Maybe give him more dialog? I'm so tired of the brute non-talking Hulk. He needs to be able to interact with the rest of the Avengers. Or could we see a progression where Banner experimented on himself & was able to get control of Hulks mind. Maybe even transform at will. There are tons of places they could take the Hulk like they have in the Comic Books.

It would be nice.

I think they are just scared of audiences not taking the Hulk seriously if they did that.

I agree. They've already established that the Hulk is this mass of rage empowered by his anger. Banner represents the humility and thought. There would be something awkward about a civil, well-spoken Hulk when considering all of this. I know people are ok with him speaking in the comics, I just don't think it translates well on screen.

i was hoping they would just do the cg hulk with a good vo, like golem was. make the hulk talk already, i hope we get more hulk and less banner in avengers.

Yeah, he's pretty much gonna have to speak at least a little. If you recall the very end of TIH, Banner seems to have changed intentionally. Maybe he gained the ability to "not control it so much as aim it."

I like the way hulk was portrayed on the planet hulk movie, where he didn't speak often, but he spoke when he needed too, and he spoke fluently, and what he said mattered.

There was talk that if TIH had a sequel, they would use the grey Hulk, hence Norton smiling at the end of the movie. Maybe that's who we will see in the Avengers. But I'm still hoping he's as strong as savage Hulk. I'd love to see a Hulk/Thor battle on screen.

Nah, I don't want gray for avengers. It may confuse the GA anyway.

Good point. We've had two movies of a practically mute Hulk that didn't connect with audiences. Hulk should speak a little at least. He should show some kind personality. That was a great contribution TIH made by implying Banner can focus Hulk's power to a certain degree. If he can't he would be useless to the Avengers.

I hope he's going to talk. Not like a normal person but at least like interact with the other in a pseudo realistic manner. Just have him talk and think like a four years old. Or the indians from the old western movies "Hulk mad, Hulk wants to be left alone, Hulk wants to pee".

I don't mind if Hulk speaks more...but I'd be disappointed if he didn't refer to himself in the third person once or twice.

That's the way I've always seen him...as a 4 year old with unlimited power. You can't hate a character like that. He just doesn't know any better.

We can't say it wouldn't work onscreen because no one has ever bothered to try.

Didn't they used to say that about Lord of the Rings and Spider-Man? "It won't work". You just gotta get the right person to do it like everything else. Maybe Whedon is the guy.

Exactly.
The wonderful dynamic was always that the physically weak Banner was one of the smartest men on the planet that changes into the strongest being on the planet but loses the power that Bruce always relied on--his high intellect.
This dichotomy...this duality in their nature...is one of the foundations that made Hulk so great.
Let's not lose the one shot of showcasing that in the first-ever Avengers movie!

And let's shut-down this nonsense about him being grey, ok? You think the general public lashed out against Ang Lee's Hulk? Just turn him grey and see how people reject it.

The Hulk must talk and converse, all-be-it on a very basic and primal level. It's essential.
Also he must think of himself and Banner as two distinct individuals. Banner wants to stop Hulk.........Banner is weak...........Hulk hates Banner. Banner is The Hulk's (or any other super-hroes) ultimate arch enemy.
He must be green, and somewhat bestial/neanderthal in his appearance.
Banner should have no conscious control over his affliction, however methods can be devised to calm Banner, tranqs, etc., limitting the chance of transformation, but those methods also limit Banner.
A cool moment would be the realization that the Avengers desperately need The Hulk's power, and Banner willingly surrenders to The Hulk. It's been done before, but it's cool none the less.

I want it to be in third person speak.

I also want a scene where the villain talks about how powerful & strong he is. Then Hulk replies by yelling " HORN MAN THINK HE STRONG!? HULK IS THE STRONGEST THERE IS!!!" & then he starts going apes*** on the villain. (I was using Loki as an example for the villain)

It would be nice.

The Abomination talked & everyone bought into it.

Yeah, they really didnt let hulk talk enough for us to know how intelligent he was.

Yes, but we also know he was on a mixture of serums. He still knew he was Blonsky.

Hulk doesn't carry over any of Banner's personality .... only thing he shares in common and can remember, is his desire to protect Betty.

All I know is, I hope to God we don't see them attempt to showcase him having full dialogue with people. It would be utterly ridiculous IMO. He's a massive green rage, that was the point established in TIH. Keep his "talking" minimal.

The split personality scene of Norman Osbourne looking in the mirror was a good depiction of inner turmoil that we need... Not those particular personalities, or literal scene of him talking to himself, but some evidence that that struggle is taking place. It was under-played in TIH.

Ugh...I hate that stupid TV show for what it did to the Hulk character. Now we've got people that can believe any character is capable of speaking...except the Hulk of course.

For some reason, he and he alone has to remain the most under-developed title character in the history of the universe (slight exaggeration?).

i would like it better is he could talk and had some intelligence. he has to have some smarts, he always finds a way out of situations. so that means he has some sort of reasoning and problem solving ability. im tired of having to wait for banner to get angry. more hulk less banner for avengers.

I don't think the third-person speak would be as effective in a movie, but I wouldn't mind hearing it, really. IMO Hulk dialogue would work better if he is more brutish than ******ed, like in the very early comics.

Don't blame the TV show for what he said: He said the Hulk shouldn't be having "full dialogue" with people and speaking should be minimal.
This is exactly how it's been for the majority of the 48 years that the Hulk has been around. Keep in mind, the Hulk was around more than 15 years before the show ever aired.

The Hulk has never had as much dialogue as Spidey or Reed Richards or Cap, etc. The only character I can think of that's had less is Blackbolt!
