Johnston seems to be the best director to come out of the special effects business. He should have directed the third Mummy film. I mean he directed October Sky for God sakes. Very far from his resume of special effects. It's amazing it's the same guy. More amazing he was part of doing the visual effects for SW in '77.

to change topics a bit, has anyone heard any inklings of whether or not the zoo sequence in the script is still in the movie?
the scene where the wolfman fights and kills the crocodile sounded awesome in the script

I agree. "Curse" did the same thing for me as well. It inched ever closer to the definitive Werewolf movie. That movie was wonderfully epic and that climax was so classic Hammer film. Just great stuff. It has it's flaws but it is a wonderful movie. Benicio Del Toro reminds me so much like a perfect mix of Oliver Reed and Lon Chaney Jr. and so does Rick Baker's Wolfman design. I wonder if Baker based a little of it off of Curse.
Man, I can't wait to see the making of featurettes when this one comes to dvd/blu-ray.

Yeah, he has an impressive body of work. He's been around for a very very long time and is a hugely underrated talent. I like how in the Wolfman featurettes he seems dead serious about the job. Almost every time you see him on the set he is very focused and in the moment. Plus, he's got a mug like a 50's bruiser or mob henchman. Lol! I really like this guy!

I'll try to find it, but out of all the interviews I've read(and I've read a lot), they're starting to blur.
 
CrimsonMist, are you sure it has the actual script for the film in the book? I don't see that mentioned?
25 bucks is pretty expensive for a 138 page book. I think I'll wait for the price to go down a bit before jumping on this.

Are you getting it right away?

Positive. I have the other two books in the series, "James Whales' Dracula's Daughter" and "Cagliostro"(which eventually became the original Mummy). It's a continuation of another series of script books that Philip J. Riley had with a publishing company called MagicImage that reprinted the scripts to the original Universal Horror films.

The only downside is that Philip J. Riley is known for fabricating a lot of information, so everything outside of the scripts should be taken with a grain of salt (apparently, he isn't well liked by just about every horror historian ever). But he dishes out these scripts, and that's pretty cool.

Im not buying it right away though. The Bear Manor Media site said the book was coming out in January, and usually they're quick to post the amazon.com links to buy the books, but not with this title. I assumed they stopped selling them on Amazon and were only taking orders through Paypal, which I don't use. So that money I was holding for this book? Spent it on something else. It'll wait.

That's unfortunate about Riley being a mistrusted source. As long as he isn't altering or touching the scripts in any way, then I guess, for the most part, all is good. I wonder how he got a hold of them?
Who knows what other wonderful horror classics might rest on the dusty cobwebbed shelves in the shadows of the Universal Studios script archives...????

Anyway, that cover is pretty cool. Even if it is a mix of the classic posters...LOL!

I've read that the script for this is supposed to be pretty fun. So i really need to get it. It's just a matter of money.

He isn't altering the scripts or anything. Just some of the information in regards to production backgrounds can't be trusted as true.

I know he got the Dracula's Daughter script from David J. Skal, who wrote the extremely(x 1,000,000) wonderful book "Hollywood Gothic: The Tangled Web of Dracula from Novel to Stage to Screen". Riley has connections though. He was pals with Forrest J. Ackerman as well as some others.

First time I saw the second trailer I wasn't crazy about it but it quickly grew on me and now I like it.
However, I don't want to hear anything like it in the film.

You won't. Danny Elfman is doing the score, and it's going to sound similar to Bram Stoker's Dracula score.

Lots of heavy violins and cellos. Which is good.

Yeah, I caught it too. From what I understand the cost for a 30 second tv spot during the Superbowl is in the high millions.
I think it's safe to say Universal has great faith in this movie.

I believe it cost 3 million for a thirty secont tv spot.

Which has me worried that they have too much faith in this film. It's opening up against Valentines Day(reviews seem to be horrible, but it's still Vday weekend so I expect it to be pretty popular) and you'll also have Dear John still playing. I'm hoping I'm wrong, I just don't see The Wolfman making a ton...

Are you saying Wolf Man has "horrible" reviews? The only reviews I've read so far, are old ones from last year when there was a screening with incomplete sfx and yet to be re-shot scenes. I haven't read any new reviews yet.
