I still like the Spock suit as a basis for creating a movie suitable Mysterio.

Yes its needs customizing to his original colours or as near as possible.

The front dome maybe a bit rounder & brook green metallic finish, a dark purple cape & again the dome faceless with aluminous effect (too far?).

^ I like the design idea for trading the fish bowl for a helmet-ish. Translates well.

I'd say if you just take away the ear to jaw side frame then you've got a reasonable dome & i like the shape of this as it is.

Virtually no one agrees with you. Mysterio is the best and needs to be on the silver screen.

Also the hologram Osborn at Oscorp looks way too much like Rhys Ifans/Connors in my opinion. Always thought was weird....

But the hologram had audio talking about Norman Osborn and had "Norman Osborn" written under the face.

I can see how some could see Connors, but I've done a side-by-side comparison between Massee and the hologram and it was definitely him. Massee has some distinguishable facial features (down-turned mouth, nose, ears, throat) and all of those matched up.

In the end, so what, they had Massee slated to play Osborn and for some reason, likely either scheduling or wanting to go with a more known actor, they dropped him.

As much as I would like to see Mysterio, the whole fish-bowl thing won't translate well. The helmet concept could work, but wouldn't it just turn out to be too much like Mr. Freeze?

Also Mysterio's powers do not need the whole fish-bowl costume to work. In the real world I think they would make him more of a Vegas or Holywood illusionist turned bad.

I could still see the whole green costume and cape, but the helmet/fish bowl will probably not make it. Doesn't mean they couldn't have a fun reference to it at some point. Imagine a water submergence illusion where Quentin first dons a small helmet.

Anyway, a real life illusionist who decides to turn to a life of crime. That would make more sense, but would that apply to where we seem to be going with this trilogy? Can't see how the story of Beck could be used in the next movie since that one is going to have to be all about Goblin.

^ Doesn't have to be ALL about Goblin. We'll see where it goes.

As far as Mysterio, that's the thing. The fishbowl thing would never work IMO. And now that you mentioned his origin, I find it kinda too campy for a series like Webb's to introduce a Hollywood wash out who was into props/special fx turned into villain. They'd probably have to skip his origin. Idk as much as I love Mysterio, I don't see how he could work in Webb's universe.
I did tell Avi Arad once, (in regards to the villain for TASM2) "Mysterio maybe?" And he goes, "Ah, that's not an easy one to do." Haha.

^ Here's the thing...

If this is indeed the Gwen Stacey trilogy, and the plan is to stop at that point, or to at least wrap up the whole Gwen character/story, then Goblin is the guy that makes that happen. If Gwen gets killed off by the Rhino or Electro in this one people are going to be pissed. If she gets killed off by the Jackal or Kraven in ASM3 then people are going to be pissed.

It really does seem like they're setting up the whole Goblin storyline. Much of what we saw in ASM1 was about Osborn. Gwen worked at Oscorp. Connors works at Oscorp. Daddy used to work with Connors at Oscorp. Connors' work in cross species genetics is what will save Osborn. Etcetera, etcetera...

Yes, we're heading towards the Green Goblin. Even that man in the shadows scene was likely (albeit debatable) about Osborn.

So, we've got Green Goblin coming and in ASM2 we already have too many baddies with the Rhino and Electro on the plate. That means Goblin will be featured in ASM3. Afterall, they actually named the concept of super hero wives and/or girlfriends dying after this story, and you can't have the Gwen Stacey Syndrome without killing off Gwen, and to have anyone other than Goblin do that would be an injustice to the story.

^ Totally. All the evidence you stated points to a Goblin-centric movie. I'm just saying anything can happen. They've been pretty left field with a lot of things.

^ Actually (spolier alert - kind of)...

.....

Just saw some new set pics of Emma Stone wearing a green jacket. She was filming on a bridge. Got a big, bad feeling she's getting off'd in ASM2.

