Will "SPIDER-MAN 3" be an epic?

Gonking said:
Your definition of "epic" is pure crap.
sure pal.... I'm sure YOU know what's epic and not.. based on your previous posts.:o

I feel that Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 were both great comic book movies and were pretty epic. S-M 2 had a bit more of an epic feel, but the third I believe is the classic epic feel and story. Two best friends engaged in battle as well as Spidey in a serious inner struggle with his own demons, combined with the rage of a remorseless peter directed towards sandman, all the while building up to an epic 4 way battle with peter's arch nemesis? I'd say this a pretty epic one, with revenge and forgiveness being main themes here. This is pretty much shakespeare. How is Superman Returns more epic than the previous SM films anyway? It's just more artsy... with a crappy story line.

Ones again, it has nothing to do with the fact that you guys find the film boring.. the apearence and presents of superman is EPIC...

Ummmm, not to me it's not. You may find it epic, but I certainly don't. And clearly alot of other people don't find it epic either. Not everyone creams their pants when they see a guy in blue tights and a red cape come on screen.

You can't say that at all about spider-man

Well, judging by box office records, more people want to go and see Spidey on screen than they do Superman.

So you tell me who the general audience find more epic :cwink:

... although I have no doubt that you have some explonation to proof me wrong... so please do so...

See above.

Just know that if you answer is simply, SR is a piece of crap, all respect from my side is lost.

Ummmm no, I like to back up my opinions with a little explanation. Saying that you personally think Superman appearing on screen is epic does not prove SR is epic.

But I guess you couldn't care less right... but still you wouldn't have given me an answer that makes sense!

I have given an answer that makes sense. Now it's your turn.

In my opinion box office numbers have nothing to do with "Epic-ness" of movies.

No, they don't always. If that was true, then Titanic is the most epic movie of all time. And we all know that's BS! But you're not going to tell me that movies like the Lord of the Rings' giant success had nothing to do with their epicness, are you??

If seeing Superman on screen is as epic as Naite22 is trying to claim, surely SR would have broken box office records.

and neither tha appearence of a movie

That's too abstract

...I think that if I had to choose a superhero franchise I love more then the others, in the end, I believe I'd choose the spider-man franchise. No other superhero franchise has the action quite like spider-man. No other superhero movie's has that brilliant charm and humor.

However, I think Batman Begins & Superman Returns are true superhero epics, while (forgive me) I don't think spidey 1 nor 2 has that epic feel... They're stylish and damn near perfect, but epic??? I dont think so... Again, I would like to stress the action in spider-man 2. That train battle is the most beautiful and most badass mindblowing action sequence ever caught on film! Both spidey flicks have great story's, a great cast, and especially a great director! Everything is beautiful in the spider-man family... So WHY aren't the films epic's, like Superman and Batman Begins???

...And do you think Spidey 3 will be an epic. If so, why?

Disagree about Begins and SR being epic. Lord of the Rings or the early Star Wars films come to mind when I think of the term. Overall the Spidey franchise has been the best, and the second movie had more of an epic feel to it IMO. Whether the third one will be we'll see.:)

I agree. Even though I like the Spidey films a lot, I couldnt call them epics. I also agree that Superman Returns is an epic (not saying this cause I'm a fan plus I dont think of SR as the prefect film. There were things I didnt really like) as is Batman Begins (imo, although some might say it isnt)

For all of you saying they arent, then you either dont really know the meaning of the word epic (or better yet, the phrase epic film) and/or you are just Spidey fans who find the other characters (Superman for example) boring and you dont like them.

A film doesnt have to be good and/or do well at the B.O. in order for it to be an epic. Nor does it need lots of action.

I am Superman, Batman and Spider-Man fan. I like the Spider-Man films, I wanted Superman Returns to have some more action (even though I enjoyed it as it is) and yes it didnt do as good as it could have done, at the B.O. (this still doesnt mean it failed) but as I said thats not what makes a film epic...

As for the question of whether or not Spider-Man 3 will be an epic I cant say yet and to tell you the truth I dont really care. I liked the previous Spidey movies and from what I've seen and read so far I'm sure I'll enjoy and like the 3rd one as much as I did the other ones and maybe more. Thats all that matters really (to me at least).

spidey1 and spidey2 had an epic feel to it and i think spidey3 will defenitley have an epic feel to it. the action sequences in this film will be fantastic. spidey2 had an epic feel to it and alot of people including me really felt the epicness of the train sequence. now the final battle in spidey3 it will be so intense especially the fact that venom is in the final battle which will reck havoc. these spidey movies are the best and i love what they have done with them including the action and story wise.

