectacle draw people to see it on the big screen. Avatar was smart about that. You didn't get the full Avatar treatment if you didn't see it on the big screen and in 3D, and it paid off.

They could've had a big spectacle with the way they set up Shaw, but honestly, the way they did it was the only way Mags could have beat him, so I was okay with it. Plus, it was an emotional confrontation, not a physical one.

I just wanted to comment on these two little nuggets, first, the X-Men have become vampires in the comics recently, let's just say it dind't work.

And on the other one I don't think 3D will be such a high selling point in the next three years, it's becoming an old trick really fast, maybe IMAX?

Yeah with the exception of the Avatar Sequels, 3D is too expensive for average moviegoers and really doesn't add much to the experience anyway. I think studios will keep making movies in 3D, but it will be relegated once again to kids movies and d grade horror flicks.

Even then, I think I heard somewhere that Kung Fu Panda 2 was the first animated movie in years to earn more off of 2D screenings. 3D is a fad again, not the future of movies, least not during a recession.

A lot of people liked the fact that Super 8 and X men weren't in 3D.

I think there's definitely a market for 'spectacle' movies in 3D. Avatar 2 and 3, Pacific Rim, Godzilla, and Jurassic Park-type movies.

The problem is studios are making everything 3D just because of the higher ticket prices. It will backfire eventually because not every movie needs to be 3D.

I couldn't see any other way to do it other than having more recognizable actors or characters into the mix. Other than that, seeing how the first movie was so generally liked by critics and audiences, they'll go see it as long as the integrity from the first is seemingly carried over.

Yeah, I've liked X1, X2 and FC, but none of them were particularly stimulating films, visually. They're all very good movies no doubt, but I think part of the reason some of the interest in X-Men has waned a bit is the lack of spectacular visuals. I think they might have tried to go a tad too realistic with the look at times. There were still some amazing sequences in FC, but nothing that I found eye-popping like some of the visuals in Thor or even Green Lantern (I know most people hated the latter, but regardless... there was some stunning imagery in it, IMO).

That being said, I still think FC was the best superhero movie of the year, so far.

I really liked the idea of introducing Psylocke. She could be badass and become a new favorite, like Mystique.

I feel like First Class (although it was awesome seeing Mystique as a person) took a bit of the misterious aspect that Mystique held in the trilogy. She was the badass assassin who couldn't care less about anyone, and kept words to a mininum. This movie made her too gentle. So it might be nice to see a truly powerful woman on the screen, while Mystique doesn't become the killer we knew and loved.

Marketing is essential.

Larger scope of action.

Re-introduction of Storm. She's a general public favorite and undoubtedly one of the most iconic X-men characters in the movie verse, maybe only second to Wolverine and close to Mystique. There's so much she can do with her powers. She's like Magneto. Her range can be immense, but it seems unlike Mags, writers only want to use her for wind and lightning, which is a pity.

We're still yet to see a truly epic battle between mutants.

I'm talking Harry Potter, Lord of The Rings style. With everyone going all out in the same panel/image.

X3 had a ~final battle~ but it was really uninspired. Tag teaming is still a major problem with the franchise. And it all comes down to creativity.

X3's budget should have been enough to produce an 'epic' movie. The main problem was the cast cost a huge amount. Fox may have signed the new guys up for 3 films to prevent spending $50 million+ on cast for future films.

I think since this was a reboot (of some sorts) the audience didnt know how to take it. Since the word of mouth is good with the film the sequel will have a better performance. It did solid for not having the familiar cast and especially without Logan as the lead but XFC proved itself worthy. People will want to see what happens to these characters.

And seriosuly X4, XFC2...whatever, they need to bring on a certain hot british/asian ninja chick with purple hair.

Marketing was the major pitfall IMO

And I think the powers have been fine thus far.

The only sad thing is how weak cyclops and storm have been. It would be interesting to experience them at full power.

But that could only be done in a story line with apocalypse, the sentinels or sinister

I personally think it well do better in sequels...

one of the bigger problems the movie had (in terms of attracting an audience) was that this was an entirely new cast, and mostly new characters, that the general audience wasn't familiar with...

this could more of less be a self correcting issue, when it comes to the squeal...
as tho, it may not of brought in a lot of new people to theaters, people may eventually still find there way to seeing it, on DVD, pay preview, and TV... before the next one comes out, and well be introduce to these characters, and well want to see more about what happens to these characters, by the time a squeal comes out...

its sad that this movie didn't really find as big of an audience in theaters that it should've, but, it may still find its audience, yet... And hopeful develop a bit more of a following
