Guardians of the Galaxy Why can't Thanos gather the stones himself?

Ooooooooooor he will make a heroic hopeless stand against him, with speech and all, like in that comic.

They can't either I don't think

I agree but they still have a better chance than Cap.

I don't think it will be just Cap alone, but I think the finishing blow will be dealt by him. It's symbolic

And what weapon would he have that would be capable of dealing the finishing blow? If anyone has to deal it, I personally hope it's Thor, because given his skill set and hammer it would make the most sense IMO.

This I would be cool with.

I'm kinda imaging a scenario where Cap lifts Mjolnir and defeats Thanos with it

Doesn't settle anything. Link it or quote it. I thought he confirmed it as an Easter egg

Fiege: "But everything in that vault and everything you might see if you pause and look behind people’s shoulders or as the Einherjar soldiers are walking past – everyone of those has a story and it is from the books. There is Thanos’ glove, or certainly a glove that looks like it could be Thanos’ gauntlet, is in there for sure."

That would require Mjolnir to be capable of defeating Thanos. If so, why didn't Thor already do it?

The Avengers are going to win in the end, certainly. But its not going to be by force of arms.

He's saying that all the items in the vault have a story from the comics, and is an artifact from the comics. he simply says the glove is among them. Never mentioned anything regarding canon. It's "in there for sure". Among the easter eggs

He said its in there. Not "its in there.....among the easter eggs."

Regarding what canon? Easter egg or not, everything presented on screen in the films is "canon" to the MCU's reality. Howard the Duck was an Easter egg... and also canon, since he undeniably exists in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as presented.

Either the glove in Odin's vault is the Infinity Gauntlet or it's a replica. Based on the best evidence, I would posit that the Infinity Gauntlet is indeed in Odin's vault.
