The Dark Knight Rises Will this movie break the trilogy curse?

I have a feeling this film is going to be Nolan's Batman Returns or Superman Returns....he's making the movie he wants to make using a million dollar franchise, not really limiting himself to the historical comic book constraints and designs of the characters he's using. I could be wrong. I think the film will still be overall good, not Batman Forever or Green Lantern...but not as epic a film as everyone thinks it will be.

I have this strange feeling this movie is going to seriously disappoint. I'm wondering if Nolan is becoming too confident in this franchise. Catwoman looks nothing like a cat, short Bane, retread of Ra and League of Shadows, I dunno.

Or it could disappoint without arrogance even being a factor. No filmmaker is perfect. At some point Nolan will have a dud. Might be this one.

i disagree. TDK was Nolan's movie that he wanted to make with a lot of control.

he didnt want to make TDKR IMO. TDK made money and WB wants him to direct. he makes Inception and WB gives him money and control. it makes money. its hes dream movie. Nolan needs to make TDKR to have a good relationship with WB. he is not forced. but IMO it was not his wish.

does this mean it will be a bad movie? it means that Nolan is smart working with WB . :woot:

Insomnia is a good movie, but definitely a disappointment compared to Following and Memento IMHO.

It did not live up to Memento but not a disappoinment. There is a first time for everything, but if Nolan messes up, it would be the first.

I wouldn't say it was a disappointment compared to those movies, though.

Insomnia wasn't even a script written by Chris or his brother. The Nolan brothers are full of win and while the directing style and acting of Insomnia was spot on, the script needed some work and I only wish Chris decided to write the final draft.

Nolan has confirmed that he did write the final draft of it.

I am kinda speechless to be honest....I always took the film as having bad moments because it wasn't a full-on Christopher Nolan film.

I don't think it will fall into the spiderman 3 area only because it doesn't seem like WB is forcing him like the did with Sam. Who knows the way fanboys are acting about photos not the actual movie that could play a part in it not being a hit. I think it's going to be a great ending to his trilogy.

Chris, Chris, Nolan, Nolan, Chris, Chris, Nolan Nolan.

The movie will be the best of 2012, and there is no doubt in my mind about it.

A good movie, no doubt, but it has a lot of competition. Spider-Man, especially. He's just as popular as Batman, if not more. Andrew Garfield is a great actor, and cares about Spider-Man more than any other actor for any other superhero film I've ever seen.

And Avengers is getting lots of buzz, too. During Cap's ending when Nick Fury showed up, I bet a lot of people put two and two together, especially because of his distinctive look (Sam Jackson with an eyepatch isn't exactly easy to forget). Not to mention every goddamn review mentions it.

I'm sure all those films will be great, but to assume any one of them will be the best at this point is absolutely impossible.

Wait....what?

It....it doesn't seem like it was Nolan-esque.

I honestly don't know how people can think this. The dynamic between Pacino and Williams is similar to Joker and Batman, and Pacino's storyline of protecting his reputation as a good cop so the bad guys he put away don't go free, is pretty much Harvey's. Not too mention the quick intercuts are similar to those used in Memento.

From what we've seen so far with Bane and now Catwoman...no.

I'm going to say no. This movie is hyped beyond belief that either it wont be judged fairly or people will defend it no matter what. But with the hype surrounding Nolan I think this will be the opportunity for a lot of people to tear him down from the ridiculous pedestal people have placed him on. I can also see the reaction to the movie being "thats it". Then for years to come people will talk of how he was the worst director and retroactively go back to say how bad BB and TDK were. lol. thats the cycle.

I think it'll deliver the goods. Whether it's better than TDK is up in the air. But I cannot see it being a typical third movie total stinker.

Not that I want this to happen but I fear that this might be the unfortunate outcome and reaction from batfans and general viewers alike
