The Dark Knight Will TDK Show Off Batman's Detective Skills?

I dont understand the hate and whining about Bruce being less of a genius on BB when to me they played everything just right. I even like Goyer's touch when some gave him a hard time about everything.

I'm fairly certain Jackie Chan did all that and more in Rush Hour, so your little joke kinda fails. The simple fact that so many people feel that this aspect was lacking should be a sign that it probably was in fact lacking.

Didn't Jackie play a police Detective, though?

And, I'm sorry you don't find me funny. I'll be sure to try harder.....just FOR you.

And, lacking is NOT the same as non-existant.

Which, is what the posts before mine would have you believe. Read my post a little more, and you'll see what I mean.

First he gathered clues on The Joker. Observing he may be Jack Napier, then looking at Napier's personal files to deduct Joker's motivation and motis operandi.

How'd he gather clues?

The way I saw it, he noticed the Joker bared a resemblance to the man he saw fall into a vat of chemicals.

The psyche file on him was pretty cool, though. But, it's kinda minimal for me. Cool, nontheless.

Then he used both forensic and chemistry skills to uncover how the Joker was killing people with his "new and improved" products.

See, the forensic thing isn't as obvious. The chemistry was. I felt it showed Bruce's chemistry brilliance, but not his detective smarts. I saw it as Bruce uncovering the chemical code behind the products because he was simply smarter than the Joker.

B89 actually did a really good job of showing Batman as a great detective, I think.

I think B89 did a great job of showing Batman's fantastic intellect. Showing his smarts. Just, not so much with being a detective. Although, I guess in a CSI age....many people today might consider being in a lab as important as being outside breaking people's heads.

Sure BB had some detective work but I don't think the average viewer came away from the movie thinking 'gee that Batman he's one sharp guy'. Things just kinda fell into place the way they often do in action movies. TDK needs to showcase the detective work much more and fortunately Jonah Nolan has hinted it will.

Agreed.

Really, that's all I was saying.....but, when someone posts that Batman Begins had no detective work at all. That he was just a guy who ran into situations without pursuing a thing, c'mon...highly unfair, and inaccurate.

actually, he did crack the jokers chemical code in B89, in Returns he did some detective work on his computer, and in forever he cracked the riddlers riddles. B&R i dont remember if he didn any detetive work, and in begins, he played a dumb blonde and displayed absolutly no detctive skills whatsoever, let alone being a "genious". hopefully they will fix this in TDK.

See, THIS is what pisses me off to no end....

And, I'm sorry....but looking at a computer scene at old files is nice.....but it's miminal stuff. Less so then what he did in Batman Begins. Dammit.

Yes, he was smart in B89 and BF. It's something that's lacking from Begins, showing the Batman to be the smartest man on Earth, but....not being the
Greatest Detective. Cracking a chemical code is being a great scientist....not being a great detective, in my mind. Looking at old phots, psyche evaluations and newspaper clippings to follow a hunch is on the crips of detective work, but if they'd follwed it up with him going after leads of some kind, putting evidence together (although, that Batman handled justice HIS way, so it's hard to want that from him) would have been detective work for me.

Saying there was none in Begins isn't true. I've pointed out, as well as others, the detective work in Begins.

Is it alot? No. I haven't claimed it to be. But, it's there......

In BB, we saw Bruce's mastery of the martial arts above all else, and I've heard other fans complain of the film leaving his strong skills of deduction out, as well as his scientific prowess, having Fox being responsible for almost the whole of the latter. And after hearing The Joker's Five-Way-Revenge being cited as source material, I wonder if TDK will show off Batman's detective prowess on the big screen. I for one always enjoyed that aspect to the character.

Probably more his role of scientist if there's a new type of fear gas and the Joker's laughing gas. But then that side of him was dropped in favour of Fox doing all the work so... perhaps he'll be a master detective instead.

Batman was both a detective and far smarter in Begins than many fans give him credit for.

Nevertheless, TDK's writer - Jonathan Nolan, did expressly hint in an interview that Batman's detective skills will be even more prominent this time around. So yeah, your question is pretty much answered already.

He should be working with Gordon and Dent (and hopefully Rachel, since I dislike the idea of her being pointless like Padme was in RotS). As a team they'll have a lot of detective work to do if they want to track down the Scarecrow, the Joker and sort out the mob.

YES IT WILL SHOW DETECTIVE SKILLS and you know what Bruce was a detective in BB to.

What a pointless thread.

I hope we'll see detective skills in THE DARK KNIGHT, though I don't think it's going to be a a "detective story," as it were.

We'll probably get more of the same from the first film. No real deduction or scientific detective work as in the comics or BTAS. Just a smattering of detective work. A small part of me ( as in the first film) is hoping Nolan makes a detective, crime drama Batman movie. But I ain't holding my breath.

Also, I've learned not to believe the people involved with these films, especially the writers. They will say anything to make their project sound good . Of course who would bad mouth their own project.

BB he was a great detective...what was he doing when he saved rachel, or got lit on fire?

I know because I'm not a dip****.

LOL!! I agree. It has already been said that he would show more of his detective skills.....more as in more of what they had in Batman Begins. In BB he did use some decent detective skills, why don't you people just come out and say it........that you want him to be looking at stuff under a microscope and things on that level. I think in order for him to get the Joker amidst all the gang wars he is going to have to rely on clues and as much detective work as possible.

Fox never did any detective work in Begins. He was like the lab tech on CSI that they bring the samples to test. Batman did do detective work. He took pictures of the judge and showed them to Rachel. He investigated the drug shipments in the Narrows. He listened in on conversations from a distance. Sounds like detective work to me.

I'm assuming there will be slightly more this time around since they don't have much exposition this time.

Quoted for Truth.

Really? I mean, he wore some disquises and listened in on people. Just about anyone could do that.

We should seriously put this as a sticky so people can stop asking--seriously, isn't this, like, the 10th or 12th time?

What are you implying? Aside from his schooling and being incredibly intelligent, anyone could basically drop what their doing and become a detective period. It mainly requires you to keep your eyes and ears open and look for connections between things. Not exactly rocket science. Yeah, some might not be as good as others but it mainly requires the person paying strict attention to details. A lot of Detectives had to work up to that from being a beat cop, they most likely didn't have major college education. I understand you want him to do a lot more then just listening in on people, so do I. I just don't get it when people dismiss that he did any so called "real" detective work.
