Wolverine VS. Sentinel clip

I don't see how this clip could possibly be an unfinished scene. They're using it to promote. Why would you promote with an unfinished product. It makes no sense.

The more I watch that scene, the crappier it looks. I didn't notice the music at first. Terrible! What's up with Wolverine's voice when he says "they're not ready Storm". Sounds really cheesy. The action also plays out pretty campy. *sigh*. but then we predicted this with Ratner, Kinberg and Penn making this film. At least it wasn't Tim Story.

Well, the clip left me a bit underwhelmed--but there are certainly some positives to go "glee" over:

Positives:
*Storm's line "Logan, we work as a Team"--Flawelessly delivered by the actress. Halle actually had the "leader vibe" drawn all over her facial expressions there.

*Sentinel Head--Looks like it was lifted from the comic book pages themselves. I'm not sure what some of you were expecting for this to look like--they are fitting an obviously fantastical element into Singer's "Realistic universe". It fits fine because it's an illusion.

*Logan's coy lines--"Panties in a bunch", "Tin Man", etc. these are all classic lines of the character as found in the comics. Wolverine is totally nonplussed in this scene and Hugh captures that indifference perfectly. Logan is supposed to be nonchalant people. Again, I'm surprised by some's reaction to this considering this is a CBM to begin with.

Negatives:

* No Full Body Sentinel Shot--I understand that they've only shown the head to act as a "cookie" for comic book readers, but showing the entire body in its glory would really impress the enormity of what the X-Men are facing upon viewers. The way the clip edits that comes across chintzy.

* Editing--It's bad. Period. And it's clear that key lines have been cut that probably make the whole scene flow together better. This clip's sole purpose was to make Hugh Jackman look good--and that's it.

*Music--Contrary to other's opinions, I think this score we're hearing is perm, not temp music. In of itself it probably works well in context but again, the way the clip is edited makes the theme seem anticlimatic and empty.

*Storm's line "Logan, don't do this!"--Terrible voiceover work there. Just wack and unnecessary.

Your avatars always make me smile. ->:)

Well what can I say that you and a hundred others haven't already said so well, except this. I wish I had some bread to go with this clip's ham and cheese. After the mandatory initial Geekasm, reality set in and what was left didn't look so hot. Please god let the film be ten times more serious in tone than this was.

I'm sticking with the assumption that this was a heavily/badly edited, unfinished FX scene with temp music and I hope we're gonna see more of the Sentinel than we saw in the clip!! I hope we get confirmation from Kinberg/Penn soon! I don't know why they thought of using this clip on Leno though, maybe they thought the flaws of the scene wouldn't be as obvious to casual viewers and they wanted to tease with the Sentinel head.

Great post!!! I agree!!!

oh good, now we have something NEW for everyone to complain about

Before we go complaining about Colossus again, go hop over to the Colossus thread.

We've been through all of this multiple times...

Who said that was his finished look?

How can we be so sure it's not finished though Worthy? I'm genuinely concerned more than pissed off!

It looks pretty finished. BUT...it was possible it was edited up for Leno so it would be just a quick glimpse clip.

"pretty finished" yeah but it still looks like final touch ups need to be made to Colossus, it looks like they've done most of the work but they just need to put the finishing touches to him adding shadowing detail/darker tints.

Why would they show a completed version of one of the, arguably, most awaited scenes of the movie...1 month before the movie debuts?

Possibly. I am just saying don't expect any radical changes. But it does look like there is more to that scene than they showed.

There was some camp in that clip, but it takes place in the Danger Room, so things are a bit more light-hearted, etc. That clip really gave off the sense of adventure, so I loved it.

The only thing I hate, is Logan appearing from behind the Sentinel head, cause it was obvious he wasn't hiding on back...the head even turned a bit to confirm that :p

Storm/Halle was great, but she kept saying Logan too many times to the point that it got annoying, lol.

All in all 8/10 The editing/ effects/ and score were probably not finalized, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that things will be more polished come May 26th!

True. Conversely, why would they show a poor unfinished version to advertise a movie (a version that may otherwise make people not want to see the movie because it looks bad to them--If a movie looks poor, why would you pay to see it?)

Why not simply air another clip?

Personally, I think it's unfinished, as a lot of pre-release clips are. I'm just playing devil's advocate.

It is not finished...look at the quality compared to everything else. It is dumb to think that is finished.

I can't believe people are rating a 58 second unfinished clip like it's the whole movie.

Sometimes I get depressed that I hang around internet message boards

Then I remember light bad

light very very bad

Maybe though, to the casual viewer that clip would look cool and exciting, we're just overanalysing and we have high expectations.

Storm said a whole lot more in that clip that what we've been led to believe methinks. It's so clear to me that she and Logan had more dialogue but it was chopped out. She only said "Logan!" 3 times because the clip was shown to focus on Hugh Jackman's greatness.

Trust me, if Halle was sponsoring the clip, Hugh's dialogue would have been downplayed to highlight hers. ;)

They also change things in tv clips to make things seem different...remember Mystique in X2 clip sliding forward? They are working down to the wire on this movie and needed something new to show on Leno so they probably just threw it together. Plus I believe the DR sequence was one of the last things they shot.

Haha. True. True. It's all relative--I just feel like debating.

ok i don't ahve time to read 56 pages and although yea i kinda didn't like the way colossus looked that much either i want to know why everyone else keeps saying they should of kept it like in x-2 it think they are the same someone explain to me the difference? and i will argue against it :D
