Homecoming Who should reboot villain be? (Poll Version) - Part 1

If they do go the Green Goblin route, then by all means Norman has to be first.

I don't think so. There is so many good actors out there. And I am sure any one could do as well as dafoe was. Like jason Isaac or what's that guys name from lord of the rings films the human guy. And others I can't think of at the moment.

Jason Isaac ... interesting choice. What other villains could you see being introduced into the reboot series? I hope they don't try and include too many villains in one film.

Michael C. Hall for Norman Osborn and Gabriel Basso for Harry

I said it before I don't want goblin ock or even lizard right off the bat for head villains. Be there yes in pre villain forms as support guys.

I like to see others like mysterio, shocker, kraven, vulture, scorpion get a chance to shine before going with ock goblin again.

I could settle for Scorpion as a head villain and I'd love to see Shocker at some point but not right off the bat.

ya like others have said, i could see a mysterio/shocker combo. Mysterio as the main headline villain, shocker as a more supporting player/minor threat.

Scorpion i could easily see support a lead villain role, and keep it like comics that JJ is a part of his creation, and hate. So we can get a good play on jj screwing things up and spidey having to save his butt to his distain. And scorpion is a solid villain too.

True.

What about Venom? I couldn't see him in the first film because of the amount of ground that needs to be covered in order to introduce him but what about future films and, if so, what about a possibility of Carnage also?

Carnage is a possibility. They'll have to take it easy on the killing though. Do most of it off screen. And the ones thy do on screen can't be too bloddy because lets be honest as long as Spider-Man is in it kids will be watching.

Personally I rather leave venom out of the picture for a long haul. But ideally I am sure both marvel and sony would like to see him used. If he shows up in a possible first trilogy I rather leave it to 3rd film.

You can still get away with things with pg 13 rating. Heck remember ock killing the doctors in sm2. Shadows and some on screen death can be done.

Exactly what I thought of.

Edit: 'cept the Venom part. I'd love to see Venom. Just notin the first 3 films. Preferably, the blck suit in the third. Then after that they can do Venom or whatever they want.

Ya I like venom but I don't want to see them jump right to him. I agree when we get there. We need a full film with the symbiote on pete. He loses it at the end. And then we get venom.

But I still rather get some other big time spidey foes first.

I really hope that they just go with Mysterio for this film, I'm so over boring rehashes of things that we have already seen and villains that have emotional backstories.

We should all be hoping for a villain who is done cinematic justice and that can break the mold off the previous films.

I think they need to do the Venom arc properly, but I have a feeling they'll want to stay away from anything Sony touched.

If they did though, it would make sense to have a movie where he discovers the symbiote and uses it to fight off another villain, focus on him struggling with power then ultimately finding a scientific way to separate himself from it, and end on it finding Brock. Horror material when you think about it. There has been some speculation that Peter could find the symbiote in Infinity War, presumably with Thanos and/or his minions bringing it down with them. If they're doing a movie per year, that would tie in nicely.

With the black suit, if it's inserted into the reboot, I think they should display the symbiote's strength a lot more. We saw it a little bit, but we need more. We need Peter confused by his own strength - not an emo, dark turn of his strength - actual more strength.

For example, he could go to try and catch a car, which was flying through the sky, when in actually fact he smacks it back in the direction it came with the back of his hand.

Nice list of villains. As for if we see symbiote we could easily have him go to banner and stark to remove it. Play it like the comics did with reed.

But how should Mysterio be characterized? Would he be a ego maniacal bank robber with who commits crimes in an over the top manner or a sadistic mind breaker who wants to destroy Spider-Man in the most cruel way possible? I think Mysterio has been characterized as both of these things in the past.

That's why you save him for the Agent Venom spinoff :woot:

I'd definitly go with the ego-maniac "thief for hire. We've had more than enough villains with a personal vendetta against Spidey. Taking a break for smeone like Mysterio would be nice.

I'dk how I go with mysterio. I still like to see him. Since he is a unique villain. And a totally different type of villain then we have seen with goblin ock sandman and lizard and electro so far.

But here's a good question, how would a Mysterio who just robs banks be interesting enough to carry movie? What are the stakes of the film, what happens if Spider-Man fails to stop Mysterio? The banks are insured and the money is marked, frankly if that is all Mysterio is doing, Spidey should let the cops handle him. I also feel Mysterio never made sense as a bank robber, any money he got from robbing banks would not cover the expenses he is creating with his special effects tech.

How do you build up towards a climax and have material for a 3 act film, if Mysterio just robs banks for 2 hours?

People keep on saying they don't want a sympathetic villain for the sequel, but it seems like they don't want a truly evil either, so what's left, a rather generic criminal? An evil villain is unsympathetic, some generic criminal is just forgettable. A mind breaker Mysterio is at least a scary prospect, a generic criminal just seems like a low stakes affair, more suited for a filler episode of a TV show, not a cinematic experience.

Also let's face it, most Spidey villains have a grudge against him and want revenge on him. In Mysterio's second appearance, he was using mind games to trick Spidey into revealing his secret identity.

To me the thing that is interesting about Mysterio is that he psychological foe, not a physical one, but if he doesn't bother targeting Spidey on psychological, he just seems far less interesting, his M.O is not being used to its fullest.

But maybe I am being too quick judge, in your opinion how would a bank robbing Mysterio be compelling enough to carry a movie?

I always had like a idea for a Spider-Man franchise that would have Doc Ock and Shocker as the villains for the first film, it seems like it isn't gonna happen which is disappointing but I think if they do Mysterio there is a lot they can do with it creatively if they're smart about it.

Mysterio and Shocker is nice. If they want to do the Sinister Six they can do two villains per film(One major, one minor) max. Then in the fourth assemble all Six. It's the quickest way without looking like they're rushing to conclusions.

I think the Sinister Six should consist of, Mysterio, Shocker, Vulture, Scorpion, Kraven and Doc Ock.
