Wolverine to host the oscars!

my little cousin had a fun idea for a promotional skit for jackman during the oscars. they call him down to the stage to start the show, but he's actually running down the aisles with claws. kinna like in trailer with him running through the cages. and as he's running towards the stage, he is dragging his claws outward, slicing and killing the famous actors in the seats to the left and right of him as he goes past each aisle.

then he gets on stage and to the mic and says "its ok mates! its only a skit for me new movie wolverine origins." then the famous actors who got sliced up, get up and show everyone "see its all a gag." jackman says "see fake blood!" then the oscars director with his headphones on, says "wait. he wasnt supposed to slice up tom hanks!"

then the camera cuts to hanks.. who doesnt seem to be doing so well. the camera cuts to jackman who looks around guiltily and bolts off the stage yelling "g'day mates!" and reciting lines from the trailer as he runs

that would be funny they should do that and showed it on the day of Superbowl

He ended his opening number saying that he's Wolverine! It was hilarious! He got a standing ovation.

He was also on the Barbara Walters special and they mentioned XMen and Wolverine.

So, how do you think Hugh's performance as host and song and dance man will impact on Wolverine?

Will the movie going public be able to get behind Wolverine now they know that he sings and dances?

the end credits they showed movies to look out for in 2009. nothing about origins. maybe bc its owned by fox

It was brilliant !
I was expecting some claws to pop out of the wrestling props though.

I think Hugh hosting the show will bring more people to see Wolverine.

No not unless every single member of the movie going public is a homophobic ****nut.:woot:

Judging by some of the posts by the women on another board I read, Wolverine is going to have more fans when May rolls around. :cwink:

He was great last night. Everyone where I work was raving about it this morning, especially "The Reader" dance (I now have the song stuck in my head).

I wish they'd let him play around with the audience a little more, he's so good at that. But Hugh was a lot of fun, I hope he gets the chance to do the show again.

An email acquaintance of mine who I haven't heard from in a bit sent me a note that she watched the show and raved about him! And a closer friend of mine watched because she knows I like Hugh (but I had to reminder her it was on) - and she is not the movie-going/celebrity-loving type, and she couldn't stop talking about him and how fabulous he was.

The other board I read had an Academy Awards thread going, and finally they just started a second thread just for Jackman-swooning. I predict a sudden uprise in DVD sales when Australia is released next week. :cwink:

So narrows, are you as desperate as I am in wanting him to get back to Broadway RIGHT NOW after watching that last night??? :oldrazz:

Actually what I want him to do right now is to announce what the heck he's doing after Wolverine comes out on May 1!!! Truthfully I want another movie first to be released next year before he goes back to Broadway - rumored for next year. Meanwhile, here's this:

Hugh Jackman Addresses Comic Book Movie Controversy During The Oscars
February 23, 2009 · By Scott Johnson ·

As the star of the upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie, Hugh Jackman wasted no time in letting comic book fans know where he stood on the great Academy Awards comic book movie controversy. In Jackman’s opening number for the Academy Awards, he made several references to comic book movies.

After leaping aboard a batcycle, Hugh Jackman sang “How come comic book movies never get nominated? How can a billion dollars be unsophisticated? Everyone went to see The Dark Knight. What am I doing you think is not right? Is it my cape or my bullet-proof tights? Maybe, if I aged backwards.”

Hugh Jackman’s words highlighted a number of questions that have plagued comic book fans. The most obvious question being how a movie that was as successful at the box office as The Dark Knight was not considered one of the best movies of the year by the Academy. Is the idea of a man dressing up as a bat and fighting crime any more absurd than a man aging backwards?

Later on in the opening number, Jackman sang “The Reader, I haven’t seen The Reader. I was going to see it later, but I fell behind. My batmobile took longer than I thought to design. The Reader, I know I need to see The Reader. I even went down to the theater, but there was a line of all the people watching Iron Man a second time.”

When news first broke that the Academy members had snubbed The Dark Knight for Best Picture, many comic book fans expressed outrage that The Reader made the list. Jackman’s words made light of the fact that very few people have seen The Reader, and he once again highlighted the fact that comic book movies were overlooked by making reference to both The Dark Knight and Iron Man.

Finally, Jackman concluded his opening number by singing “These are the Oscars, and this is my dream. I am a slumdog. I am a wrestler. I’ll rent The Reader. I’m Wolverine.” Again, Jackman re-established that The Reader was not a popular movie, referring to it as a movie that he’ll rent later. Jackman also re-connected once again with comic book fans by ending with “I’m Wolverine

While Jackman’s opening number was done tongue-in-cheek, it also sent a very real message about the Academy’s disconnect with the movie-going public. Instead of nominating The Dark Knight which made a billion dollars or Iron Man which people waited in line to see twice, the Academy nominated a movie called The Reader, which most people will wait until it comes out on DVD to watch.

I'd love to see at least one more film before his Broadway return too...I wonder what he's up to?? After Wolverine, I haven't heard a thing.

I read he was passing around cookies in the audience during the commercial breaks last night. :woot:

I saw 2 commercials for Australia on DVD tonight. Can't wait to see that again.

I think he got quite a few plugs in for Wolverine - first his TDK skit at the beginning about "how can movies making a billion dollars not be nominated" and at the end when he was parodying "The Wrestler" and sang:

“I am Hugh Jackman, and I’ve waited so long, and no recession can stop my confession or silence my song,” he sung.
