The Hurricane Heist

It's one thing to make a crappy B grade action movie, but it's other thing to make two completely irrelevant crappy movies crash into each other and call it a film. The worst part about it is this movie doesn't really get to have stupid fun until the very end. The heist part is like watching a high school play of Heat. It's poorly acted and the bad hick accents made it worse. You can even see the seams of the movie's budget because there's maybe 2 or 3 sets in the entire movie including a bad studio lot of what a small town should look like. Overall, it's a bad movie that didn't quite reach its awesomely dumb title.

It was somewhat enjoyable, but the movie as a whole never completely worked like they wanted. I feel like they were trying to go for a Coen brothers movie, but they constantly trip up on the balancing act between humor and drama. I thought the comedy part was indeed funny and David Oyelowo and Sharlto Copley were by far the best part of the movie. I just wish this movie was more clever and had a better purpose of what they were trying to do. Overall, it's just meh.

Verónica

I really enjoyed it. It's a really well directed horror film that took a page from other great horror films like The Conjuring and Carrie and focus more on the story rather than "how man jump scares can we put in this." But that doesn't take away from the scares, there's some unnerving images they put in here and they are pretty effective. Paco Plaza (who also co directed the [Rec] films) had some great shots that you don't see coming. Overall, it's worth checking out on Netflix especially if you're not a big horror fan.

Looks pretty interesting. I love supernatural horrors. I'll give this one a look

I didn't find it particularly deep or clever, but it is very atmospheric, there is an eerie foreboding menace over the whole film, the visuals create a tangible sense of these characters really being encased in this nightmarish environment, and all of the lead performances are strong. It loses it's way a bit at the end but it's a good slice of creepy sci fi.
