If I were to really define what it means to be Black in the US, I would probably be writing a book. But, I already simply stated it is to be of African ancestry, which she does not have. Thus, she is not Black. No amount of baptism by tanning oil will change that for her.

Well I think there's a difference between someone identifying with black culture and someone identifying with a dog or cat.

It's kind of appalling the things people say to attack transrace when it's considered taboo to say those same things about transgender.

Not everyone, but some people just want to continue mocking whites who act black. So they fight the idea of transrace tooth and nail. God forbid a white person say they want to be black.

There are lots of psychological conditions that society finds detrimental and tries to remedy and there are alot of socially motivated beliefs that society tolerates or even encourages.

Biological motivation doesn't give you a blank check to do whatever you want and something culturally or socially motivated doesn't automatically mean your goals are without merit.

This is just as wrong as men pretending to be women/women pretending to be men. Completely unacceptable & shows a huge insecurity within the individual that they would go to such drastic measures to try to be something they obviously aren't & won't ever be.

As a proud black man, I am offended by this woman & I feel she needs to go away pronto. You don't just get to decide you're an ethnicity one day because you feel like it, I don't care what your reasons are. Accept your actual background & leave it at that. Right now, as it stands, I see her as one of the biggest jackasses of the new age.

A black baby who is raised in Japan will identify with the Japanese. A Japanese baby raised in a black area with black parents will identify with blacks.

Black identity is learned, it's not genetic.

I have nothing against people who are transgender.

Life is short. People should be free to identify as whatever gender they want as long as it doesn't hurt anyone.

But I also look at people who might be transrace and I ask the same question. Does it harm anyone?

No, it doesn't.

There are lots of whites who identify with blacks. People need to stop treating them as if they committed some terrible crime.

totally i grew up listening to ABBA till people both black and white told me something was wrong with that &*^&!! how can you not love a Swedish pop group!?!..now i just tell em to go jump in a lake!

But that's the whole point. This perception of "race" is a cultural concept not a scientific one. Biologically speaking the color of someone's skin means nothing. We are all the same species and that's it as far as science is concerned.

Right, but it's not just psychological there are other biological components. I think the term transrace is being used to discredit transgender people and are not really comparable at all. I think I said this earlier, but I think it is perfectly fine for someone to identify with another culture that being said the way this lady went about it seems like she is more of a con artist and a little bit crazy.
