Why all the hate over the flag shot?

Now we're attacking people's spelling. Weak.

Okay, man, you got me, I really believe that a shot of the American flag in a Spider-Man has annoyed the ENTIRE world!!1!11!!! Nevermind that the original quote was in italics...

Well, now that we have that settled...

Okay man, but to avoid any future confusion on your part, please be aware that the usage of italics invokes emphasis and exaggeration.

Oh, I know that it didn't literally annoy 'the whole world'. What you really meant is that it annoyed YOU. And not only because it was cheesy or out of place. Your sentiments are perfectly clear to anyone who isn't a complete phlebian.

But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Here's your original comment - The question is; what purpose did it serve? The answer is; none, other than to annoy the rest of the world (y'know all that stuff that isn't in America)

So what were you trying to 'emphasize', fg? What were you really trying to say? This should be good.

In other words,

"He started it!"

No, in other words, I am now stooping to your level!

That it could annoy a lot of people, which is true.

Ok, Mr. Vague, that's fine. I'm not pursuing this any further. I'll let you off with what little dignity you have left. You failed to reiterate your reason that it would annoy 'a lot of people' in that original post but now you'll just say "because it was cheesy" or "because it would have been better in the Spidey day scene" when anyone with any sense can tell exactly what your intention is from reading your original comment.

w/e. piss off.

Movies hardly have patriotism anymore and I'm glad that one superhero franchise still has the balls to proudly say "I'm american," so no I don't have a problem with it.

Superman Returns' 'Truth, Justice and other stuff' was the biggest cop out ever.

I agree 100%.

I agree 100%.

LLook obviously a lot of people are gonna find the shot daft, and a lot of people are gonna say "Yeah, we need more pro-american imagery like that!" but is it fair to say that in say 10 years time people will watch these movies, see that shot in Spider-man 3 and theink the same way about it as people think about Rambo III nowadays?

At least when they watch Superman Returns (for all it's faults) they'll at least be able to say, "Well at least the film makers were able to acknowledge America's changing role in the world and the relevance of the world's modern political climate when trying to update Superman and what the character actually stands for from global audience's perspective. A bave decison in the small details but an intellectual choice none-the-less..."

But maybe you're right. *****IN COP OUT!!! WHOOO-RAAAAA!!!

i've just come back home from seeing the movie for the first time and on the bus this was the shot i was thinking about. I disliked it for various reasons a)it felt like he was stealing superman's thing by being america's poster boy b) It was so damn obvious its like he stopped in front of it knowing it is the 'iconic' shot c) it was cheesy d) hasn't every superhero done this at some point? It was a reaction of 'not again' e) you know you are selling this movie around the world where america isn't favoured right now the last thing some people want to see is a shot that smug. Maybe a different insert could have been shot for those few seconds?

They should take out the New York city name too.
The last thing I want to see is that it's suppose to take place in an American city. :whatever:

you already got your wish. international trailers and tv spots have been showing the scene with the flag totally cut out and replaced with the sky as a background. in fact, i've seen numerous american tv spots where the flag is erased. apparently you can't even show the american flag in america. i wish the marketing department would've grown some balls instead of pandering to the hippie liberals.

I'm from Chicago, I feel left out and threatened!!!

O say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

What can I say? It's a beautiful thing!

Next thing you know these loonies will want to change Spider-Man's costume color because the red and blue tighties resemble too much of Americana.

i don't know why its being done now that its on every print of the movie around the world. I also don't understand why its been taken out in america.

I'm a very patriotic person, but I didn't really like this part because it came off as a little cheesey. As for all the other patriotic things in the trilogy I really like that stuff. Personally, I love the scene in SM1 where the New Yorkers through trash and stuff at GG. Its sad that some, maybe even most, Americans don't feel like that anymore. No wonder everyone hates us. We hate us.

*Good lord I can't read through this whole thing.

I loved it and got off on it. It's very realistic to have an American Flag on a construction site. Usually on the crane....but anyway...

I don't think it has so much with the country as much as the current adminstration attitude.

No, I agree. I think you can be proud of your personal achievements, but to be proud of (in the case of BrklynsVeryOwn) 'being black' is akin to me saying that I'm proud of having two arms.

If you think about it, it is rather silly.
:whatever:

So you cannot be proud of who you are or what you are?

Come...on.

Seriously. Come On!!! :o

Well no, not really. Well, you can, but you wouldn't have done anything to warrant it.
So you're telling me in order to warrant pride....you must have done something to do so? You are simply stating, in effect, that you can only be proud of something you've -done- rather than something you are, or have become out of circumstance...you cannot be proud of such?

I have no idea what the ideals of this country have become.

But hey, to each his own.

That is the basis of this country's value right?

:o
