Why does everyone hate The Batman?

I didn't watch as much of it because this was around the time when I was a kid "growing out" of cartoons but I remember thinking it was all right. I went back and watched a few episodes in season one and liked them. That Riddler episode is actually very strong. Kickass theme though.

Yeah, I think it's a solid show. Watchable, but not spectacular. I always enjoyed when the crossover episodes with Batman teaming up with other superheroes. I enjoyed it when Robin got all excited about Hal Jordan being a test pilot.

Considering we weren't seeing a lot of Hal Jordan animation at the time as it was pre-live action movie, it was cool to see him in The Batman as a recurring character.

I enjoyed it when it was on. I liked that the show took you through his solo early years and as the series progressed he developed his partnership’s with Gordon, Batgirl, Robin and then ultimately lead to him meeting other superheroes and the formation of the Justice League at the end. I actually also quite liked the animation of the series.

I give it credit for having Hugo Strange as a recurring villain whereas in Batman TAS, he was only in one episode. Unless you read comics at the time Batman TAS premiered, you probably ended up thinking that Strange was a villain the writers made up for the show and dropped afterwards.

Liking the different animated shows IMHO is similar to preference for the different live action movie series. Mileage and tastes my very. All the takes are valid and legitimate.

For some people, Adam West is their favorite. I think though, while The Batman is not as iconic as Batman: The Animated Series, it sort of has its fond place for certain fans.

Batman: Bave and the Bold from what I recall was pretty widely accepted and beloved by fans while it was on.

I'm not as into the team ups, I prefer solo Batman unless it's a JL context, but if the show did get better compared to the non team up episodes earlier in the show then more power to it.

Well I think the good thing is the show didn't do it right off the bat. They built up to those parts. At the start, it was solo Batman stories.

The Whole JL build and team up allegedly was meant to prepare for a Spin off Justice league show, which makes me kind of mad because that means they would have gone back to making The Batman focus on the batfamily...and that was when the show was super strong.

It got a lot better after Batgirl showed up to me. I greatly disliked the first season at the time but it's alright after rewatching it when The Batman was on Netflix years back. The show got progressively better with each season. My favorite episodes are "Grundy's Night" and "Artifact".

Some of the designs definitely took some getting used to; especially VelociJoker. I always liked the characterization of young Bruce, and I loved Barbara on the show. My favorite episode was the one where Joker took his own protege by taking in the class clown from Barbara’s school.

I'm just about to finish up a rewatch of the Blu-ray set and I still kind of love this show. Especially the first two seasons with the outstanding animation and more focus on solo Batman tackling street level threats.

Season 4 may have stronger writing, but it's also when the show started feeling a little DCAU/B:TAS-lite in tone, losing some of its distinctive identity.

A real shame Rino Romano never got the chance to reprise the role after the show wrapped up as he does stellar work here.

Highly recommended to anyone looking for some fun animated Batman adventures.

I prefer solo Batman typically but the Bat Family worked so well for me with The Batman. The supernatural elements also fit the style of the show even though I like the grounded villains more, which I think you do as well? Joker's Monkey-like movement is lessened later on, which I like. Still had acrobat Penguin going toe to toe with Batman though.

Didn’t Brandon Routh come back to voice Superman? That was a nice nod.

In The Batman it's actually George Newbern from JL/JLU once again voicing Superman, plus Dana DeLaney as Lois, and Clancy Brown as Lex Luthor. Andrea Romano was voiceover and casting director for both shows, so that's likely the main reason why.

Ah ok. I looked it up. Routh did voice a villain that I’ve never heard of in the show.

I remember not liking what they did to Freeze, but liked his look. I think Riddler was my favorite redesign even though he just went goth.
