Homecoming Who should be the Villain in Spider-Man (2017)? - Part 4

Plus D'Onofrio as Kingpin in the big screen movie universe wouldn't work especially because not only is he on Netflix right now as Kingpin but apparently Netflix characters can't cross over on to the big screen at least that's what I heard

Plus even if they were able to and that is a very big if they would have to tone down Kingpin a lot

Kingpin isn't going to break Spidey's skull open with a car door. I don't understand this argument. It changes little about the character. He should be more restrained at this point anyway, and his role in the film should be less physical and more behind the scenes criminal manipulation. He doesn't need to fight Spidey one on one, he'd lose immediately. It would be cool to merge your best character with your best MCU villain and Netflix property.

^^I like that tone with Kingpin, doing what he does best, being the Kingpin of Crime.

Let's see about SDCC. I'd say don't steal Thor's thunder and don't steal Dr. Strange's focus, but it feels a lot of pieces are coming into place.

Kingpin is still in jail and said himself that he plans to keep it that way in season 2. Doubt he'll be in the movie

Here's my suggestion:

Film opens with a break-in to a former S.H.I.E.L.D. weapons depot. Although we learn that some ordinance was stolen, the real problem is that the infiltrators have made copies of SHIELD and Stark Tech R&D files that include schematics for tactical gear and Avengers equipment.

We then catch up with Peter Parker, who is taking full advantage of his new outfit (see CA3:CW!) to help "look out for the little guys" in NYC. We see some kind of cool action scene that lets him really flex his powers - maybe a skyscraper window-washing team has their gear malfunction, or a cell phone tower collapses - and requires him to pay attention to saving both the victims and the on-lookers.

The press is working on overdrive to provide coverage of this new “enhanced” superhero, and while many are thankful that he seems to be protecting the city, there is growing concern from the independent news outlet - The Daily Bugle - that he is operating separately from the Avengers and that he could be a threat to citizen and justice department safety.

After getting home and checking in with Aunt May, who we learn is struggling as a single adoptive parent to ensure that Pete is getting what he needs academically and emotionally, we learn that Pete is also working diligently on a new IB Physics project with one of his Midtown High School peers - Charlie Weiderman. While talking about the upcoming Homecoming Prom, Pete confesses to have a crush on his classmate, Mary Jane Watson (I'd personally love to use Gwen Stacy here, but I think that Emma Stone did such a great job that the MCU will go back to using MJ) and is thinking about asking her to go with him.

Via his new webshooter tech/communicator, Pete learns of another suspected break-in – this time at tech company operating in downtown. As he webs his way over to the scene, we learn via the police that the suspect is none other than our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man! Someone fitting the exact description of Spidey is spotted by the police special operations team, and we see the suspect assault a few of the police officers and then easily escape into the night. Pete is too late to arrive and assist, and realizes that he is now a wanted suspect.

This is all the Bugle needs to run a slam-piece – the owner of the Bugle J. Jonah Jameson takes a personal issue with this costumed vigilante – and even the police admit that maybe it’s time to bring Spider-Man in for questioning and detention.

Pete gets home to find Tony hanging out with Aunt May again. He’s checking in with Pete and tells him that he’s here to investigate the missing SHIELD tech and to understand why Spider-Man would be involved. Pete assures him that he’s not behind it, and Tony tells Pete to avoid any more appearances as Spider-Man until things get sorted out.

We learn that Pete’s recent grades have started to dip a bit, and after awkwardly interacting with Mary Jane at school and risking his chance to ask her to the prom, he sticks up for Charlie and gets pushed around by popular jock Flash Thompson. His physics teacher Mr. Warren assures Peter that life is full of ups and downs, and that he’ll never regret taking action when he knows that it is the right thing to do. Mr. Warren also tells Peter that he’s looking forward to the IB project submission.

Tony reviews footage of the break-ins and is astounded to see Spider-Man committing the crimes. He receives a request from Secretary of State Ross to immediately end his investigation and that the US military and intelligence teams – in conjunction with the NYC police – would be bringing Spider-Man into custody. The Avengers - by dictate of the governing body authorized by the Sokovia Accords – are ordered to remain out of the city and away from the situation until it is resolved. Ross reasons that it is in Tony’s best interest to be away from any other fugitive enhanced. Tony immediately contacts Peter and tells him... he's on his own.

Meanwhile, from within a lab located in the outskirts of NYC, we learn that the true perpetrator is Dmitri Nikolayevich - a Russian who is stealing military information and proprietary design and then sells this information to the highest bidder. His own technology and his partnership with lab-owner and tech genius Spencer Smythe permits him to impersonate anyone, and his recent acquisition of high-tech grappling gear has enabled him to reasonably impersonate Spider-Man. Dmitri plans his ultimate prize – full access to the Avengers schematics. If he is able to break into the Avengers NY tower, he can steal information about Avengers technology including Iron Man’s armor, the Falcon’s wingsuit, Quinjet tech, etc. The price for this info is too high to resist – he will break into the now unoccupied Avengers tower as Spider-Man and will steal this information.

As Pete puts more and more time into tracking down the villain who is framing him, escaping from the police who now think he's a menace, and hiding his secret life as Spider-Man from his increasingly curious Aunt May, he finds that living the hero life might not be all it's cracked up to be.

Will he be able to prove his innocence, put the Chameleon behind bars, and still make it to the prom in time? STAY TUNED, TRUE BELIEVERS...!!!

That's pretty good dude.

