Who do you want to see as Captain Marvel?

^^^Well, unless they've secretly had a Black Panther director on board for a while, I don't think that will happen if she gets introduced in an earlier movie like many of us are hoping. With the way the MCU works, choosing your leads is kind of a luxury you can't really count on having as a director. Some get that chance (Favreau, Branagh, Gunn, Derrickson, etc), but others won't (Joss Whedon, Peyton Reed, whoever directs BP), and I think more and more directors will fall into the latter category as the universe becomes more expansive. When they sign onto the movie, the main actor(s) will be part of the package they sign onto. But they'll still get to cast the people/world around them. Sure that could be seen as a negative, but if you just look at it in a glass half full way instead, it actually kinda makes your job easier, because the actor and their character are well-married already, so that's one less major element toward making the film work that you don't have to worry about.

What I'm curious about is what we'll hear first... The actress or the director?

At the press conference Feige said that we'd get a director/writer announcement before a cast announcement.

I would have taken Maggie Q as May over Wen anyday of the week.

What in the heck does Maggie Q HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING!!!! What are you even taking about? Who here was even talking about replacing the actress that's currently in the role? This comment would've made more sense if we were getting a report for a casting announcement for an Asian female for a role on AoS but it isn't. Do you even know if Agent May's character was supposed to be asian or the actress was simply just cast to play a lead female character who's also a senior agent? Since she is a senior agent it would make sense that's she isn't as young as the other female agents on the show. This age thing is getting old.

What if it's Shailene Woodley? The Divergent series will have wrapped by then and she'll be free for other projects.

Why would anyone want the role to be played by someone college aged?

Because the crusty old buzzards everyone else is selecting can't handle the bone crushing rigors of hanging from wires or falling onto puffy airmats.

Okay, I love Shai, but no. Not for Carol. Nuh uh. The only actress in Shai's age bracket who I could see pull off Carol is Brie Larson, but only because she's got those "old eyes" thing going on, like she's seen a million years and lived every single one of them.

But no to most actresses under the age of 25.

Even if Shailene Woodley were in her 30s I still wouldn't want her for Carol. There's nothing remotely about her that reminds me of Carol.

All true.

I would like it thought if they got the director early this time, like right now and they could give their opinion before she cameos (in the flesh) anywhere else. Directors taking on other established characters should be a glass half-full situation as you say but I don't think the actress will appear in a full on role before Infinity War Part 1 and that is so close (2 months) to the solo Cap Marvel film that the director may as well have weighed in on their choice anyway.

Nothing remotely? That's a bit of an overstatement

I have heard a lot of people complaining about how Marvel hijacks all its movies and does not give their directors freedom or choice (especially DC fan boys)

Personally I like it this way, gives me the assurance than the movie will be good even if the director they get is inexperienced or does not have the perfect track record

I dont want anyone who's over 30 at the present moment because of the age during sequels. CM will be in either GotG2 or A:IW1 before CM1 so im looking for someone in there mid to late 20s at the time of filming of the first movie. That way by the time CM3 and Avengers 6 that person would just be getting to their mid/late 30's at the latest at that point.

Kinda how ATJ will be 29 Olsen will be 29 Scarlett will 35 Chris Hemsworth will be 36 and Chris Evans will be 38 when A:IW2 comes out in 2019. Thats important to consider how old the actors will be at the end of their contracts when trying to guess the starting age of the actor. Most of the Avengers were cast in their 20's except RDJ/Boseman/Ruffalo/Renner so thats something to consider.

But if we have to go with a actor over 30+ it should be Emily Blunt based on the fact she was hired as Widow and turned down Peggy. Third time might be the charm.

Ms. Woodley will be 27 by the time of Captain Marvel. For everyone saying that Katee Sackhoff (who's 34) is "too old" you're now calling somebody who will be pushing 30 at the time, "too young." Keep in mind that Sackhoff will be 38 and Blunt will be 35. That's only a three year difference.

My Top 5 right now are

1. Katee Sackhoff
2. Dree Hemingway
3. Shailene Woodley
4. Emily Blunt
5. Kristen Bell

I'm currently in the , "anyone but Chastain" camp.

1) Strahovski
2) Blunt
3) Chastain
4) Kate Hudson
5) Rosamund Pike

How about Michelle Monoghan? She's a solid performer and even sporting blonde locks these days.

Good pick.

Wow. That is a great pick. (Too bad she's "disqualified" to so many around here because she's 38)

I almost never even consider her for these roles but man, would she fit Carol to a T. She's also got a big qualification under her belt alreafy that raises her stock in my eyes: She's proven she can go toe to toe with RDJ on screen already. She's much more than a pretty face for sure. She could bring tons of charisma and wit along with steel to Carol. She could use the high profile nature of these sort of films too. I kinda think she should be a more well known quantity to the wider public. She still regularly works but it does feel that her rise in Hollywood has stalled a bit. Capt. Marvel would be a great project to put her on the map once and for all.

Thanks, I think she'd be great. As it happens she's also in the upcoming romcom Playing it Cool alongside none other than Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie.

Monaghan is awesome and would be a great Carol.

She did the voice of WW in Justice League War.

UGH SHE WAS MY PICK FOR A FEISTY/SNARKY/MAJORLY DAMAGED JESSICA JONES!!!

But yeah. I want MM in the MCU. She is wonderful and I'm a little bit in love with her.

Indeed, but I'm just gonna go right on back to blocking that film from my memory, thanks. :oldrazz:

And honestly, MM might just be in my top 5 favorite suggestions I've seen for this role yet. Once upon a time, she was my #1 pick for Lois Lane, but I think she could do just as much justice to a character like Carol, too. I also just remembered she was blonde in the first movie I saw her in, Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, where she had a great rapport with RDJ. I'd love to see a KKBB reunion here, and if she gets the chance to dropkick him through the wing of a jumbo jet which they both then have to rescue, fine by me. :D

Rewatching BREAKING BAD…

Um, Anna Gunn for Carol Danvers. 46 isn't too old, right?!?! ;)
