Why did this movie have to have so many problems? I've been looking so forward to it since I saw the trailer! :cmad:

it's one of those things where we will find out in a few years. Just like how Burton's Superman imploded and now we know the full details.

It's either two things: The studio didn't understand the movie because it was too old fashion (read: too smart for its own good) or the studio thought it was crap.

I'm going with option 1, studio didn't understand the movie.

Knowing that I could very well be wrong in my guess, I chose that one because I have a hard time believing the movie/script was essentially crap, even in the studio's eyes. Solely based on the fact that I don't see Benicio Del Toro signing up for a remake of a film he is a huge fan of.

Wouldn't be the fist time an actor signs up for a film based on something they say they love or have an interest in that turned out to be crap. I just have a feeling the studio doesn't know their head from their ass in this case.

There is no mystery as to what went wrong with this production, Mark left becuase his vision was against that of every other person working on the film (to quote Baker he just "didn't get it"), having to replace a director that late in pre-production was a problem, no 'visionary' director would come on board becuase it was too late for them to make any significant changes to make it their own film.

Joe Johnston was hired, they made the movie, Produces felt the werewolf scenes were too tame and wanted to pump them up a bit, as well as change the third act to match Walker's pre-Johnston script (werewolf vs. werewolf) thus there were six weeks of re-shoots.

Because of this delay Elfman was no longer able to score the film, he had other things he had to do. So new people were brought in.

The film is now being re-edited by two of the most talented people in the business indicated that despite the troubled production Universal has faith that the film has the potential to be great (if not they wouldn't be continually pouring money into it and going out of their way to re-edit the whole thing despite generally positive screening reviews)

This is not a case of the studio not understanding the movie - unless wanting a fiercer werewolf and bigger climax counts as not understanding the film... which I guess is possible but from the amount of money and talent they continue to pour into this production I just don't think its a case of studio heads "not getting it".. I mean the producers sided with Baker on the were-wolf design and went back to the Walker scripts climax rather than going with the one rewritten by whoever Joe J brought in.

OF course they then made the decision on a fully CG transformation but based on the footage I've seen of it (trailer) it looks great so doesn't bother me at all. I can see why it upset Baker though.

I reckon I'm better off not knowing all the crew problems and nonsense... I'd probably be thinking about that while watching the movie.

I hope this isn't as bad as the problems make it seem.

This is one, if not, the most logical and sensible post I think I have ever read in the superherohype forums.
Thanks, Abraham, for saying exactly what needed to be said.
I believe you nailed the actual behind the scenes story to a T.

I, for one, am thrilled to see this movie. It looks perfect.
I have been waiting for the ultimate wolf man movie since I was a kid, and I believe this is it.
This is going to be the greatest werewolf movie of all time.

Come Feb 2010, I'll be seeing this in theaters multiple times.

it just shows you that a good vision, good script or a good actors are not enough for a good movie. its what happen in between.

it shows how a studio can spend a lot of time to make the wrong choices.

I have to agree with Abraham on this. Everything he said is logical to the point of problems this film has had. It's like Burton and Planet of the Apes....wait, bad example. Nevermind. It's going to be hit or miss. Either they figured everything was suitible to go at this point or they are just hoping what they could do with it works.

In the end, we shouldn't be looking at it as "what if" and look at this "as is". Some will like it, some will not, and there are definatly going to be people who will complain to the mountains about their issues with the film. I'm looking forward to this film, but I don't have any expectations about it at this point. And that's a good thing.

I believe it shows that Universal truly cares about this movie, believes in its potential success, and are taking every measure to ensure that it is.
Top-notch actors like Del Toro, Hopkins, Weaving etc wouldn't have signed on if the script was weak.
The re-shoots have been confirmed as a problem with the final action scenes.
They wanted to bring up the action and give it a more thrilling climax.
There's nothing wrong with that.
If they are taking time to perfect this movie, excellent, that is great news.
It's clear that they are not just filming crap and putting it out there as is.
They are working hard to deliver a high caliber film.
And I, for one, am thrilled to see it.

I hope your right about it being the best, and the trailer is very promising!

Wolf Man Legacy DVD Art Revised

It appears the light of the full moon has affected something other than Larry Talbot. Universal redesigned the DVD package art for their upcoming Wolf Man Legacy disc. After a slight delay, the studio is dropping the film on shelves February 2. Just in time for the new Wolfman.

Good. Using an image from "Abbott & Costello Meets Frankenstein" was just a silly idea.

Gotta say, from that angle, he looks like he could go toe to toe with one of the Underworld werewolves...

That is one scary werewolf - scarier than I thought he'd be.

That poster is the s**t but I still expect the movie to suck or atleast be a mess.

Heres hoping I'm wrong.

I'm on the same page.

Honestly, if it's better than Cursed and Wolf, and isn't some incoherent mess, i'll be happy with it.

I didn't like Wolf. Cursed was made ok in my eyes by Christina Ricci (me likes her :woot:)

Wolf was pretty bad. Nicholson looked bored as hell and some parts were just odd. I mean Nicholson running around in his regular clothes with werewolf make up looked a bit ridiculous.
