Have you ever had a girl come onto you, only to realize she has no real interest in you? In school, did your crush flirt with you to get favours? In a bar, does a girl ever give you the flirty eye and brush her boobs against ya and then ask you to buy her a drink, and then before you know it she's kissing a different guy?

I've had the first two experiences, and a variation of a girl at a bar flirting to get something experience. Do you think there is a double standard in society? A guy goes out to try and get a one night stand and lies through his teeth to get it - he's a sleazeball. A girl gives the false impression that she's interested in you just so she'll get free booze - more acceptable?

Well, let's look at certain mating behaviors in nature.

When you're dealing with longer gestation periods, especially in animals that that

1) Have fewer offspring per gestation

and

2) Consequently invest far more energy in birthing/raising said offspring...

...females can actually be fairly picky. They tend to control who they mate with. They choose their mates based on traits that they deem desirable. They hold the reproductive cards.


Take that one step further in humans, where the females inherently realize this and have the cognitive capacity to use this to their advantage. In my opinion, it's the logical conclusion to a behavior that has its roots in nature.
