Moneyball - 9/10
After seeing this while actually being completely awake, I understood things a hell of a lot more this this time, especially themes where I couldn't believe I didn't even see those. As someone who doesn't like sports or baseball, it's a great story that makes me admire the hell out of Billy Beane. Doing something different in the hundred years of baseball with a team that no one had much faith in was such a huge risk. I can't even imagine the pressure, not to mention the doubt from the older managers on his own team. It just goes to show that anything new will be treated with hostility. But how can you know that it doesn't work unless you try it? Now I can see what is making Brad Pitt get the Oscar buzz. Tough, with a lot of faith. There's a lot going on in his eyes too. It's very subtle performance, but to the point where the Academy can see it. Jonah Hill gave a very impressive performance, and he works great with Brad Pitt. They're a good team from behind the scenes. I must also add it has perhaps the best cinematography of the movies of 2011. Wally Pfister does wonders with natural lighting. My only criticism that still remains is that it drags on in the middle, but other than that, it has a good pace.
