When I was a kid...

To find out who was on the phone you actually had to answer it.
Hip-hop was considered a fad.
One of the biggest movie-stars in the world was Eddie Murphy.
Going over someone's house and playing video games was like an event.
Slasher films were all the rage.
Having a Jheri curl and wearing a shower cap outside was considered cool.
Fridays meant staying up as late as you could.
TGIF was the ****.
The only way to own a movie was by recording it off TV with a VCR.
You could only rent a movie for one or two days.
Nickelodeon was in it's golden years.
The parents of America's biggest enemies were Beavis and Butt-Head.

  • White dog poo
  • A layer of skin on the top of your coffee

I also remember back then The Goosebumps were da ****.

The "Horror" edition:

Nightmare on Elm Street, not only was scary - up until four - but had it's own series.
Anytime ANYONE was in the woods, he or she had to chant "killkillkillkillkahkakahkah."
Tales from the Crypt was a guilty pleasure and could put a scare into you.
'Are You Afraid Of The Dark' was surprisingly creepy and cool.
Michael Myers struck fear. . . not jokes. :O
If you could keep your eyes open, TBS was known for playing cheesy-ass-scary-movies like Killer Klowns From Outer Space.. . way late at night.

Good times!!

The only reality shows on T.V. was Cops and The Real World.
E was a fashion channel not a Kardashian channel.
Tim Burton's Batman was the mountaintop of comic book movies.
Whitney Houston was known only for her voice.
Soap Opera's were a big deal on T.V.
"Did I do that?" was the hot catchpharse.
Will Smith was still a rapper.
Michael Jordan had yet to win a NBA Championship.
Charles Barkley was on his way to being the greatest Philadelphia 76'er ever.

When I was a kid, everything seemed really cool because I was a kid.

Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer and New Kids on the Block were hot commodities. I was too young to really know them but I know other people talked about them.

When I was a kid..

- You had to blow on certain games & certain consoles full force to make them work.. shoving them in harder also seemed to do the trick.

- Tins of Coke were 40p & packets of crisps were 25p-35p.

- WWF/WCW was the sheeeet & wrestling in general was tolerable to watch.

- The effects in movies/TV shows looked superb.

- There were actually good cartoons on TV on a Saturday morning..

- Weekends meant more..

- "Curtains" was a cool looking hairstyle.

- Only people who were talented tended to be famous..

- There were actually good horror films.

- Buying things from America felt like a half price sale.

There was nothing more exciting than watching anyone, heel or face, get a Stone Cold Stunner.

-my father
-took me into the city
-to see a marching band
-he said "son when
-you grow up.
-would you be,
-the savior of the broken?
-the beaten and the damned?
-he said will you defeat them?
-your demons.
-and all the nonbelievers.
-the plans that they have made.
-because one day,
-I'll leave you
-A phantom
-to lead you in the summer
-to join the black parade.

Is there any particular reason why you're quoting My Chemical Romance?

-The only place to see Star Wars was in a movie theater
-The movie theater only had 2 screens
-The only place to look up movie times was in the newspaper
-Copying a song meant holding a tape recorder up to the speakers of the radio as the song was playing.
-We had metal lunchboxes
-I had an Atari
-Once you missed a TV show, you missed it
-Thursday nights on NBC were: The Cosby Show, Family Ties, Cheers, Night Court, and Hill Street Blues
-And on Friday, it was Friday Night Videos :awesome:
-Halloween costumes were cheap vinyl things with a mask held on by a rubber band
-"Pac Man Fever" was performed at my elementary school concert (not by me)
-The ABC Afterschool Special was considered an educational tool
-We only had 1 version of HBO, they only played R-rated movies at night, and they started everything with this:

That really takes me back...

Most of the posters at the hype weren't born yet.
Neither were most of thier parents.

Haha a lot of these are so familiar!! Return of the Jedi was the first movie I was old enough to go see at the theatre. And I still*play* my Atari :D

Man, I totally loved Night Court!! Someone needs to show it again...Nick at Nite did for a while then it disappeared. And for the record, that intro to HBO is still boss! I remember hearing it so much when I was a kid...it is ingrained in my brain!

Ah yes, I vaguely remember the very end of that, with the colors inside the H.

I found these a few months ago. I dont remember the commercials but the Universal logo looking like that and the Sunday Night Movie special effects brought back memories. It blew my mind that I was 4 months old when this was being aired.

And then there was this one from my teens:
