The Dark Knight Why So Serious?

The pace at which trailers etc are released doesn't actually effect the quality of the finished film.

One question, sorry if its been answered already. I'm fairly up to date now on what I missed onilne. But what's been happening over in San Diego?

They staged a Joker job hiring type of thing. People who were there worked with people online at whysoserious.com working on puzzles from the Joker. Everyone that participated at the SDCC got their faces painted in the style of the Joker and went on mini-treasure hunts for clues. At the end a new pic of the joker and the HD version of the teaser was unveiled, along with a police file on the Joker. Basically it was something never done before, not expected and was fun to do as well as just good word of mouth for the movie.

And some people here are still complaining about it. Its unbelievable.

No, nobody is complaining about that. Some people are complaining that the "treasure" was just the teaser again, which was underwhelming in the first place. No one has complained about the marketing itself.

SM3 it was quantity not the question of when.

Here it's the situation of some fans pissed that they didn't see the Joker talk and move. Not fully understanding that fans must be treated differently than general audiences.

General audiences NEED the mystery.

Fans don't, thus comic-con exclusives.

You market to both differently. Showing Joker would have completely ruined the marketing strategy they have set up just to stop some fans from whining. There needs to be MYSTERY- showing Joker this early would have destroyed that.

Yeah. I don't think I've seen anybody say the whysoserious and comic-con stunt was disappointing.

Well, **** being humble then. The teaser itself is weak. I don't care what response it garners from the audience, its weaksauce. People are excited to have another Batman movie, thats great, I am too. The whole viral marketing thing is genius, I love it. The new picture is good too. Another "not-so-great-angle" of The Joker, but it shows the Joker without giving him all away, I get it and I like it. Apart from the laugh, the teaser is underwhelming. I never said I needed 5 minutes of footage or any actual scene to look at, but to see the Joker in motion even for a split second would have been better. After all you go through on the whysoserious site, the teaser is disappointing.

Disappointing to go through the whole process of the WHYSOSERIOUS SITE...
Dude, I dont know about you, but the only difficult thing about the site was how much time it took to get loading cause the amount of people jamming in one site at one time.
Outside of that it was fun, you got to use your brain, you got to work with people you merely agree or disagree with on these boards daily for a common goal of a prize at the end.
You get Three Photos of the joker, a Teaser in HD and your still not happy cause the Teaser was 59 Seconds of just talking. Instead you rather see the guys mouth move. Thats what makes it a horrible trailer, you dont see the guys mouth move.
Wow...Stop taking the whole thing so serious...Enjoy what your going through and witnessing in Movie Marketing History. The Common movie goer isnt knowing one damn thing about what we went through these past couple of days, before that months ago for a week or so and what we go through on a daily basis on here.
Some people are never satisfied and I can see why it pisses people off. If I get a photo, I am happy for like months at a time until news gets so slow its like rain in the desert you want it and need it. But one photo for me fills my craving and yet even if it does suck it still gets me hyped. I dont complain about it cause I am not a normal movie goer, I get my stuff in advance and I look at set reports and what not, just like you. Be happy your not a common joe. Your a nerd like me and everyone else on here.

After watching Simpsons - the more I am glad this wasn't a large trailer. The trailers ruined the Simpsons movie, IMO - it showed way to much. I don't want TDK to do the same.

Ok I am no longer complaining because this was enjoyable. But those going on about an HD-Trailer need to remember it was just a symbol.

I never said I wanted to see The Joker's mouth move, but maybe I should take that statement so literal. I think the teaser would have better if all it showed was The Joker walking away from the screen after the bat symbol explodes. Thats it. Nothing more. I'm not wanting a full-fledged trailer here or a split-second full reveal like SM3 did with Venom. Just a visual tease that's more than a logo.

Well, the only reason it was "again" was because someone bootlegged it yesterday. So, really, we only have ourselves to blame in that instance.

Well it's better in HD. I like it, it's okay. Still underwhelming. Ledger's voice and laugh sounded good.

The trailer could be seen legitimately, attached to The Simpsons. Only a very few fans and internet-dwellers have seen the trailer as a "reward" for getting through the enjoyable marketing. Most people will see the trailer on its own terms, in which respect I think it is disappointing.

it can be forever? ... Jk.

But, the real prize was the Joker pic, without a doubt.

The entire event was fun and the trailer and the pics and sounds were great. The phone call was really cool.

not to be mean freakjoker, but you gotta chill with that submit reply button man

So???? Who the fck cares? Um, only some of the constant complainers on here:

"I got Joker's laugh, I got Joker's voice, I got a new picture that shows the Joker on the side- but WB sucks because I didn't get new footage!"

Now, might just be me- but, doesn't that sound greedy?

Hell, we got as much information about the film as the Transformers teaser, yet I don't remember them *****ing about all they got. And later, not saying actual, when it said it wasn't footage from the film- everyone didn't moan going "show me footage!!!"

But, hey- some people just want to complain.

Your whining about other people whining. :whatever:
