Superman Returns Why did Lois go inside Lex's boat?

The real question is why didn't Lois find out who owns the estate before going out there, find out it belongs to Lex, and stay away!? (Again, she is a woman who gets into trouble, and that is why she needs Superman)

Also, why wouldn't it have made the news that Lex married that old coot before she died? I mean, come on.. a reverse Ana Nicole? That would have made the news fo' sure!

I think this is the best question, and one I cannot really think of an answer to. Lois was able to track down the source of the blackout from one place to the other, but was unable to find out whose MANSION (???) was right there on top of the spot? Plus I am sure some old rich broad dying who was married to LEX LUTHOR would have made the papers which...WOW...Lois works for!

It would have been more believeable if Lex simply assumed another identity. Wasn't he very popular (or notorious?) after the events of Superman I and II? And I am sure the old lady and/or her family would have heard of him, and how he tried to KILL people! After all, Lois did state that Luthor hadn't made the HEADLINES in a while!

Maybe I missed something here? I loved the film, but plotholes do not escape me so easily.

Ok, to sorta answer myself here, the old lady did mention Lex's past, and that he could change or be capable of good.

But still, some old rich lady dying and her widower / former criminal getting all her loot would have made the news, as the family would have no doubt made a stink and probably pursued legal action.

Again, how was Lois supposed to know there was any danger? For her it was probably just gonna be a quick Q&A wid the owners...

Okay, something that happened in this particular place caused the ENTIRE EASTERN SEABOARD to have a blackout, and she doesn't think about the fact that there might be something dangerous happening there????

I mean, are there regular things that a person can do to cause a plane in mid-air to lose all power along with an entire coastline? Wouldn't she realize that something of some kind of power and possible danger might reside in a place that caused such a catastrophe???

Yeah, she thought:

"So, the owner of this particular place was able to do something to cause a massive blackout of formerly unseen proportions. Sounds safe to me!! So safe, in fact, that I'm gonna bring my kid with me!!!"

Oh, and NOT bring her cellphone! Do'oh!!

This whole section is completely stupid (like the rest of the movie isn't right?) it makes no sense at all under any circumstances. Not only do they have no grasp on Superman but they really have no grasp on real life either. Why didn't the power company or somebody investigate a power outage this huge in the first place. I mean... it's mind numbing how bad this is. It's like they're intentionallly telling us how ****ing stupid we are. Seriously, WB deserves to file bankruptcy if they give these three ****nuts more money for this.

It was poor writing that made Lois sneak aboard a potentially hostile ship with her son. Lois can be reckless, but she's not stupid. She knew something was up. If she didn't know, then it was uncharacteristic of her. If she did know, then this wasn't just a case of Lois not looking before she leaped...this was a case of blatant child endangerment, which also makes her look bad. Anyway you look at it, the whole scene was a disservice to her character.
