You know, it would be interesting if everyone here would take a second and post what their individual perfect idea of a werewolf is....
Like what you think is the best looking werewolf/wolfman you've seen or if you have a better idea etc..
Anything else you'd want to share would be cool too...

I personally believe they nailed the perfect Wolf Man look in this new movie. That to me IS the perfect werewolf. I DO like other werewolf looks, but this is my fave.
I always liked Marvel's Werewolf By Night werewolf look as well.
The werewolf in Bad Moon looked pretty damn cool too, much like the werewolf at the end of Underworld Evolution. Those weren't too bad.

When i think of werewolf I think of either this one (which is the perfect mix of man and wolf) or the one in Van Helsing (sue me, the design is cool) American Werewolf in London, though a great film, the werewolf looked like a tasmanian devil or a bear in the beginning.

Werewolf means half man and wolf and that's what it should be. The lanky werewolves in Dog Soldiers were scary as hell.

Must respectfully disagree there.

Neither Coppola's Dracula nor Branagh's Frankenstein were the genre-redefining masterpieces they were sold as, but Frankenstein is definitely the weaker of the two.

Have to agree here that neither of those two films were masterpieces but they were pretty good and enjoyable.

That's a tough one to answer. I'm a bit of a werewolf ****e and enjoy equally both bipedal and quadruped versions. I do admit that I'm glad they kept the appearance in this remake more humanoid looking to keep in line with the original, especially when it's called The Wolf Man. Although, when it comes down to it I prefer my werewolves more animalistic and feral.

Yeah, the one in Bad Moon I thought had a pretty good look. I do agree with you that having Dog Sodiers in that #1 spot on that poll was BS even though I really like that film. So far my Werewolf collection on DVD consists of 16 films so far. I can be picky since they have made a lot of ****** werewolf films.

These are the ones I own.
The Wolf Man: Legacy Collection(also contains Werewolf of London, Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man and She-Wolf of London), Silver Bullet, The Howling, The Howling II(not sure about this one, hadn't seen it since I was really young and saw it on DVD for really cheap and just snagged it even though I'm not big on sequels for these types of films. I need to get around to watching it to see if it was worth it or just get rid of it), The Company of Wolves, Wolf, An American Werewolf in London, Bad Moon, Underworld 1,2 & 3, Dog Soldiers and Werewolf Hunter. Werewolf Hunter I need to watch a second time to get a better opinion on it. I randomly bought it off of Amazon because it seemed to have gotten enough positive reviews.

See, interpretations vary. Some feel it should be a human with wolf-like characteristics. Others feel it should literally be an anthropormorphic wolf, capable of being bipedal as well as a quadraped when it wants to get feral.

Yeah, the Van Helsing werewolf "design" was great, but in many parts the cgi was just painfully bad. Scooby Doo bad.
You know, the entire concept of Van Helsing as a young monster hunter was a brilliant idea and could have become an amazing series of films had it been properly executed. The script was just horrible-horrible-horrible. Stephen Sommers is a truly talented "visual" director but he really has proven very poorly as a storyteller. Regardless of how bad it is, I still have a soft spot for the Van Helsing movie and I actually watch it often. I love the Hyde intro. Matter of fact, if you haven't seen the animated movie called "Van Helsing: The London Assignment", you should pick it up. They did a great job with it.
It's a blast.

Sorry, man, I just could not get into the Dog Soldiers werewolves. They look like over-sized Mexican hairless dogs to me.

I agree, the more wolf like werewolves are definitely scarier. I would be more afraid of them if they existed than the "wolf man" kind.

But there is just something about the Wolf Man look that just seems more interesting to me. One reason is that it feels more like a human trapped within that beastly form than the wolf like werewolf. You relate to that more humanistic beast because the human element is more present.

But, I think the real reason I like the wolf man more is because you love the one you first see, and for me that would be the Lon Chaney Jr. Wolf Man.
My first Wolf Man experience was his, and that will always stay with me.

Jeez, I am watching the new trailer right now....and I just can't get over how great it is to have this.

I've always been a fan of the torn shirt, pants wearing wolfmen.
Some of my favorites:

Yeah the "Curse of the Werewolf" is an awesome wolf man look, the only thing that bugged me about him was he wore boots the entire time.
But the NEW Wolf Man looks slightly influenced by it.

The Monster Squad werewolf was also very cool looking. That's a great pic by the way!

I think the best look is in The Wolf Man. It's the same vein as the original, but with better effects, obviously.

cryptic name, what movie is your third picture from? I like the look of that one too.

Schlosser85, that's the werewolf from "Monster Squad".

Some good choices, I love Oliver Reed in Curse of the Werewolf. I just rented that a few weeks ago.

We've been seeing the more Howling/ Wrightson style Lycanthropes for so long, it's stunning seeing the more man-ish Wolf.

Agreed. The Hyde part is awesome. And hell, I really dig the black and white opening. The dialogue is poor and the acting is hokey, but it's a fun ride that I'll watch. And that first teaser trailer was ****ing awesome.

And yea, I've seen the London Assignment. It's better than the film and very well done.

To me this new design by baker which contains both human and wholf is the best. I always thought that the Wolf Man design by Jack Pierce in the originals was the coolest and what got me into classic Universeal horror. But the techniques are dated,k especially in the original 1941 classic which used far more noticable rubber prosthetics than the sequels (it looked best in Frankenstein meets the Wolf Man). But Baker updated the look and made it more what we would expecoday but kept the basic overall look and broad design. I love it. Even if the movie sucks, it has the best looking werewolf ever.

