Who else was considered to play Eddie Brock/Venom?

I think the best person for Venom if they went with an older person with a bigger physique would be Dominic Purcell from Prison Break.

we all have our opinions and I think that guy is beaten by a mile by topher grace. topher rules!!!:sym:.

I heard David Borreanz the guy from Bones, Buffy, and Angel.... was considered.

I personally think he would've been a great eddie brock. Definetly a physically much different person from Tobey.

Although I am very happy with topher grace playing venom. He's an amazing actor, "Scrawny" physique which goes well into the seduction of venom and the power he eventually acquires.

that would have been an awsome choice for eddie

as an angel/buffy fan it pains me to say that id still prefer topher

sam automiatically chose Grace because he thought he was the right guy to play eddie brock. I think sam made a great choice.

I do like Grace as an actor, and I actually think he would have been a great Peter Parker/Spidey (he's perfect for the smart ass part) But I have to say I don't think he was the right guy to play Brock....just because Eddie Brock in the film is probably going to be very different from the actual Eddie Brock.

But I really would have loved Topher as Spidey...but then again, he wouldn't have gotten to show off his smart assiness anywyas with the way they write spidey:csad:

I would have liked him as Eddie. He has the square jaw, the brooding presence and the physique he had in Blade 3 was pretty impressive.

He would've been great if they had been doing an Eddie closer to the comics. Since Eddie's going to be an opposite peter though, Topher was the better choice.

To heck with Eddie. Let's have Lindsay Lohan play Venom. She's pissed off enough and psycho enough to kill James Franco right now!

He was only considered to be brock by speculative fanboys. However, he was officially considered for the role of spider-man back in the late 90s to early 2000s.

I'm also a Buffy/ Angel fan. I think it really depends on what kind of portrayal of Eddie Brock they wanted.

I don't think he'd fit the role Topher seems to be playing.

But if they wanted a more classic approach David would of been your man. Anytime he is Angelus he reminds so much of Eddie it's quite scary! It's a real shame because I would have loved to see David in a mainsteam film and 'make it' for real.

Hey but as far as Sam's Eddie, Topher was the right decision. I'm pretty happy with him and Venom is also my favourite villain. Is is blasphemous to say like, Topher, Venom in the same sentence?:p

funny thing is he actualy read for Superman Returns when they were casting....

some of the casting people really liked him...he woulod of been very different from Routh.

He seems to nice for Venom.... but Topher just seems right Good Company showed off some of his acting for sure...but Traffic showed that the kid can play evil

If you could try catch repeats of the 2nd Half of Season 2 of BtVS. He really shows his versatility and talent as an actor. He would of been totally right for classic Eddie.

However he wouldn't fit the bill for Sam Raimi's Eddie Brock and Topher was a good choice.

P.S> Did he really read for SR and impress? Damn, that guy is just plain unlucky. I heard that when they were casting for Spider-man 1 and Batman Begins he was considered for both title roles. How unlucky can one be. Feel sorry for him being on Bones. He should of gone on to better things after Angel. He deserved to.

guys, it's not just about looks here, it's about acting as well. I think topher has both the looks and ability to play eddie brock.

He doesn't look like Eddie Brock in the comic books. No resemblence at all.

Topher Grace was a fan favorite to play Peter Parker after Tobey Maguire left.

actually he does. the spikey hair, and maybe the cloths with the tie that he wears to the daily bugle.

Spikey blonde hair and a tie do not make an Eddie Brock. You think if you put them on Tom Green, he'd be a good Eddie Brock??

No.

You know what this thread needs? Some Tangled Web. :p

true, it's also the acting ability to play eddie brock that counts. not only that but they need to have the right built, now topher was skinny in "that 70's show" but he has buffed up since then so he might not be as huge as he was in the comics but certainly is close to that.

I thought he was much better in Traffic than In Good Company...that was kind of a lame movie.

I'm sorry but you must have not seen my previous post. I said that Boreanez had the look and the ability to nail Eddie Brock. Just watch S2 of BtVS and then come back to me. I also never questioned Topher, I said he fits the bill for Sam Raimi's version of Eddie Brock.

Who the hell cares if he's buff or not, with the symbiote he can throw a freakin' 18-wheeler half a block? It's why I never understood making a reporter built like Hulk Hogan.

^ exactly, eddie brock being not that buff doesn't really matter in the movies. oh and the future, I did miss read your post my bad.

im actually watching it right now

S2 I think is on a par with S3 and S5 as the best Seasons. I caught S2 myself on repeats awhile ago and totally forgot how good David was.

Visionary, we're not saying that Topher would have to be built like the hulk to be Venom. I've actually said repeatedly I have no qualms with Topher as Eddie. I simply feel that David Boreanez would of been very well adapted for the role as an actor and physically. If he was considered then I'm obviously right. That is when they were still thinking about what Eddie they wanted, they chose the opposite to Classic Eddie and have the right man in Topher. If they went with Classic Eddie, David would of been more than capable.

he was awsome in season 2 of angel

Yeah coincidentally that Season is on repeats right now. Hadn't seen it in so long that I couldn't really remembeer how exactly it went. Each episode increases in brilliance and it is also probably the strongest season in terms of individual episodes and main plot. Perhaps he is even more like Eddie/ Venom in that season because like Venom, he's not pure evil and has a 'Lethal Protector' vibe to him.
