I followed the viral marketing for TDK all the way from beginning to end, and it was an absolute blast. It always gave us stuff to talk about on the boards too.

I'm not sure how big of a success WB considered it to be, but I know the fans loved it.

It seems possible that WB might use this technique for their superhero movies from now on. I hope they hire 42 entertainment for this. Even if the marketing isn't as extensive, it would be really fun.

They didn't do it for Watchmen and I doubt they'll do it for Green Lantern.

They are already using it now. Why do you think they are leaking out info on a weekly basis for? Of course, the viral effect.

well i am sure they will probably do a few viral stuff, along with other stuff.

I think OP means what are the chances of an ARG used as marketing for this movie.

I think it would be cool, and could introduce some of the minor characters and build backgrounds to people who don't really know much about them.

The use of an alternative reality game (or ARG) is just one facet of viral maketing. The whole consept of viral maketing is to increase brand awareness via the use of existing social networks. The networks then spread information to others in a viral affect. That is going on right now with the bits of news that they have been leaking out each week. In addition, they have created their own social networis via Facebook and Twitter. The ARG that TDK's marketing arm used fit well for them since Batman is first and foremost a detective and the use of clues and leveraging his villians' prominence to create a faux grass roots campaign was a good fit for them. Green Lantern is a bit different and the technique that will be applied will more than likely different as well.

well look whats going on for tron maybe they can do something like that.

It could still work due to the fact that Hal is a test fighter pilot for secret missions. My only downside would be that since the character has yet to be introduced really into the mainstream on a greater scale (batman had batman begins).

I personally would love an Arg though that has nothing to do with Hal, but the guardians and GL corp instead. Where at the end you become a GL. Think about it a group meeting downtown somewhere..and starts off with everyone quoting the oath. Just epic.

I just really wonder what the cost of the batman arg was, and how much do you think contributed to the success of the film. I think thats one of the deciding factors. Super heroes due to there rich history and extensive background information I think its possible for any Super hero movie to have an Arg.

They did some online marketing for Watchmen. I remember playing some game on their website. It just wasn't as extensive as TDK.

I think they'll do some marketing for Green Lantern, though I doubt they would invest as much as The Dark Knight.

I hope not. It was kinda fun to follow it for TDK and now Inception, but I'm just getting tired of it being copied by every other studio. Some set reports, a press release, spy pics and an official still of RR in full GL gear would be enough to tide me over until the teaser trailer comes out.

yea that would be for me too. But if they did come up with something fun it wouldnt be a bad idea.

I think they'll definitely do some viral marketing to an extenet. Great way to get the word out and promote the film.

totally there will probably be some sort of stuff done. it would be a good thing to do to get the character more known out there. Plus what ever folks are sponsering the movie like mcdonalds/burger king, soda companies, etc.....

Absolutely yes... me and my friend were talking about GL promotion and I am definitely expecting to see some major kid's meal promotion going on. I also was joking with her that I can a see a "Lantern Corps" Mountain Dew (seeing that it's green), but besides it being a joke, I can actually see it happening, lol. Also, another thing that we joked about was candy.... but once again, I can actually see this happening..... a GREEN LANTERN RING POP sucker. TOTALLY SEE IT COMING! Lol. :hal::applaud

totally there could be some cool stuff with soda stuff, candies, fast food, then the whole video games, merch and all that stuff.

I hope this is not some auto program that comes in and pastes randome advertising everywere.

The possibilities are endless for a viral with Green Lantern. I want a ring!
