Why the Hate for this Movie?

yeah...but this is worse. at least Bullet Proof Monk didn't have a following like DB does and that movie didn't have a chance at being as big as Chronicles of Narnia or even Star Wars.

This is the one time the Teenage fanbase will be doing some good, who would have thought a year ago I would be routing for a Hanna Montana movie.:csad:

I can't stand Hanna Montana either. That and DragonBall can just go away IMO.

DragonBall never had a chance to be as big as Chronicles of Narnia or Star Wars. Even if it were a good movie. Frankly on the basis that there are just as many people who hate the franchise to those who absolutely love it.

With Narnia and Star Wars, most people tend to look at them as good movies.

Except Dragonball is just as popular as X-men, Spiderman, Batman worldwide if not more so. So it had every chance to be as successful.

unfortunately the potential is now gone, but i think that a live action Dragon Ball movie could have easily been as big as Chronicles of Narnia. Kung Fu Panda, an original CGI cartoon with talking animals as the stars made for people of all ages earned 215 mil domestic and 631 worldwide and the sequel is right around the corner....and that's a CGI cartoon. if Dragon Ball had the same heart and quality behind it that Kung Fu Panda did then it could have easily surpassed that. if the Wachowski's got a hold of it and used their gift of transforming anime into live action and their ability to create plausible stories in implausible worlds, then i think it could have easily been as big as the Matrix. it could have been the most epic martial arts fantasy to ever have been made...

..but that's alas, it's just a dream.

It's not that popular. When you ask someone on the street who Spider-Man or Batman is, they'll most likely know what you're talking about. With DB, you would get looks of confusion.

Its the other way around here in Latin America. DB and DBZ are BIG, even 20 years later. People from all ages (from kids to grown up adults) watch it, and they are still watching it.

Most people I ask about DB or DBZ either know it or heard of it at least.

Even though thats wrong. That measures recognition not popularity.

Superman is the most well know fictional character after God but Superman Returns flopped and the comics arnt selling well at all.

Superman isnt that popular anymore.

As a person who can't stand the Dragon Ball franchise, I must say that even if it weren't based on Dragon Ball, this film would still look horrible. From the teaser, it looks to be a horrible movie regardless and honestly I think this is gonna flop just like Speed Racer.

People like me are going to avoid this film on the basis it's a Dragon Ball film. Regular film goers will avoid this because it looks bad and has other films in competition that people will go off to see instead (Hanna Montana: The Movie for example). And Dragon Ball fans will probably be pissed off to not see this based on how it looks unfaithful.

I still think this will do well internationally. The domestic market is important for a film but we shouldn't completely count out the international market. This movie doesn't look good but we may yet get a sequel.

How is it wrong? Don't post anymore Google searches either. SR never flopped.

Don't get me wrong. I think that in the right hands, Dragon Ball could have been a rather successful movie in attempting to get people who really don't know what it is. But there is just no way in hell that it could have been as huge as Star Wars, the Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Batman, Indiana Jones, or the Chronicles of Narnia.

But right now there really aren't people who are in the middle for Dragon Ball. Most people I've encountered in real life in or on the Internet, are either really, really, really into it or they downright hate it because they ignorantly look down upon anime in general or just find it stupid.

okay...i'll give you those, except for Narnia. the Narnia movies aren't on their level.

I don't think that this film will do good at all for the reasons I've mentioned.

1. It looks bad to the point where people are not going to want to see it like the public did with Speed Racer. People who hate Dragon Ball aren't going to see it because they think of it as stupid. And the Dragon Ball fans are probably going to end up being insulted by this movie. I mean seriously I knock on Dragon Ball and its fans so much but this movie looks so bad, that I really feel bad for the fans. No fan deserves this kind of movie.

2. It's very poorly scheduled. It comes out 5 days before Fast and Furious and two days before Hanna Montana: The Movie (which is becoming a tween franchise juggernaut) and Observe and Report starring Seth Rogen. Dreamworks Animation's Monsters vs. Aliens will still be in theaters as well.

You're joking right?

No hes not. Hes actually right. Worldwide Dragonball is more popular than Batman + Spiderman + Xmen.

You americans think you are the world. You really dont know about the rest of the world.

Dragonball has been a fenomenom all around the globe, from China to Japan, from Europe to Africa, from the middle east to Latin America.

You guys are really underestimating Dragonball´s popularity. This is common in americans who think they are the world.

I think the movie will do well overall...In America, Im hoping the movie makes at least 120mil and WW 350mil

Worldwide it is.
the Dark Knight earned $466 mil FOREIGN.....EXCLUDING domestic and it's less than 3 million dollars away from a BILLION worldwide. And you said that DB is bigger than Spider-Man (another record breaking superhero), X-Men and Batman COMBINED???????

Dude...Batman, Superman, the X-Men, and Spider-Man. Those are downright recognizable no matter where you go!

Again, with the scheduling (Hanna Montana, Monsters vs. Aliens, Fast and Furious, and Observe and Report), along with the quality of this move, Dragon Ball is not going to make $120 million domestically.

However, it could do decent worldwide.