I think SR is a great film, but not epic really; spidey won the shirt ripping contest hands down . . . that's epic. On the other hand, I wouldn't say any of the spidey films are epic or even will be epic -- it's not right for the feel of the films. Spidey's just a kid, with normal problems, and he's kinda average if you don't include his spidey abilities and his interlect. That's what made the whole Spidey franchise so popular: Spidey being a real person with real problems, and when you show that kind of vulnerability on screen it would be hard making it epic at the same time, I think. These movies are supposed to feel meloncholy in a way -- it was one of the main feelings the second film gave you from start to finish. It's all about the story with Raimi, so I guess they are epic in their own special, more emotionally orientated way.:spidey:

If you love the movies, what the heck does it matter if it's epic or not?

UNbeliveable!.... Lord of the rings is epic, YES... But so is superman returns!!!... I have no doubt that spider-man 3 will have a much bigger impact on the public... but I seriously doubt that it'll be half as epic as superman returns.. anyone who can't see that SR is an epic (despite of people saying it's borring and what ever) doesn't know what epic is... I'm no the one who has a small view of what's epic here.
If Superman Returns is what you call EPIC, then I hope to hell Spider-Man 3 isn't. I know what epic is, that's why I named LOTR as an epic. If you can watch Star Wars or LOTR and put SR and BB in the same frame of scope, good for you. I on the other hand see them as small movies when comparing them.

Well, good to see that my thread can bring out posts from you guys... anyway, I STILL think that SR is an epic, while I couldn't say that exact thing about spidey, which I love just the same... there's just something over SR, I dont know what it is.

Aha... The only thing that spider-man doesn't have in what you mentioned above, is the freaken cape!... I love spider-man, and as I mentioned in the first post, The spider-man movie's are my favorite. Yet, I STILL believe that SR is more of an epic then spidey will ever be. That's not saying that the film is better then the spidey flicks, at all. This just IS... I saw Spidey 2 again last night and it's so stylish all the way... But sometimes the movie breaks and is the main reason for it not to get that epic feel... Especially J.Jonah is waaaaay too funny for the movie's own good. He comes in and knocks the film right back into the cartoon world, ones again; and that's irritating.

SR is not an epic though. it did not have huge action scenes. SR sucked.

?Question?... Does some of you believe that Star Wars - A new Hope is an epic???! Cause if you do, YOU dont know what epic is!... The star wars films became epic when Empire came around, and not any sooner! A new Hope, while very enjoyable is by far an epic! It's so freaken corny in ao many places.

For some maybe.... But sorry to tell ya... HUGE action sequences is not what makes a film epic... it can help.. but if that's all you got, then you have nothing... Look at Spidey 2.. it's the most mindblowing action sequences ever.. but STILL it doesn't earn that epic feel... you need more.

Thank god for that! And Spidey also has a cool mask, you know, something that genuinely hides a secret identity. Not a pair of freakin' glasses LOL!

I find your logic really, really funny.

You claim Jonah Jameson makes the movie cartoony, but you find SR epic with characters like Parker Posey's Kitty Kowolski hamming it up to the campiest levels with Lex Luthor, the main villain of the movie, with stupid stuff like Lex Luthor and her stuck on an island thinking about eating her dog :whatever: They were about as menacing as Butters' Professor Chaos in South Park.

Or how about super kid kicking ass by taking out thugs with a piano.

Oh wow, that is so EPIC!!! These scenes slay anything with Jonah Jameson on screen...............NOT!!!

Jonah Jameson is exactly like he is in the comics. Ripped straight from the comic book page onto the screen. Too cartoony?? Not on your life. If Jonah Jameson is too cartoony, then SR is the movie equivalent of My Little Pony or the Care Bears.

SR sucked in every area possible. the spider-man movies are great even if they were not epic.

I agree.. spider-man 1 and 2 are absolutely great YET not epic... true... but SR did not suck in every area possible.. and you can keep saying that, but it's not true. Surely there should've been many things Singer should have done differently, but the movie did NOT suck at all. Fantastic-4, DareDevil, HULK.. they SUCKED!

i never said that the spider-man movies were not epic. they really are epic. remember the spider-man2 train sequence? that was an epic scene. both movies preety much had an epic feel to them.

Unbelievable that you people still believe that the glasses is the only thing that hides his identity.. It's Clark's whole personality (the way he sees humans) that draws away the attention of people connecting him with superman! They look at Clark and say "no way, you can't fake that! This could never be superman!"

I'm glad that you find my logic funny... But that's my point.. J. Jonah is too cartoonish... Some times you need to alter those things to make it fit better cinematickly...

I can't believe that so many have this crazy idea that Jason in SR will team up for the sequel in a freaken suit and fight crimes along his father.. that's not what it's about at all!

The ellements in SR is what makes the film epic... Spider-Man just don't have them, that's all.
