Why the Hate for this Movie?

Why the Hate? It's obvious isn't it. The internet is aging and wants to put down anything it considers childish. that's the main reason, and then there are those who have some agenda against fox for messing up fantastic four or whatever.

It's not like every fox movie is bad, so maybe we'll get lucky. Have some optimism you jerks.

So...if something is childish the internet puts it down? If there is something getting negative feedback, its the internet that is responsible? The internet is a tool in which people exchange opinions. It is obvious people will disagree that is human nature.

People don't like the direction that they took with Dragonball and given Fox's track record in adaptations people are very skeptical. It is not like studios pays some posters on the internet to bash Fox, they just make a product that people don't like.

Also I would be a disappointed pessimist vs a disappointed optimist.

This isn't simple disagreement. This is a generation of people who've grown up online and are now looking back on their lives and rejecting their childhood interests, I think so anyway. Either that or it's a bunch of spoiled kids running around trying to somehow 'make' dragonball fail by bashing it mercilessly. Even you have to see how everyone, every site, is condemning this movie because they feel it's beneath them.

This is great though. It's only paralleling the story of goku and how he rose from the lowest ranks of the saiyans to become the saiyan of legend. I think the movie will become a legendary super movie. Take that, negative nancie jerks :woot:

Dude I love my childhood interests. I will use Indiana Jones as a perfect example. I would have loved for Indy 4 to be good. I was praying that it would be good, however the ending product was sub-par and like South Park said "they raped him". Just because it is a childhood interest doesn't mean I will let it past my critical eye.

Also there is no agenda by fans, just reactions they get from information they receive. If they like what they are hearing or like what DB is developing into then the reactions will be positive, it is as simple as that. Unfortunatly Dragonball has been hitting the wrong nerve with fans constantly hence all the negative feedback. The revealing of Piccolo is a perfect example. Many fans were excited and hoped Piccolo would stay true to the character and they could look forward to something about Dragonball. However as you have seen he was drastically different and not in a good way. Because of that there was a severely negative reaction towards the movie.

As for me I think this movie took a pretty influential anime and reduced it to some filler movie for Blockbuster. If this movie is even good it will be one of those movies that you only see out of word of mouth.

Me too. I wanted to love the new indy but it didn't have shortround, nothing1! You can't give me a sequel without shorty.

I love most of the crap I indulged in before hitting puberty and shifting my focus towards T&A and I think that may be part of the reason so many are lashing out at DB before it's released. They're not getting any and need something to break down to feel better about their lack of booty.

I mean if you're getting some, how could a pic of piccolo really get to you? Changes like that happen.., no big deal to me... and I'm not even, well I won't go there. Suffice it to say, I'm cool with people not liking what they're seeing but I think some are taking it too far because they're not getting laid.

I think my friends said it best, they are African American and watched Dragonball, Z and GT when they were younger. They said that the character they related to was Piccolo. They went on to explain when they watched the show Piccolo almost filled that role of a minority. They related to his calm presence and what made him stand out visually. They were disgusted by the fact that they didn't treat a character that they related to and enjoyed imitating. Now that is basically like following the Prince of Persia series and being excited about a movie then finding out they didn't even cast a Persian for the lead character that you related to.

Some of you are coming up with very long, very crazy explanations for why people have a low opinion of this movie. How about Justin Chatwin and that it respects almost nothing from the source material? The only good thing I've heard about the movie is that supposed Dragonball meal deal that's supposed to be at Arby's. But even that will doubtfully play a role in saving this feature presentation.

Edited to remove flippancy.

Well, I think that his skin tone shouldn't be a factor in whether you relate to him or not, especially since he's an evil alien. Really, that seems like a non-issue from my point of view. And that's all I'm going to say on the matter.

It doesn't have to do with the skin tone as much as the respect of the character.

There are good changes and bad changes. So far I've mostly seen the latter. To be honest, I can't think of one change that I would deem good.

what changes would you be willing to accept, if any?

KAypain, could you please just tone it down... He's entitled to hate the film, just as your entitled to like the film :)

I just asked him a simple question... what is it to tone down?

While I agree to a point, Fox has messed up quite a bit more then just F4. They're responsible for, F4, F4:RoTSS, Ghostrider, Daredevil, Elecktra, Max Payne, and Eragon to name a few.

Then add to the list their lesser, but still relevant influences in the X-men movies, (which weren't that bad, yes even X3) but they could have been much better had Fox not forced them into such tight schedule, and making the newest Die Hard movie pg-13 :whatever:

Overall, Fox just doesn't seem to put a whole lot of thought into their movies, they always seem to rush them, and force them to stick to a formula that they think is the only way to approach action movies. I would say that people around here have a justified reason to be wary of the DB film as long as it's under Fox.

Yeah, nowadays when I hear that drumroll and see the Fox logo, I'm automatically put into an uncomfortable position.

Agreed. I will say that Die Hard 4 wasn't too bad despite the PG-13 rating, but you're right. Fox clearly doesn't care anymore.
