Atlanteans will stay in the Aquaman movie and maybe they'll make an appearance in a Wonder Woman too. They have no place as the villains of a JL movie. How disappointing that would be...

Since Darkseid isn't going to be seen until a sequel, Brainiac really is the only logical choice for the villian in the first JL movie...it just makes to much sense...Brainiac brings the required threat level that is needed for the league...he's never been used before in a movie...plus with contracts, actor availability issues, and the 2 or 3 years it takes to make these special effect laden blockbuster movies and bring them to the masses this would be a perfect time to showcase Brainiac...I doubt there will be another Superman solo movie with Cavill as well.

^What? Why wont there be another solo MOS movie with Cavill? He is contracted for 3 and if this makes big bucks they are going to want to carry on. Not to mention of all the dates released by WB for CBM's in the next few years, MOS2 is strongly rumoured to be one of them.

I say save Brainiac for a MOS sequel, JL have bigger fish to fry.

^It takes 2 to 3 years for these type of movies to be made and brought to theaters so JL2 will probably not be seen until 2020 or 2021...considering your dealing with an ensemble cast with JL you have to take into account contracts and cast availability...it's true Cavill is signed up for a 3 movie commitment so with the JL movie he will have filled out his commitment...WB might sign Cavill up for a single JL2 movie but I doubt they'll do another 3 movie deal.

I think in order to distinguish him from Thanos, they should haveDarkseid do something badass. My idea is, Bats and Supes send Doomsday to the moon at the end of BvS, and in a post-credits scene, we see a hand effortlessly pick up a struggling Doomsday, and then a dark red force fry the crap out of him. His dead body falls as the camera zooms out to show Darkseid, in front of a Boom Tube, maybe with Desaad and Kalibak to either side, as he looks to Earth and says something like "This is what it takes to nearly defeat your heroes? ... Pitiful."

The Devil's in the details.

MCU have gotten alien invasions and mechanical tyrants covered exiling all incarnations of Brainiac except Milton Fine to "knock off" status. Too much the case of Marvel's Darkseid clone Thanos getting on screen first to use him.

The JLA need to fight the forces of Hell to skirt this issue. Neron, Blaze, Asmodel, the Demons Three, Felix Faust etc.

The Crime Syndicate is an evil alternate universe version of the JL. They can be really cool when written well (JL: Earth 2 is pretty awesome) but they usually come off pretty cheesy and it would be tough to make them work on film.

Legion of Doom for the first movie, definitely. I wouldn't have really said it was probable before, but Suicide Squad has opened the floodgates for villain team-ups. I'd love to see a Legion composed of Lex Luthor, Joker, Metallo, Black Manta, Grodd, Circe and whoever else they want to add to the mix. No need for Sinestro since GL probably won't be in JL(at least until the end), and I find him an odd character to be in the Legion anyway.

First film, Brainiac ( its discovered at the end that he was working for a much bigger threat. He was here prepping the earth for an invasion....)

Second, Darkseid. full on invasion, parademons galore. fights and damage on every continent.

If they do feel the need to make a connection between the two, I'd rather they do Brainiac preserving cultures from Darkseid.