Its not that they can't, its that crossover between TV and Netflix and movies is hard to do in a meaningful manner, because of the radically different production schedules. *Somebody* ends up having to guess at where the plot will be, unless a heck of a lot of effort is expended to make it work.

Which is moot, because the Kingpin as he exists in the MCU would be a fairly terrible Spider-man villain. Complete and utter tonal mismatch.

No seriously, if Marvel and Sony are serious about sharing the MCU with Spider-Man, make him your Spidey villain. You don't need to build the villain up, since he's already appeared in other media, it gives a tie in to the greater MCU, and Kingpin is a classic Spidey villain.

He is, by far, more associated with Daredevil. What's more, the actual incarnation to exist in the MCU *would not work as a Spider-man villain*. His capabilities, interests, themes, and tone are not relevant or workable for a Spider-man movie. You'd have to change him so much that he, one, wouldn't work as a Daredevil villain anymore, and two, wouldn't be recognizable as the character who gained attention as one of Marvel's great villain successes.

Not everyone has seen the Netflix series though

I would love Kingpin from Daredevil show in MCU Spider-Man movies. He so great. Best Marvel villain.

D'Onofrio's Kingpin is good enough for the big screen. I say go for it. Furthermore they currently get $0 from any Spider-Man movies because of the deal they did a few years back. Unless Sony is paying a fee for it they won't get any benefit from further Iron Man exposure in this movie, but they'll get a lot of benefits from having Daredevil or Kingpin in this movie.

Man, it looks like I may have been close with my thoughts on the script, though we're gonna get Vulture and Tinkerer instead of Chameleon and Smythe!

I like the addition of Shocker...hope he has some impact moving forward, in whatever his role in the film is.

D'Onofrio's Kingpin is good enough for the big screen. I say go for it. Furthermore they currently get $0 from any Spider-Man movies because of the deal they did a few years back. It's give and take, they were allowed to use Spider-Man at zero cost for Civil War which DEFINITELY boosted ticket sales. And if SONY is financing the movie, they have to pay RDJ's 30-40m bill as far as I'm concerned. Marvel is just giving them the rights to use him in Homecoming, as SONY did for Civil War.

I agree that opting to use Daredevil and the Kingpin would be smart for the sequel. It gives the audience something else that SONY has never been able to offer Spider-Man fans in the past. However, that ties in to Marvel's TV run, and they'd want to be able to use Spidey again in the show, or more in their other movies. Not sure, but it's a teeter-totter effect.

I do not forsee Kingpin ever popping up in a Spider-Man movie, and honestly, he doesn't need to. Spider-Man has more than enough villains we haven't seen yet.

It would be interesting. They'd have to write a compelling way to have them fight each other. Kingpin wasn't close to a match for Daredevil in season 1. There's no way Kingpin would be close to a match for Spidey who was shown in Civil War to be a monster power-wise.

The MCU Spider-Man would slaughter Kingpin. I think at best they should do what TSSM did and use Tombstone instead.

Woo! Yes sir. Agreed. I really wanna see a full suit. The two Shockers only have yellow-quilted accessories so far.

Yes sir he would lol.

Kingpin could easily be in a SM movie. He just wouldn't be a physical threat. Which is fine. I personally always thought it was weird that comic kingpin could kinda fight Spidey anyway, given he's just a really strong normal human.

Have Kingpin be the behind the scenes mastermind and that would be great. Honestly, it's when he's scariest. I'd love to see that.

I don't really see why he'd have to be significantly toned down to appear in a movie when Spidey's rogues gallery includes guys like Carnage. And even if they're going with a friendly tone for Spidey for now, it doesn't mean all of his movies will be like that. They could have the series mature as it progresses a la Harry Potter. Or a la the comics themselves which got darker and more serious over time with things like Gwen dying. I liked how the cartoon had when it came to an actual fight Kingpin using Hobgoblin or Smythe or spider slayers or whatever to actually fight Spider-Man, for the most part. Just don't have him be as on screen violent.

Something new regarding the villains of the franchise;

Now that Spider-Man is back home at Marvel and part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it would seem that it’s only a matter of time before the MCU introduces one of the comic book universe’s biggest villains in Norman Osborn. However, according to producers Eric Carroll and Amy Pascal, it’s unlikely that we’ll be seeing the Green Goblin as part of the new series of movies.

“We want to tread lightly with what’s been done in the past films as far as The Osbornes and things like that,” said producer Carroll. “So I don’t think we’re going directly down that route. We figured honestly if there was a way to do this movie without mentioning anyone who has been in past films, with the exception of staples like Flash Thompson and Aunt May, that that might be a good thing to do.”

“We’ve recycled a lot,” added Pascal. “I think there are certain characters I don’t think there’s anything more to say about them right this minute? I mean, I don’t know how many more times we can do the Green Goblin. I’ve certainly tried to do it fifty.”

For his part, new web-slinger Tom Holland doesn’t seem too concerned about recycling when asked which villains he’s like to see his Spider-Man facing: ““Well, I love Doc Ock. I think Spider-Man 2 is one of the greatest superhero movies ever made. But I think Venom is someone I’d love to kick the crap out of one day.”

Looks like the Goblins won't be showing up any time soon in this franchise. I love Holland's comments about Spider-Man 2 and Doc Ock.

Was talking to Hello2016 and a team up with Frogman against White Rabbit seems like a good direction. So many different actors could play frogman.
They could even do the terrible two storyline with White Rabbit.
