Iron Man 2. Better than I remember it.

District 9. Funny, I felt for the plight of the horrific looking prawns more than I did the over the top "beatutiful" Na'Vi in Avatar. Take notes, Cameron.

**** the Na'vi and their stupid three. Poor prawns had to live in slums.

THOR

Aside from some very weak live action versions of The Mighty Thor ( The Incredible Hulk Returns) until now i have mainly watched his adventures through animation and the comics.
So Director Kenneth Branagh deserves a ton of praise for bringing the larger than life Asgardian to the big screen.
Odin's son Thor (Chris Hemsworth) about to take the throne of Asgard but is interrupted when the Frost Giants attempt to retrieve the Casket of great power ceased by Odin (Anthony Hopkins) years before.Ignoring his father who wants to maintain the fragile peace treaty with the frost giants Thor travels to Jotunheim with Loki (Tom Hiddleston), childhood friend Sif (Jaimie Alexander) and the Warriors Three; Volstagg (Ray Stevenson), Fandral (Joshua Dallas) and Hogun (Tadanobu Asano) to make them pay for their disrespectful invasion. After a great battle, they are whisked back to Asgard by Odin,Thor is banished to earth for his disobedience and arrogance. He falls smack into
scientist Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), her assistant Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) and mentor Dr. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgard)

Director Kenneth Branagh truly brings Asgard to life on a grand scale most of the visuals are crystal clear, though some of the 3D is a bit choppy.
Chris Hemsworth is great as Thor he truly captures the spirit of Thor.
Tom Hiddleston is ok as his brother Loki though a bit to teary eyed for me,he excels in the scenes in which he puts his mischief to work.
The romance between Thor and Jane Foster is a bit lukewarm in the film,i dont really fault the actors but rather the pacing of the script, they definitely should have had more relationship building scenes together.I would have liked to have seen more of the Asgardians. There are a few inconstancies in the script.
I really liked Idris Elba as Heimdall he does the best he can with his short scenes in the film.
The action sequences are great just to see Thor's mighty hammer fly in the air, bowl over villains and return to him like a boomerang made me feel like a kid again.
There are cool references to other Marvel characters and i truly cant wait to see Thor mix it up with the other Avengers next year.
Scale of 1-10 a 7½

THE BEAVER

Sure i have seen the type of puppet therapy Walter Black(Mel Gibson) comes up with in
Jodie Foster's The Beaver. In sitcoms and in the comedy What About Bob?
But in the aforementioned such therapy is only briefly touched on.
The Beaver makes it the core of its story and then some.
Walter is severely depressed so much so he mainly sleeps, his toy company is going down in flames, his youngest son Henry (Riley Thomas Stewart ) doesnt know him.
His oldest Porter (Anton Yelchin) hates him,and his wife Meredith(Jodie Foster)
asks him to leave.
After 2 suicide attempts Walter knocked out by a T.V awakens with a Beaver puppet on his hand and begins to talk to it(which amazingly sounds like Ray Winstone)
In their convo it states its going to save Walter's life and help him get his act together.
The biggest hurdle to film has to get over is Mel Gibson. Can the audience get past how his life and racist rants have played out in the media, and view Gibson solely as Walter?
The fact that i was able to crack a smile and feel something for his character
and his plight in some very powerful and moving scenes answers that question, well at least for me.
Sure some of the scenes are a bit odd and hard to accept, when Walter cant let The Beaver go even in moments of intimacy. But somehow it works and you have to applaud the entire cast for taking on a story with such subject matter.Leaving the theatre i did wonder how the film would have turned out if a comedic actor had taken on the role.

There is a side story with Porter and Jennifer Lawrence as Norah trying to work out some teenage angst, but The film truly excels whenever Gibson and the beave are on screen.

Scale of 1-10 an 8

Wonderfully directed by Mike Nichols, and with truly outstanding performances from all of the cast, though Portman outshine them all as the manipulative Alice. Closer is , without a doubt, a fantastic film.

Today was my blaxploitation Monday

Black Belt Jones & Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song

Scott Pilgrim. How the hell people liked this mess is beyond me.

Thor - 8/10

It's very good. I was especially impressed by Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston's potencial. Kenneth Branagh was not a surprise, I was totally expecting him to kick ass in the direction. A very good movie and much better than Iron Man in my book. It even made me excited about The Avengers which I had considered not such a good idea until then.
