Why the Hate for this Movie?

exactly. why would they loop all the sagas together. it will leave nothing for sequels

Who knows, vegeta may be Goku's old college roommate that got put on academic probation and eventually got kicked out, thus creating hatred for Goku and his study habits

dude, that's excatly the same thing me an a non db fan friend of mine were talking about when we were trashing the movie.....

The highschool bit reminds more of Yu Yu Hakusho or Bleach.

humm... dude, i was only talking about the storyline..not the characters..and that highschool thing and the hero fighting the viallain...is so like sayaman...and can't u see the similarity between goku and chichi and gohan &videl? i know the circumstances were others ...but videl fought in an artial marts tournament-just like chichi in this adaptation....sooo..i hope u see where i'm coming from.
Yea I see the similarities. I thought you meant just change the names. Even though Piccolo reminds me a little of Dabura.

isn't it obvious? they will never go to the majin buu saga so why not take a few elements and incorporate it into the movie. and just look at gohan's naive attitude and imagine it with goku in the highschool scene of the movie

Well incorporating school into Goku adds something that was needless to his character, he never attended school, even when Gohan was in school, Goku never tried to keep him in school, he always allowed him to battle alongside everyone else, Chi Chi wanted otherwise.

The high school thing was only added to make it more "real". They probably figured they couldnt sell a 10 year old living on his own in a shack in the wood saving the world. Now this movie would be perfect for gohan/goten. But it is not Goku. This could be a terrific movie but it will not be a good dragonball movie.

I understand it could make it more "real" but we are talking about a story that is far from realistic. I believe it could possibly sell without showing him attending school. In the series, he never dealt with school as a child due to the fact he was always battling enemies, in this film, we're not sure if they will even make mention of his past.

why would you try to make dragon ball more real?

Well it's gotta be easier to film a movie in our world than to create a fanstasy world right?

It depends on the director, if you wanna take the easy route, you can base it in our world. If you wanna give the movie its own unique feel, you can craft a world that has some of our features yet so many of its on to the point where its not of this universe

No one is going to take this movie seriously even with the high school stuff added in.

the high school scenario takes away from goku's true character and origin. why they would change his character and incorporate gohan's with his is beyond me.

The director does it because they feel as though its an aspect of Goku that the fans need to know. It was never a point of concern in the anime, so now, this needless aspect will be made apparent

it's definitely unneccessary. could they not come up with a storyline or something?

They could have, but the version that we're getting is basically the directors take on DB, and from the looks of it, it's a very watered down take. Honestly, I dont know that much about James Wong, so im not sure if he was a big fan of the series.

it sucks how they have to water things down to cater to different ages and groups. it takes away from the story a bit
