AW was a character created back in the late 60's that started out as a side story in Fantastic Four where this group creates an artificial person calle "him", who realizes he is created to destroy earth, and he turns on his creators and kills them. He later shows up in Thor, and finally in his own comic series, that was a Christ allegory, that he is sent to earth to save these werewolf type people. He had his own set of disciples, who call him Adam. The series sold poorly and was canceled so the story was finished up in the Hulk series, where Adam is crucified on an Ank by the werewolf people and he returns to his coccoon form, and is resurrected and ascends in to space/heaven.
The reason people bring him up here, is he was a central character in Infinity Gauntlet/Infinity Wars, in mounting a war against Thanos who had collected all of the gems. Adam had the soul stone implanted in his forehead.
In the comics Vision had a solar gem but it was not one of the infinity stones, so that change would seem to indicate they are using his role for Adam Warlock in the films.
