Okay, as far as I know there hasn't been any "word" if whether or not The Hulk will be given the power of speech in the upcoming film. I'm curious to hear opinions from the people on these boards if they should give us a speaking Hulk (*as in the comics*) or simply a growling Hulk (*ala the Lou Ferigno series*). And if you prefer a vocal Hulk, would you rather the articulated nasty kind (*Mr. Fixit*) or the childlike "Hulk Smash" version?? Personally, I would choose a verbal Hulk, savage or nasty. As I've mentioned before, I believe this would give much more dimension and interest to the character. Again, what's your choice?
:bh:

The question is, was making him able to speak even in the comics a good idea? He sounds like an idiot. I want the Hulk to be a green angry character you feel respect for. Not a bozo you'll end up laughing at. Ferrigno never talked of course, but then again, he looked like an idiot.

Hey, I even thought "puny human" sounded stupid.

Hulk should talk. But it should be kept short and sweet. Lee's Hulk had like 2 words spoken in it. I would like to see more than Lee's version. But again, it must be brief.

Yes. Hulk will talk in this film. Not too much to sound stupid but enough to please everyone and to give the character depth.

He should, but I dont think he will say anything other the "HULK SMASH!"

Hulk should talk. This should not be an issue. The Hulk has spoke through 40 years of comics, there is only one stupid medium where he was depicted as being mute, and that was that damn TV show. At least Ang Lee did it right and have the Hulk talk at least a couple times. All that grunting, growling, and roaring gets boring after a while.

Once again, have you read much Hulk comics recently, like, oh, THE LAST 20 YEARS?

The "Hulk Smash Puny Human" type Hulk speak hasn't been used much (if at all) in that long. And usually when a writer uses that type of Hulk, it usually sucks because he's trying to appeal to a Hulk fanbase thats a loud minority. Most Hulk fans prefer the Gravage Hulk or more eloquent Hulk speak that is currently being used (off and on) for the last couple years.

Jesus, the ignorance here is rampant, if you dont have anymore than a passing knowledge of the character, dont you think you should know what you are talking about before coming here saying something STUPID?

Yea i have.Oh 20 years,now i get you.
I thought you meant like the very old ones.
The ones that have a scent when you open the book.

Yes.I have.I may be really young to have one of those. But i have read them, and yea i do have some.
Iam sorry but i don't like the way he talks in the comics from 1987.
And no i don't have any hulk comic books from now.

+1

I have no idea where all this "mute Hulk" stuff came from. Even Tarzan got to speak in his movies (just like the books)...yeah he doesn't sound like a college professor...and yeah that's ok. The audience can take it.

Gollem didn't get his speech taken away because "the audience won't buy it". But somehow the Hulk is way different than any other talking character in history.

The Hulk should speak. Otherwise, what would be the point in making the sequel? You need to keep advancing the character: his physical look has already changed from a giant toddler to a scarred, earthy beast, so why not his personality?

ahhhhh i lo that smell! it brings back memories from my childhood. my wife tells me off cause i smell any old comic i buy and open! yes hulk should talk. period. hulk smash needs to be said. and if he has a meeting with betty in this movie, i hope he at least says her name.

We should know he is not just a mentally clouded Bruce Banner but his own separate personality. Hulk should talk enough to let us know that he is the strongest one there is, that he hates puny Banner, and that he smashes things. :thing:

Ding ding ding ding !!! We have a winner :bh:

Yeah, the Hulk needs to experess himself with words a few times but he shouldn't talk as much as the other main characters like Banner.

I was reading the newest issue of Wizard Magazine. One of the staff was interviewing the director. Although an interesting interview, I read on to see if he'd ask about the Hulk being verbal or not in the film. It was never asked. Bummer.
