Windows 7

oh ok, sorry about that

yea it can only install on 1 computer

has anyone had any problems setting up their routers to Windows 7? i was going to buy one today but wanted to make sure i get one that is compatible.

by my tracking info it looks like my copy might come thursday, which works out cuz i'm off that day and i can work on the install

my router was working A okay after the installation

ComicChick,

As you know, since I messed with the Beta and RC, your router will be down right fine, IMO. It has better wireless controls all the way. =) Can do everything from the taskbar, which is fantastic! Should have been this way on Vista too, well, lot more cleaner anyways.

In the end what matter is the Wireless (Card) Drivers, and not the router. I have a 6 to 7 year router (Oh, how I love Linksys WRTG Series on on DD WRT). But as I've said, if your driver isn't out yet you can use Vista's, but might have a few hiccups but it will work if comes down to that.

Does anyone know anything about the student discount windows 7? Is it the same thing as the Home version?

not sure, i did however use a student discount on my new Dell Desktop

got my copy of Windows 7 in the mail about an hour ago so Im' working on transfering what i want to keep onto my laptop and i'm going to do the install over vista and completely remove it.

its taking you this long? when did you say you placed your order?

i missed this earlier. the weather here is terrible, a nor'easter coming through thats the worst in 10 yrs and all that. plus mail didn't run yesterday and if it had, i know it wouldve been here per the tracking info.

weather is just terrible i didn't expect any mail at all today. floods, power outages, school's already cancelled tomorrow, etc

ComicChick,

Let us know how it goes, but I think your doing it the best way possible. Total wipe, since you don't have anything go wrong from a upgrade proccess. That's how I always do it, even if it stinks. It's better to be safe than sorry, IMO.

Finally got 7 running. I used the disc that came in the mail with my purchase instead of using the downloaded files. Took awhile but it was making progress unlike my last attempts.

well after the storm, and regaining power. i had power, but no cable, phone, internet, til a few hours ago, so i decided to use the time to switch over to Windows 7.

So far so good. It boots up in under 2 minutes it seems like, and everything seems to be running smooth. I like the new version of paint, but I may just stick with my good ol' photoshop.

also, i like the new version of windows media player. i never used it much in the past but i like it so far. i doubt ill be using the gadgets, and i'm working on slowly adding everything back.

of course, first thing i did was reupload AVG (got 9.0 instead of 8.5 now) and now i'm going to be looking to redownload microsoft outlook.

^^^ good that everything went fine

i had to reinstall Windows movie maker, i like the new WMM but i think ill stick with my new PowerDirector

did you do a custom install kane? (aka erases everything)

i wrote down the essential programs i want to redownload, so i'm slowly getting around to that.

as for the gadgets, does anyone use them? what do you think of them?

nah, just the express install or whatever its called

all my programs and films are fine after the installation

is there a way to reobtain outlook?
