I frequent Unforums, the main ARG forums and there is basically nothing there. There are 5 posts about this and absolutely no conclusions. We are much further here.

Because you aren't supposed to be calling random candy shops. That guy was most likely a one post troll. All the previous times when we needed to pickup a cake or go to a bowling alley, we'd get the address so that we wouldn't be randomly calling people and annoying/scaring them with cryptic talk.
