I think he should change the logo in the middle of THE DARK KNIGHT but it has to be an organic change in the story...perhaps the Joker aims for Batman's head with a gun and Batman figures because everyone knows who he is now and wants to deflect attention away from his head he puts a shiny yellow oval around the bat symbol...so it makes his chest a bullseye instead of his head...this is the explanation used by Frank Miller in The Dark Knight Returns...

I'd expect something less rustic to symbolise that Batman is developing.

BB logo with a different color/finish on it.

they should change the batarangs, they are ****ing hideious....

they should get some that fold out like either in batman beyond or in The Batman....

There were some folding ones, although we never saw them used. I remember it showed a quick shot of him folding some up towards the end of the film.

I thought they seemed much more practical than the massive ones from the last series. They were small and sharp, more like shuriken.

Yes.
And even the BB Collector Edition action figure by Mattel comes with a cool folding batarang (a bit oversised for his scale though):

the batman's batarang is probably his most practical possession, it doubles up as a pair of sais and also sometimes a grapling hook

how cool is that...

I only like beyond's better because of the way they fold out before they are thrown like wings...

I think not having a symbol on his chest at all would be better, and add to the realism that they're going for in the Begins saga. Why would Bruce even bother putting a symbol on his chest at all if it didn't serve a purpose like the drawing fire away from his head thing, thats just my take on it though.

No chest logo?...that would be more realistic?
Sure...and while we're at it he should remove the horns from the cowl too....I mean who uses horns on a helmet anyhow to fight? Right??

The chest bat is the representation of his persona...his dread come to life to strike that same fear into the hearts of those that now use fear on the weaker.

"It's time my enemies felt my dread"....and the purpose of the costume is to do that. The Bat is a simbol to strike fear into the hearts of those that would do wrong. Argue all you want about liking or hating the Begins suit..or any other movie bat suit, but that is the purpose of Batman.

Removing his tradmarks will turn him into nothing more than a guy in a costume where Batman is supposed to be more than 'just' a guy in costume.

As for the chest simbol...I'm all for subtle changes to the suit for DKR...subtle, not extreme...so I'm all for something new on that front too and I loved every single thing about the Begins suit...if they dont change it I'll be just as happy with DKR.

I dont agree with the yellow oval at this point either.....it would be cool if at some point in the film Bale addresses the idea of a target on his chest for bad guys to 'aim' at but other than that nostalgic feeling of seeing the yellow oval I dont care for it at this point.

Also, nice post.

That explanation was ridiculous. It was just Frank Miller trying to justify a stupid design decision that was only made for copyright reasons.

Why would Batman want a target on himself at all? Isn't it better to just not be seen than to be seen with a giant target. Besides, it's not like bad guys have the greatest aim. Okay, they aim for his chest, what if they miss by a couple inches?

I'd kind of like to see the oval return if they make a 4th movie. For now Batman should keep the other symbol because these first three movies are basically set in the Year One era.

I'd like to see only subtle changes in TDK and BB3 to the suit like getting rid of the clasps, making it more lightweight and perhaps doing something to the neckline to where Bats neck doesn't look so oversized and he can turn his head a little better. But when (or if) the fourth film comes I would like to see more obvious changes, like longer ears on the cowl, a wider mouth hole, the oval Bat symbol and maybe even changing the suit to a dark, charcoal gray(the cape, cowl, boots, gloves and scallops should of course remain black). Thats my take on the whole Batsuit matter.

Keep the same one. It's good, no point in changing.

Now thats not a very good way to look at it. Lacks imagination for one, and its not as if there aren't any improvements that could be made to the suit which are actually functional.

the emblem on the suit doesn't need changing, i think it should be consistent and also it looks far better than the B89 symbol. More imposing. also the other one reminds me of BF/B&R.....so no thanks.

The suit, i hope, will be made to looks sleeker and more functional, and also more organic. Perhaps some sort of cloth material over the foam latex stuff. Less teh puffy, essentially.

This thread isn't about the suit... it's about the emblem. And there's nothing wrong with wanting the emblem to remain the same. It brings in a sense of continuity. It would be kinda funny if he just barely got the bat-signal in the last scene of Begins, then they change it for the next movie.

I agree.
And this new franchise it's not like Joel Schumacher's party where Batman had two different suits per film only to sell more toys...
:o

I didn't say anything about removing the horns, they obviously serve the purpose of creating the image of a bat, and carrying that radio or whatever that was. The symbol however is not essential to creating the image of a bat IMHO, a man standing over six feet tall in a big black suit with a cape and horns is plenty enough to accomplish that. I doubt any bad guys would look at Batman and not fear him because doesn't have a bat symbol on his chest.
