Why the Hate for this Movie?

No hes not. Hes actually right. Worldwide Dragonball is more popular than Batman + Spiderman + Xmen.

Yeah....maybe in fantasy land.
You americans think you are the world. You really dont know about the rest of the world.

Another shot at Americans? I totally didn't see that coming. :whatever:

Dragonball has been a fenomenom all around the globe, from China to Japan, from Europe to Africa, from the middle east to Latin America.

And you've been all around the globe, correct? :hehe:

You guys are really underestimating Dragonball´s popularity. This is common in americans who think they are the world.

And you're overestimating it's popularity.Think whatever you want though.

And its true DBZ is bigger than other superheroes worldwide, Superman, Batman, Spiderman are obviously bigger in North America but DBZ is bigger in South America, Asia and most of Europe.

The games sell more, the DVD's sell better and the show was watched more than all the Marvel/DC cartoons put together.

That poster makes some good points.

But what sort of timeframe are we looking at because Superman, Batman and Spiderman have been out considerably longer than Dragonball and had TV shows, cartoons, comics, toys and other merchandise long before Toriyama put pen to paper.

the Dark Knight earned $466 mil FOREIGN.....EXCLUDING domestic and it's less than 3 million dollars away from a BILLION worldwide. And you said that DB is bigger than Spider-Man (another record breaking superhero), X-Men and Batman COMBINED???????

We are not talking about movie franchises, we are talking about superheroe comics/manga and cartoon/anime.

In terms of comics/manga and/or cartoons/anime, DB and DBZ are bigger worldwide than Batman + Superman + Xmen.

Moviewise is another subject.

why do you think those movies are able to break records like they did? Spider-Man, X-Men and Superman have been around much longer than Dragon Ball. you're just plain delusional if you really think that Dragon Ball is more popular than Batman or Spider-Man, let alone both of them combined.

Dude...Batman, Superman, the X-Men, and Spider-Man. Those are downright recognizable no matter where you go!

Yes they are recognizable, but in terms of popularity DB and DBZ are far more popular worldwide. Example: George Bush is VERY recognizable worldwide, but is he popular?

Guys you have to understand that times change, and Superman may have been popular in the past, but nowdays if you go to any street in latin america or in asia, you will see that DB and DBZ has more fans (im not talking about recognizion, but fanwise) than Superman and such.

Like Bullza says, the DBZ franchise (as an anime, manga, games, etc) is bigger than Superman and company WORLDWIDE. We are not talking about movie franchise.

You guys really need to start seeing everything in the global point of view and not the domestic (USA) point of view. Just because Xmen or Superman or Spiderman are VERY popular in the USA (compared to DB and DBZ), that doesnt mean the world is like that.

Its like soccer. It may not be that popular in the USA, but its the #1 sport worldwide. The same applies to DB and DBZ.

Can someone post some legit info on these bigger than marvel superheroes claims.

A few months ago someone posted statistics about DVD, internet searchs, games, toys, manga/comics, sellings worldwide and DB and DBZ turned out way bigger. But since everyone is getting banned nowdays I doubt the guy who did is still among us.

You cant measure popularity ONLY because a movie sold more tickets. Titatic is the #1 grossing movie of all times and that movie had no fans and popularity before. See my point? You cant measure popularity out of a movie selling tickets.

See my above posts: dvd sales, console games sales, toys sales, internet searches, comic book sales, anime/cartoon TV ratings, etc, those are the real things you need to measure popularity. Not just movie ticket sales.

Titanic not being popular BEFORE the movie came out doesn't mean that it wasn't popular AFTER the movie came out. you can't pick and choose by saying you're excluding movies because then you're just trying to make the argument fit your perspective. you have to take ALL merchandise into account when judging a property's popularity.

i'm sure 70 years of Batman's merchandise ALONE outweighs Dragon Ball's 24 years. add Superman's 70 years and Spider-Man's 46 years and you're argument falls apart.

You are the one measuring a thing´s popularity ONLY because of tickets sales, and I brought the example that you cant do that because of the Titanic example.

Look buddy, im not gonna keep arguing with you because im getting infractions for the smallest innofensive things, so im not gonna keep debating this. If you wanna believe that the USA = World, then fine. You are free to think the way you want and in the internet is pointless in trying to change your mind.

So, believe what you want.

Im gonna put this very small example:

DB arabic intro:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hG7gqB6wBaE

DBZ arabic intro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gteuHPVEK8Y

DB and DBZ were big even in Arabia. I know thats just 1 country, but it was a big success even in closed culture countries like that.

Im not gonna keep arguing. Good luck.

So? DB/DBZ is more popular NOW.

The roman empire lasted like 5-6 centuries as the world super power. Where are they now?, just because they ruled the world in the past, doesnt mean they still rule it.

Times change, and nowdays DB/DBZ are the popular ones. Sorry if that hurts you.

Now im done.

no i'm not...please don't put words in my mouth. i used box office as ONE example of how Batman is more popular than Dragon Ball.

If you wanna believe that the USA = World, then fine.
i don't believe that at all.

Erm yes it did $200+ million production budget probably a lot on marketing.

And it made $390 million so WB lost money.

Superman Returns didn't flop at the box office. Warner Bros did make some money off of it at the box office plus licensing and DVD/hi-def sales.

The problem was that it utterly disappointed at the box office because of poor scheduling (a week before the Pirates of the Caribbean juggernaut) and the fact that it really isn't everyone's type of film.

So now you have Warner Bros. rebooting the franchise so that way we can get a movie that we're all going to like and one that will do better at the box office.

I don't think that this film will do good at all for the reasons I've mentioned.

1. It looks bad to the point where people are not going to want to see it like the public did with Speed Racer. People who hate Dragon Ball aren't going to see it because they think of it as stupid. And the Dragon Ball fans are probably going to end up being insulted by this movie. I mean seriously I knock on Dragon Ball and its fans so much but this movie looks so bad, that I really feel bad for the fans. No fan deserves this kind of movie.

I don't think DB is going to do well domestically for this reason, but I still believe the franchise's name is strong enough to bring in large crowds internationally. There may be significant drops after its opening weekend in every country but I think it'll open big.

2. It's very poorly scheduled. It comes out 5 days before Fast and Furious and two days before Hanna Montana: The Movie (which is becoming a tween franchise juggernaut) and Observe and Report starring Seth Rogen. Dreamworks Animation's Monsters vs. Aliens will still be in theaters as well.

I don't think this is going to be an issue internationally where I suspect DB is going to make most of its money.

I think the movie will do well overall...In America, Im hoping the movie makes at least 120mil and WW 350mil

I really don't see this film cracking $100 mil domestically. I feel like it's going to flop.

I'll just add this to your deluded little world. :oldrazz:

Batman, Spiderman and Superman are recognized all around the world from the cities of America to the slums of India. EVERYONE knows who Batman and Spiderman are, hell, even my granny who lives on the glens of Ireland knows who Batman is.

You might love Dragonball, but how can you be so deluded to think that it is more popular and more recognizable that Batman and Spiderman and co?

If someone showed me or anyone I know a picture of a Dragonball character we would just be like "Ohhh, a asian cartoon. WOW!"

Use your loaf yea?

Oh, and don't compare FOOTBALL with Dragonball. And don't call it soccer. Thanks.

I don't know a single person who has heard of Dragonball man. I'm not from America.

Dragon Ball Evolution isn't going to come close to Dark Knight or Spider-man 3.

Well Spider-man 3 sucked anyways. Im hoping DB:E has number close to the first X-Men movie

Ok since for some reason it seems as if there a lot of wrong topic discussions in the wrong threads.
My dislikes for the movie.

1. Roshi not being a pervert, bald.( He might wear shades in the movie)

2. The casting of Jamie as Chi Chi.

3. No Krillin.

4. Goku goin to East Beverly High lol (would have been happy with home schooled).

The first X-men movie made about $300 worldwide. I predict this movie won't come close to that either.

Yeah that was me but i dont remember where i posted it.

I think it can make that much world-wide. in america alone? not a chance, but wrold wide? i think t can do about that much.
