BvS Wonder Woman's Role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - Part 1

The problem with an invisible jet would be one of “internal consistency.” I.e., if Themiscyra is depicted as romantically idyllic and pre-technological (with, say, toga-clad maidens using stone tools to grind wheat into flour), then the presence of a futuristic stealth aircraft would raise questions. No doubt, some fanciful exposition could answer such questions. But is the narrative benefit worth the trouble? Originally, the jet was a practical conceit: it allowed WW to get from A to B in a convenient time. But if the current story doesn’t require long-distance travel (or if the logistics are somehow a non-issue - WW, apparently, uses Turkish Airlines :word:) then there’s no real need for a personal jet of any kind.
The invisible plane should double as the League's Javelin 7. It shouldn't just be a plane, it should be able to travel through space if need be.

Since we have little context, I personally would like to think that it's possible that the Amazon's were technologically (and obviously magically) advanced to keep up with and fight with 'Man's world'.

When they got tired of the fighting, they dumped the 'evil' technology (a science loved be Man's world) and magically sealed themselves off.

Diana, once she decides to return to the normal world, dusts off an old plane, sprinkles some fairy dust on it and bam, invisible plane.

And yes, it could be upgraded from a pretty straightforward transport vehicle from pre-Greek times to a Javelin for the JL. Or at worst used as a blueprint.

Granted, I’m not the biggest WW fan. But when I think in terms of her classic imagery, I see feats of superhuman strength, amazing fighting skills, bracelets deflecting bullets, prowess with her famous lasso, etc. Conversely, WW at the controls of an invisible jet isn’t, for me, must-“see” iconography. And the narrative effort it would take to explain how and why magical/pre-technological Amazons possess a high-tech invisible aircraft isn’t, imo, worth the marginal payoff in “fan service.” Also - as a sfx, “cloaking” is fairly commonplace now (e.g. Star Trek, Avengers, Legends of Tomorrow); it doesn’t amaze audiences like it used to.

And if WW needs to get into space (not sure why she would) can’t Batman provide a lift? He’s the one with all the toys. :word:

I can somewhat understand your preference/opinion, it'd be a little challenging to explain and write. Do it well though and I think it'd add value; I personally love the idea of delving into a very abnormal society.

Regarding the 'amazement' factor - that wouldn't even be my goal with having it there, it'd be an intelligent covert method of getting a non-flying character to far-off places. You mention Batman, I'm sure he'd love one.

In addition, the fact cloaking has been done in other film is irrelevant; it has not been done in the MOS-universe.

I'm not all cards in on the idea, I just like like it enough to talk about it ;)

I don't agree with much of this post

also WW and JL go to space all the time

The fact of the matter is that WWs plane is simply iconic, people know few things about WW, they don't even know her powers but they know about the lasso, the bracelets and the plane

The invisible plane being on Themyscira requires maybe a 3-5 second explanation

The invisible plane was confirmed when we found out WW couldn't fly, so get used to it. It's going to be awesome, I don't know why anyone would be against it..

Because it goes against the idyllic society that is untainted by modern technology to have cutting edge stealth jet. I wouldn't mind it if they introduce it as something Diana obtains down the line in Men's world, but I definitely don't want it to be of Amazonian origin, just standing there in Themyscira... there is an interesting possibility to depict a society that had its own hermetic course of advancement and in many ways remained tied to civilizations of ancient times (that despite being a cradle of today's world, we deviated from in many ways) and opting to go for boring and cliche "swords and sandals meets SF" direction would be rather disappointing.

Also, I don't find invisible jet to be nearly as iconic or important as Wonder Woman's lasso or bracelets... with all WW solo comics, Justice League ones and tie-ins I read, I don't even remember if I ever stumbled upon it in the comics.

But are we certain that's the route being taken with the Amazons? Morrison's Earth One take, for example, deviates away from that.

The Superfriends iteration is surprisingly impactful on pop culture. Whenever she's brought up, the plane usually follows. Just look at Kimmell's interview of Pine last week.

Didn't get to read it yet, I take it that Themyscira is technologically advanced there? Still Earth One comics are not canon, not that it necessarily means they wouldn't use it, but New 52 Zeus' daughter origin seems to indicate that it will follow iteration of Themyscira where it is in many ways a society of old like it is there. Also, with all the groundedness they've been talking about regarding this universe, I'd expect them to go for Themyscira as a place that is from technological standpoint stuck in time. Or rather, has taken its own course of advancement, where there's just no need for aerospace engineering.

If anything they should shy away from anything Superfriends related, Aquaman fish jokes included, but I get your point.

Why are we assuming that the invisible jet is Amazonian in origin?

Not gonna lie...the idea of Wonder Woman in air combat...that's pretty cool.

^I don't get why people keep thinking that either. It could be a top secret aircraft she finds while undercover in a military hanger. One of the coolest parts of the Lynda Carter series was the spy thriller aspects so I hope we do see some of that as well.

I was just discussing why it shouldn't be.

Yeah strangely I have zero interest in "seeing" an invisible jet in this or any other movie. I know it's part of her iconography but I always found it to be incongruous with the classical/Hellenistic elements of her mythos.

I think I might be the opposite. The mixture of the two has always been really fascinating for me. I envision Paradise Island as a Sci-Fi setting with a Greek aesthetic.

Morrison's Earth One Amazons are going to have hover bikes that look like floating clam shells, which ties into Aphrodite being their patron. Or rocket boots that look like Hermes's winged sandals. Plus I've always hated DC seeming to be adamant about retconning out all of the Amazons various achievements while Atlantis and Gorilla City are allowed to keep their technology. It's not realistic for an isolated society to be that advanced, but screw realism. Bring on the Invisible Jet and show that these Amazons haven't just been twiddling their thumbs for 5000 years.

I always thought the jet was stupid.

That doesn't mean I think they shouldn't try to adapt it.

Maybe just make the Themysciran ship not look and function like a real life jet as not to have it stylistically conflict. Like maybe have it look like a giant mechanical eagle like the Trojan Horse or something.

Well, Morrison's take on it will look like a vagina (according to him at least), so I guess you're gonna get your wish.

Her line delivery seems to be fine. And after that WW solo "teaser" that has shown her nonverbal performance, I don't think I have any worries left regarding Gadot.

Loved Gal's dialogue in the trailer.

I don't care what Randolph has to say, I'm not listening to that voice ever again.

By the way, Wondy's superjumps:
