The Avengers Will they finally give the Hulk a personality in Avengers?

I hope Hulk talks a tad more; especially about his hatred for puny Banner.

WELCOME TO HULK POETRY READING!

HULK CALL THIS POEM: RAINDROPS!

*clears throat* HULK SMASH RAINDROPS!

I noticed in TIH he said "leave ME alone" in the factory and said "Hulk Smash!" at the end, so it was kinda inconsistent as far as third person or first person. I say just let him speak in first person when he does talk. He doesn't even have a name technically(except Banner) until something in his subconscious kicks in that people refer to him as a Hulk. Though a cool scene would be someone on the team refer to him as Banner, causing him to just freak out on them.

Don't forget he also said 'Betty' at the end. IMO Hulk needs to talk more, it would help get through how much hulk hates banner and vice versa, help us get to know the monster, his rage doesn't have to just be portrayed through his actions but his words aswell.

What about a grey Hulk. Would that be the way to go in the movie? Aleast it end the problem of him not being a team player.

The Hulk must talk and converse, all-be-it on a very basic and primal level. It's essential.
Also he must think of himself and Banner as two distinct individuals. Banner wants to stop Hulk.........Banner is weak...........Hulk hates Banner. Banner is The Hulk's (or any other super-hroes) ultimate arch enemy.
He must be green, and somewhat bestial/neanderthal in his appearance.
Banner should have no conscious control over his affliction, however methods can be devised to calm Banner, tranqs, etc., limitting the chance of transformation, but those methods also limit Banner.
A cool moment would be the realization that the Avengers desperately need The Hulk's power, and Banner willingly surrenders to The Hulk. It's been done before, but it's cool none the less.

I agree about Hulk viewing Banner as another person. In Incredible Hulk I hated the part where Hulk was mad at the storm and Betty called him "Bruce" and it calmed him down. At this point for the character to work, he has to view himself differently than Bruce. Hulk is like a walking MPD, he hates his "other him".

Hulk represents power and he should hate Banner because he lose his powers when he turn back and Banner is a danger to "them", in a way.

The problem is there is no feasible reason given or explained why he's called or referred to as Hulk or why he calls himself Hulk.

It's actually in a deleted scene where Jim Wilson coins the term.

the srtuggle inside them of wanting control over the minds stucked in the same body should be a bigger term i think. having the hulk talk a bit more should help.

I think he should talk like this. I don't think it's ridiculous and I think it would work on screen. Especially if some of the other Avengers mention his unusual speech so we know that they think it's as unusual as the general audience does. Sort of a little lamp shade hanging.

But you know what? Screw that. They don't need to hang a lamp shade. I don't even think it's goofy. Avoiding him speaking because it's "goofy" is like avoiding his green-ness because it's "goofy." Everyone knows he's a normal, skinny white guy. Everyone knows that that guy turns into a big, green monster when he gets too mad. And everyone knows that he talks like a child. It's part of his accepted character. It's a given.

I think that some of the people that say they are against him talking in the Avengers movie may not understand exactly how he talks in the comics. It's mostly just referring to himself in the 3rd person and avoiding big words. That's it. He doesn't talk like an absolute idiot. Hell, I'd even say that "Hulk smash" isn't as appropriate as it's original form..."Hulk WILL smash."

For anyone who wants to see some absolutely, completely, unbelievably bad understanding of Hulk-speak just pick up any issue of the current Hulked Out Heroes story arc. You'll see sentence structure such as "Spider-Hulk am no liking what Thor-Hulk say!" and "Spider-Hulk no want fight."

"Spider-Hulk no want fight?" Wtf is that? Who wrote that? You know what Hulk would have said (in the hands of a good writer)? He would have said "Hulk doesn't want to fight." That's it. Take a normal, proper sentence; make it so he refers to himself in the 3rd person; and that's it.

I also think he needs to think of Banner as another person. Maybe not out-right HATE Banner the way he usually (but not always) does in the comics. But at least view Banner as a separate entity that is weaker and "puny."

Word.

Well said, Hoblin.

I think he should talk like this.

I love that animation!
But the Hulk is way too big in that.
But everything else about it kicks butt. I love how the Hulk saves the puppy--that's classic Savage Hulk right there.
And I would love to see the Hulk have that kind of role in Avengers: When everyone was being overwhelmed, the Hulk comes in and has the muscle to turn the tide.

I agree the Hulks way to big. It takes away from his ability to interact. If you notice hes almost on his knee in order to be close to eye level with IM. I think this was done to match up with Ang Lees size.

Look at his pants. Its a joke. Marvel needs to set a smaller standard & make everyone follow it. This Hulk looks about Ang Lee's 15ft version. This Hulk is even bigger than Giant-man some times.