So for me:

1. Wolf Man remake
2. Wolf Man in original films
3. Underworld werewolves: say what you want about the movies but those were some awesome bipedal werwolves, especially the ones in the sequels of the "older generation"
and
4. An Americann Werewolf in London: If you are going to go on all fours, I can't think of a more terrifying design. None of this Twilight were-puppy crap.

my view.

The werewolf seen in the New Moon trailer is by far the worst thing I've ever seen in my life, and it also has the worst transformation.

And because that movie will make a small fortune, they don't really give a ****.

And because that movie will make a small fortune, they don't really give a ****.

I don't really give a **** either. Not like I'm actually going to watch it. If I even sat down to watch 5 minutes of it, I sense there would be some sort of weird peeing/pooping/vomiting reaction from my body.

Yea the werewolf in New Moon looks like a big, cartoony, really badly computer animated wolf.

I'm not the biggest American Werewolf in London fan, to be honest, but its werewolf is terrifying, even if the design isn't my ideal. That scene in the subway scares the crap out of me.

It's great to see the good ol' fashioned style Wolf Man make a come back, especially on such a grand feature film scale. It seems like everyone involved with this new production were all on the same page and made an honest effort to create the best werewolf movie they could. (BTW: Does anyone know the REAL story as to why the original director, Mark Romanek left the production?)

Anyway, I honestly can't see how it's possible for this movie to be bad, unless the CGI in other scenes or in the climax becomes as bad as American Werewolf in Paris. That was some of the worst werewolf sfx I have ever seen. But I just don't see how that's possible.

For me, this trailer alone has proven that we are in for a real gem of a horror film.

DaCrowe, I agree, the Lon Chaney Jr. Wolf Man looked his best in Frankenstein meets the Wolf Man. They showed a lot of him and the fight was just freakin' beautiful!

It's weird, because the first one never showed him change into the Wolf Man, they just showed his feet change. And as mentioned in the dvd commentary, it never even shows the MOON!! Crazy, huh?

He also looked pretty cool in Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein.

Rick Baker is an exceptional talent. His work on the 2001 Planet of the Apes was just outstanding, but because the movie was a flop, he didn't get the acknowledgment he so richly deserved. That is a real freaking shame. The ape make-up was stunning.

I like the Underworld movies. I don't understand why they get so criticized. I think they are very well made, and the stories have been pretty solid. The sfx impressive and the action is comic book in every way. Which is what I think they were going for.
I've enjoyed all of them and look forward to more.

Caught the trailer tonight with Basterds..

Looks absolutely beautiful on the big-screen and I could tell that the audience was into it.

I just found this on the Los Angeles Times...http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/her...10-are-things-getting-hairy-for-the-film.html

'The Wolf Man' pushed to 2010 -- are things getting hairy for the film?
July 28, 2009 | 6:57 pm

The Wolf Man One of the conspicuous absences at Comic-Con International this year was "The Wolf Man," the Universal monster film that hits theaters on Nov. 6...or does it? The film starring Benicio Del Toro, Emily Blunt and Anthony Hopkins just got postponed to Feb. 12, 2010.

Some reports suggest that Universal wants a bit of space between its supernatural thriller and "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," which opens on Nov. 20 with its own brand of snarling werewolves. That sounds like fuzzy logic to me: If the R-rated "Wolf Man" had two weeks on its own at theaters to win over moviegoers, why worry about a vampire film that is aimed at much younger film fans?

This a film that is going to have to claw its way to credibility from its first day of release. The director is Joe Johnston ("Jurassic Park III," "Jumanji") but he came into the project after celebrated music-video auteur Mark Romanek walked away, saying the planned $100-million budget wasn't big enough to pull off his vision. Maybe Romanek should have stuck around; because of reshoots earlier this year the final budget for the Johnston version will be north of $112 million, according to Claudia Eller over at Company Town, our sister blog. Those reshoots were done, reportedly, because filmmakers wanted scenes with a fiercer, four-legged version of the creature.

Who outside of the project is watching all this with a bit of apprehension? Well, I'm guessing that Kevin Feige at Marvel Studios isn't exactly baying at the moon while watching the balky performance of the film. Fiege and his team have tapped Johnston to direct the period-piece heroics of "First Avenger: Captain America," which looked like a great choice considering the vintage verve that the filmmaker brought to "The Rocketeer" back in 1991. It may still be a great selection, of course, but right now Johnston's "The Wolf Man" isn't looking like a rabid success.

Oooh baby...check out this article (BEWARE SPOILERS): http://screenrant.com/wolfman-reshoots-means-new-creature-design-ross-16718/

Geez, this sounds really good to me! Oh my God...
to see the Wolf Man battle a Werewolf on the big screen will be such a freaking trip! I am telling you guys, if the FX work in the whole movie is on the level of the trailer, this could very well be the greatest werewolf movie of all time.

My top 5 favorite Wolfmen/Werewolves:

1) The Wolfman (1941)
2) Curse Of The Werewolf (1961)
3) The Howling
4) An American Werewolf In London
5) Werewolf (tv series)

I loved the werewolf from Monster Squad. Easily in my top 3.

Monster Squad, my man. With Dracula, Wolf Man, Mummy, and Gillman make up done by none other than Stan Winston himself.
