Does it bother YOU that a $204M blockbuster film *about* Superman is apparently less popular with mass audiences than a popcorn film based on a Disney theme park ride, or a hackneyed comedy about working for a hard-nosed fashionista?

I'll give you Pirates obviously, but the other one hasn't even made $100m yet. Don't mention budgets, we're talking totals here, which in the end, means POPULARITY, correct?

Does it bother YOU that the only film the TV show actor headlined made back its production budget at the domestic B.O. in NINE days, while a film directed by Bryan-X-Men-Singer can't seem to do the same without divine intervention?

Selma Blair was the only name in the film with Tom Welling being moderately known. This so-called "hit" of yours made a lousy $29.5m domestically at the box office, hardly something to go off bragging about. It was out of theatres in 6 weeks and was critically panned with an impressive 6% over at RT. We all know SR's budget was out of hand, and it didn't need to be that high, especially when viewing the final product. If it was anywhere near a "normal" high profile film budget, we wouldn't be talking about profitability problems, which it won't have in the end anyway after it's all said and done.

Does it bother YOU that the actor who was chosen to headline the film can't act his way out of a phone booth, never less do a shirt rip in one?

Well, this is obviously your opinion, but IMO, this actor has more presence than TW could ever have. The shirt rip thing was Singer's fault, not the actor's fault.

Does it bother YOU that at least four names in the "no" list above (Hal Jordan 8472, Hollywoodland, Silver Lad and Vandal Savage) are the same person?

No, it doesn't bother me since we're sitting here on a SV board - of course it will lean one way. Again, no, SV belongs where it is, in it's nice little spot on TV with it's small audience.

regardless of SR's bloated budget, the fact that we're debating whether or not a Superman movie will be able to limp it's way to $200 million domestic sometime around Labor Day Weekend if it's lucky, is in and of itself embarassing.

TK, youre awesome. I have no problem with discussing the movie reasonably and intellectually.

What i do dislike, is the fact that some individuals posts are ALWAYS about the superiority of their SR compared to the inferiority of SV because "thats just how it is" or something to that effect.

i myself moderately enjoyed SR, and have said as much. Obviously i am also a fan of SV. BUt let me return to my french fry debate. If i like McDs fries, you are not going to convince me that BK's are better simply because You like BK's more. Moreover, it is inconsequential to me whetehr or not i think one brand of fries has a better taste based on McDs or BKs profit margin in producing them for consumption.

Well I cant speak for Kaboom, but you are in no way obnoxious about it, in fact you rarely do talk about it.

I think it just gets extremely frustrating that when you're in a Smallville Forum you have to have posters bringing down Smallville in order to up SR.

I completely understand there. I remember back in the day when the RotS fanboys tried to convince me that I liked Episode III. I like talking about movies, but at the end of the day, this movie was too emotionally polarizing to have rational discussion on either side. That and RotS was easily the worst movie of 2005.

Conversely, I really don't enjoy the threads over at BlueTights where posters start bashing SV, or just making a derrogatory passing comment about it. It really riles me up, but I don't want to have to fight the entire board over an opinion that won't change.

Sometimes, I just don't get it. How can they watch the pilot and say that this is a bad show? The pilot is an amazing piece of television--some of the best I've ever seen. And trust me, I've seen a lot of television in my 21 years on this planet.

I understand Milkman's points, but I dont really want to get into a long drawn out debate over how one film detracted from another's audience, or my thoughts on The Fog.

besides Hulk got it right:

With SR's budget and how it was being touted the movie should have done better. Why didnt it? When Spider-man opened in May of '02 it got $403 million that year, followed by Star Wars II which got $310. So what does this prove? Better movies win out, and As Hulk said if SR was better than it is/was we wouldnt be having a discussion.
