either of these two, i think evangeline could really do it though, just dye her hair a dirty blonde colour and she'd be great

The thing is, the only way Milla Jovovich knows how to play a "tough" female character is to come across as a total hard@$$. I do not want Samus to be a hard@$$. I want her to come across as someone who appears strong but actually has a lot of vulnerability underneath... I think that in a lot of ways, the armor she wears to protect herself should be symbolic of emotional armor that she wears to protect her emotional vulnerability.
I've been dabbling around with a Metroid fan script for quite a while, and so I had a chance to really delve into Samus's character and try to figure out who she is. In the games she doesn't really have a lot of character, but in the script I was writing, I really wanted to change that, and I hope that whoever ends up making a Metroid movie doesn't take the easy "Paul Anderson" route and just make her into an un-likeable hard@$$ who just shoots lots of stuff with a sexy scowl on her face.
A long while back when Terminator 3 had just come out, I thought Kristanna Loken could be perfect for Samus. She had the perfect look, but unfortunately, she couldn't act. She was good at playing a machine, which unfortunately does not help much when playing human characters. She's sci-fi channel fodder, and now I am completely uninterested in seeing her near a Metroid movie.
Rachael Taylor shows promise though. She as perfectly likeable in Transformers, and she seems capable enough of giving personality to her characters. Michael Bay movies aren't exactly known for their nuanced actor performances, but she still did quite well. She was able to play a strong woman who was able to have some sass without being annoying. I would definitely like to see what she could do as Samus.
HELL YES!
I'm getting tired of seeing Milla in every frickin' action chick role.
she could work
i'm a Milla fan but i do think having her helm another video game series is overkill. Milla should do what Christian Bale is doing-- balancing careers between fun movies (like RE) and serious roles (like The Messenger).

Jovovich can't act...
...I like the Rachel Taylor idea or maybe Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Nah to SMGJovovich can't act and her being involved seems to dictate that hack of a husband of hers is also involved (Paul Anderson) and he should never touch this movie with a ten foot pole.

I was wondering when someone would suggest this talentless so called actress. What about Beckinsale? I do like Evangeline Lilly as well.
You knock on Milla and then go on to suggest Sarah Michelle Gellar?
Gellar has some acting chops. She just chooses really, really, REALLY bad scripts more often than not. Milla on the other hand and I've seen all of her movies, couldn't play a wooden, bad, actress if she tried.
If you think Milla is such a terrible actress then why have you seen all of her films? Sounds like BS to me. I'll go ahead and assume that when you say "all of her movies" you actually mean Resident Evil 1-3 and Ultraviolet.
And I'm sorry but anyone claiming that SMG is a quality actress obviously has no idea what they are talking about. Her career highlights consists of Buffy....and nothing else. And Buffy was mediocre at best (and that is being generous).
Mind listing what you have seen then other than the obvious RE movies and Ultraviolet?
And once again, Gellar IS NOT an okay actress and she has no range, unless you consider ****ty cheerleaders, Buffy, two god aweful Scooby Doo movies, and some forgettable American remakes of Japanese horror films range. Oh and don't forget her pornstar character from Southland Tales which was appearently so bad that it was filmed in 2005 and put on the shelf until 2007.
Oh and refresh my memory, which of the two do directors and producers think is good enough to work along side people like Dustin Hoffman, Faye Dunaway, John Malkovich, Tchéky Karyo, Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, Gary Oldman, Ian Holm, Mel Gibson, Denzel Washington, and Adrien Brody?
Yeah, I guess Milla really is ****ty if she is able to get main roles in movies featuring all of those terrible actors.
That doesn't mean anything.
It just so happened that she got casted along side those actors. When she was cast, nobody was thinking "Damn, we need to cast Milla with them. She really creates a great ensemble cast with them." (which almost never happens unless you have certain stature in Hollywood). Milla auditioned for a role, and landed the part.