That would then allow MJ to become more important and even allow a Blackcat character in ASM3.

Hate to see Emma go, but we knew it had to happen.

^ Saw those. I actually kinda want it to happen. Why not?

Why not? Cause that would mean we will likely start to see the Peter/MJ relationship develop. Maybe not, but likely the whole consoling each other thing which will lead into love...

My concern is that I can't see myself liking Shalene more than I like Emma. And in the comics that was always the thing. After Gwen was gone Peter and MJ got together and MJ was so out of his league (at least before he became Spidey) that it was interesting. To turn MJ into an intellectual (which is what Gwen is) would be boring, to have her plain jane would make her less appealing than Gwen, so as a comparison the only way to make it work is go with what the comics did, an amazingly hot, super model, that would allow people to get over Gwen. And I don't think that that is the route they went with.

Once Emma is out it will be very difficult to get us to root for Peter to end up with MJ, unless something drastic changes. But a very hot white haired troublemaker that would help him defeat Goblin, well that would be fun...

What if Black Cat showed up and did help him but it turned out to be Mary Jane!!! :O :O :O

Just kidding that would be horrible...

..but if Harry can be Venom.... hmmm

I doubt we'll even see Peter and MJ get together let alone build too much attraction or romantic tension. I think Webb knows they've covered MJ with the Raimi series, and wants to showcase Gwen obviously. Webb's run will be done after the third movie to even move on to MJ.

As for liking Emma more than Shailene, that's all subjective.

Next week on Ultimate Spider-man. :whatever:

I don't agree. I don't see much reason to bring in MJ at all unless they plan on eventually moving on from Peter and Gwen. It may not happen in this film (and arguably shouldn't without it seeming too soon), but I can imagine a third or fourth film having Peter move on from Gwen (if she's dead).

If there is a fourth movie. I'm hoping. I always said if they did have PETER and MJ go down the love route, they should have Peter and MJ "hint" or "somewhat be together" in the third act of the fourth movie.

Yeah he would be coping in the third film, hopefully.

Personally I don't see Peter moping for the entirety of the third film if Gwen bites it in the second. I don't see a MJ and Peter relationship being left to the very end of a fourth film.

Definitely not moping around 100% of the time and if the Peter/MJ thing does happen sooner, it'll just feel rushed and too quick. Eh who knows. We're still waiting for the sequel haha

For the helmet, I think I'd do something similar to this Halo Spartan design.

True. lol

I think Massee has the right voice and style for the Chameleon. For the movie version of the Chameleon, I say he should not be russian and should not be related to Kraven in any way. Disguise himself only as male persons, (no females at all) and have some fighting skills if necessary.

But that's the huge kicker here. We've gotten confirmation that Massee WILL return as the Man in the Shadows in ASM2, so it makes the casting Chris Cooper as Norman feel very.... off. In the comics, Norman WAS The Man in the Shadows (it was his civilian cover as Goblin before his identity as Norman was revealed).

So for Massee to be the Man in the Shadows, but someone else is playing Norman Osborn, it makes the whole situation that much more interesting. Because as you said, all clues pointed to Massee being Norman.

I fully expect as massive twist to emerge from this.

Yes I like this concept as well. The style would suit Webb's vision of Spider Mans world.

His Electro is certainly growing on me but i wish there was some sort of green/yellow colour included for final version. maybe even the hooded jacket. Still the current version is fine too.

I would support that idea & Chameleon is one of my fav choices. he needs to be able to be disguise himself as anybody though.

Wait, what?

When did we get confirmation that Massee WILL return as the Man in the Shadows in ASM2?

This whole thread has been about speculating if he will and I don't believe I've ever seen confirmation, or anything at all for that matter, that pointed to him coming back...

If he is going to be back, as the "Man in the Shadows", maybe they will use some footage that has already been filmed, during the last filming, and then they'll just switch the actor to Cooper without any explanation, which wouldn't be necessary since Massee was always in the shadows.
